Yes, honestly, dont want to hear about stars and recruiting. We played with them. Gamez like this come down to cosching. We had the better qb, oline, specials, and for the night, our dline was at least equal. This qas our ballgame if our staff played to win.

Okay I bit (and for a second I thought you might actually be Jim Ringo until I read that he passed in 2007):
1957 Cotton Bowl Classic
The 1957 Cotton Bowl Classic featured the TCU Horned Frogs and the Syracuse Orangemen, played on New Year's Day.
Background
Syracuse had just one loss (to Pittsburgh, who ended up losing in the Gator Bowl), but they were 8th ranked, led by Jim Brown, who would play his last game before becoming an NFL player. TCU had finished 2nd in the Southwest Conference, but was invited to play in the Cotton Bowl due to first place Texas A&M being under NCAA sanctions. [1] This was TCU's fifth Cotton Bowl appearance, having lost their previous four (and not winning since 1937). This was Syracuse's first appearance, along with their first bowl game since the 1953 Orange Bowl.
Game summary
TCU had two 14 point leads, both near the end of the halves. John Nikkel started the scoring for TCU with a touchdown catch from Chuck Curtis, and in the second quarter, Jim Shofner caught a touchdown to make it 14-0. But Jim Brown ran for two touchdowns in a span of 6:52 to tie the game at halftime. Late in the third quarter after Brown fumbled the ball back to TCU, Curtis scored on a touchdown run to give TCU the lead back. After another Brown fumble in the fourth quarter, Jim Swink ran in for a touchdown to give TCU a 28-14 lead with 11:44 to go. But Brown would not be stopped as Syracuse went 49 yards in 13 plays and scored on a Brown run. Brown went up for his third PAT attempt of the day to try and narrow the lead to 7.
But Chico Mendoza blocked the extra point, keeping the score 28-20. But Syracuse had one last drive in them, going 43 yards in 3 plays and with 1:17 left, Jim Ridlon caught a pass from Charles Zimmerman to narrow the lead to 28-27. Syracuse kicked it deep but TCU held on and did not let Syracuse get the ball back, in what would turn out to be TCU's last bowl win until 1998. Jim Brown and Norman Hamilton were named Outstanding Players of the game.
24 hours ago watching the game, started to think they might just pull this off. 25 hours ago doubts started to creep in, but still hope that it could happen. 26 hours ago, swearing at a penalty, and the realization sets in that it just isn’t going to happen. Hurts, but we almost pulled off an upset against the #3 team in the country in one of the most difficult venues in the country.
Excited that it there was hope during the game, gives hope overall. We need people to see the growth and potential in this team, in this program and start showing support by coming to games... we need the team to come out of the tunnel for the UNC game and see a full house.
Seriously, you would not want to beat the number 3 team in the country at their stadium? Can’t rise too high too fast. They would’ve been bound for a let down before ND if they won. They just aren’t there yet to maintain such a level of success. I’d rather be 10-2 with close losses to Clemson and ND than the same record with losses to ND and Pitt. This is the intermediate step in the rebuild.
Agree total.I can't remember a loss in any sport that left me feeling more positive than this one.
We hung in there with the #3 Team in the Nation in their stadium. We had chance to win. But in the second half they showed they were bigger, faster and stronger than then were were. They had Choice and Ettiene running the ball and we had Moe.
I'd like to say I don't understand the whining and finger pointing and the need to blame someone on here. But, I'm afraid I do. It's what some fans feel compelled to do.
Sorry but that’s a bad comparison. This felt like robbing the bank and then getting caught. The mindset wasn’t one where we honestly thought we could go toe-to-toe. Most of us were just hoping to cover. 92 and 98 games were incredibly hyped with national title implications. And both went to the last play. Once Clemson knew they could play smash mouth it felt like the outcome was inevitable.Yup. Miami 92, Tennessee 98 and this, damn.
We don’t necessarily have to be unbeaten going into October/November. A close loss to elite team early in the year is not a death knell.I'm 35, and I've been a hardcore fan of SU football since I was 10 in the 1992 season. I would meticulously cut out all the preview articles in the Herald Journal on the Friday before each game.
In that quarter century of fanhood, Syracuse has never finished the month of September in the national title picture. Even in seasons when we were very good (1992, 1996-1998, 2001, etc.) we blew it in September and were just playing for conference supremacy the rest of the year.
I just need to see an October and maybe a November where we're still undefeated for my life to be complete. It's on my bucket list. So many other programs have gotten to experience that feeling. This could have easily been that year if just another break or two goes our way, so to answer the OP, yes I am crushed.
Thats not the whole game. The O was waaaay too conservative in the second half. We didn't adjust with play calling, and it killed us. Given a 9 pt lead at half, their 3rd string true frosh qb coming in and the fact we had 3 big TOs in our favor; we didn't get it done and the biggest factor was playimg scared and protecting a 9 pt lead.
The offensive play calling was brutal. The rpos were slow and non aggressive as gius took the ball into the line. Threw one pass over 20 yards, nothing over the middle. Just not aggressive. DINO was taken to the woodshed in the second half and his offense, not the D was the problem here. Not the D.

could still happen this year if we win our next 3There are kids graduating high school this year that were not alive the last time we were ranked.
It really feels like that will never happen again.
