Interesting Twitter chatter

Agreed, apparently the outside 50,000ft view of Syracuse is that it's a top 5-10 coaching job. Which honestly I didn't think was the perception, I thought people viewed SU as JBs program and expected a big drop when he retired. I'll filed this as meaningless, slightly positive news from the day...because it's still Hopkins unless everyone is out.
seriously?

If we lose JB, we lose our political contacts and half our strength. The other Big East Families might wind up supporting Georgetown just to avoid a long -- destructive war. This is almost 2012... Nobody wants bloodshed anymore. If JB goes down, you make the deal, Nancy.

I have seen several college programs who play at a high level practice, the toughest practices I have seen were without question held by Geno Auriemma FWIW. Relentless, it was like mental warefare. Tough dude, wow.

I am not saying he should coach at Syracuse by any means. Those who think Jay Wright isn't an elite coach are 100% insane, IMO

May Jimmy coach us for 1,000 years.

If not put my eggs in the Jay Wright basket.

I wonder if Leo Rautins would be interested.

Doesn't matter JB isn't going anywhere.

Is everyone making the assumption that IF JB were let go the whole staff would go?

For the sake of argument, yea. I doubt JB will be let go, if somehow he is, I doubt the staff would be let go, but if the unthinkable happens then this is the thread for speculation. I would also imagine there may be some who would rather have Jay Wright or Billy Donovan over Mike Hopkins. Im indifferent to this, I like Hopkins and I think he will do great, but Jay Wright would definately be intriguing to say the least.

I think Stevens is a great coach. It is also possible he would mend his style a little, depending on the team/talent he had.

Sean Miller is also looking really good, but I doubt he leaves Arizona and the recruits he has.

Nova had the #3 class two years ago.

All the more reason not to hire him. What has he done with that talent?

I may be insane, but what has Jay done in your opinion to merit that status?

If not put my eggs in the Jay Wright basket.

Look at his last three seasons. Great guy. Good coach, but people might want to ask Nova fans how they're feeling about Jay these days. I live among them so I already know they are not happy.

If JB is fired they all go. GMac, Hop, Autrey...all of them.

You either clean house or you don't, there is no in-between!

That, my friend, is BS. You actually think that Syracuse is going to fire all the alumni coaches and bring in a bunch of guys with a Providence, Villanova, or Pitt pedigree?? You really think GMac gets fired in a total housecleaning?? The guy is a Syracuse icon, has never been remotely implicated in the abuse of Bobby Davis, and has only been an assistant coach for a week and a half.

It will be Hop, unless everyone goes, but everyone tossing out all these names just like they did when we were looking for a football coach have to keep in mind that SU pays about 1/3 of what the top coaches make.

SU has the biggest capacity stadium, has arguably the nicest hoop facilities and has to be one of the top revenue producing basketball schools. I think Syracuse (Gross) would pay top market value for a big name coach - far more than 1/3 of what top coaches makes.

A lot of people around here (not you) suffer from the Syracuse inferiority complex but Syracuse is viewed as an elite program nationally and certainly Gross would view Syracuse as an elite program. Going into the ACC if Donovan was his target I have no doubt he'd shell out a couple of million to land him.

You do have to keep in mind hes doing this with Villanova. Put a guy like him in Syracuse and he could do some serious damage with the resources he will have at his disposal.

Not buying. He has had excellent talent. His recent tournament performances make ours look good. So far this season? Losses to powerhouses St. Louis and Santa Clara. Maybe he should just stay away from "Saint" teams. You can have him.

Well I would rather he not recruit a bunch of 4/5 star mini point guards so that would have to change but I think he could adapt very well here. Let me say first that I highly doubt Boeheim is going anywhere and if he does its Hopkins job. This is purely hypothetical.

Of course. This is just a fun exercise and I hope JB is here another 10 years. Again, JW is a great guy, good recruiter, good coach. Just don't understand why people think he is great, elite, whatever. Seriously doubt he'd change the type of players he recruits or his style of play though.

I don't believe JB is going anywhere and I definitely don't believe Hop is, either.

But if they do, I'm still in the Scott Drew camp. In addition to being a good coach and recruiter, he has a history of saving a program following a scandal.

Re: "iron clad"

Contracts are made to be broken.

And circumstances change.

That doesn't mean that Hopkins won't be the next head coach, but if a clean break is made with this staff, then he won't be--no matter how "iron clad" the succession contract might be.

Not sure if they are "made to be broken" per se, but they certainly are broken all the time. Iron Clad probably just means that if Hop is not made the coach after JB he is paid a pretty penny. Financial disincentive to the university is not the same thing as Hopkins HAS to be coach.

Look at Penn St, they are all gone at seasons end. Almost all are alumni as well

IF JB is fired it would be the same situation here.
