Is anyone confident we can have a winning team under Red next year?

Melo isn’t dumb. He can see it. Would he push for a change? Who knows. If Kiyans development was #1 he wouldn’t be coming here
Recruits like Kiyan can get stuck behind a 6th year player somewhere else. Is he even ranked higher than Elijah Moore was?

Who could possibly be confident we will have a winning team next year? I mean if you're talking winning record, maybe. However, not an ncaa tournament team. Two things most concerning to me about Red: 1) He struck out on all PGs he went for in the portal when this was priority #1. He settled on Carlos. He continues to give a lot of minutes to Carlos. He got 19 last night!; 2) Many of our guys are playing worse as the season goes on.

The definition of insanity is doing the same things and hoping for different results. We've already seen sufficient evidence to indicate that Red doesn't have a quality offensive concept, that our defensive effort is horrendous, that this coaching staff overall doesn't seem to "teach" well given the lack of improvement, that they miss a lot of their key recruiting targets, and that their player evaluation on the recruiting trail seems poor.

It would be one thing if there were indicators that the coaching and offensive / defensive sets were good, but we just lacked the horses to beat the best teams. If that were the case, we'd be playing well, the players would be working hard, and we could reasonably project that as Red continues to build his team on the recruiting trail / via the portal, that putting better players into a quality system would eventually yield better results.

If that were the case, it would make sense to bring him back.

The problem is, none of that is what we're seeing. We are barely competitive with the worst programs in our conference, and get routinely blown out by the better opponents we play. To suggest that we have a lousy offensive system is putting it lightly, and we can't defend anybody. Some players have regressed, some never seem to show that they belong at the ACC level, and we don't have any elite prospects coming in.

Running it back is dumb under these circumstances. Better to fail fast and not let the program crater even further, to make the job that much more difficult for the next coach.

4 Year Plan...4 Year Plan

The fact that a poster mentioned that the Athletic Program/Bball program talk about a 4 year plan behind the scenes, in todays environment is insane to me.

Good coaches, the longer it goes, the better it looks. The opposite is happening, the longer it goes, the worse he/it looks. Its too bad because last year, the record did improve, and it looked better when you squinted real hard.

I’ve made my peace with Autry coming back next season. I know how SU operates.

And I’ve made enough trips around the sun to know that anything can happen. I’m sure there’s a multiverse out there where SU wins 25 games next season and nabs a #4 seed in the tourney.

But I’ve also watched many bad teams and bad coaches in my decades as a sports fan. They all have many commonalities. And it’s exceedingly rare for a phoenix to rise from those ashes. What I’ve seen from SU hoops the past season and a half looks a lot like the Mayo/MacPherson/Rust Patriots, the Joe Kerrigan/Bobby Valentine Red Sox, and the Pitino Celtics.

I’d like nothing more than Red and his supporters here to shove a gigantic crow down my throat next season. I just don’t see it. Sometimes we know.

the only thing I am confident about is that I won’t be watching much cuse basketball if he’s still the coach.
