Is it safe?

JB benched him when Gbinije wouldn't shoot when he was open. JB said that he's a good shooter but if he won't shoot when open he might as well sit. Sounds like the coaches wanted him to be confident, shoot and contribute. It didn't sound like a staff that was trying to limit his playing time or contributions.
be confident or else you sit might not be the best approach

It is a means of separating the men from the boys. It is a strategy every good coach in American uses.

In competition, if you're more afraid to fail than succeed that's deadly. JB had more confidence in him than he did in himself and it has seemed to help with Gbinije, he has improved and became more aggressive towards the end of the season. I imagine JB's confidence came as a result of his practice performance.

On one level,

The Neighsayers have gotten better and more fair about their neighsaying.

Cannot agree with this. Below is a "neighsayer" post:

I can't wait either. Losing the tip and watching the opposing team from High Point Low point and god unknown schools from places between play before 25000 fans talking about how the team is ranked to be a final four team again and watching the defense allowing the other team to hold the ball for 30 seconds and then launch up threes that go in and then the SU guard takes ball up court and goes east west for 30 seconds all while Cooney breaks local Marathon records running in circles and then finally Grant gets ball to do his twirling whirling spin move into three defenders. Followed by JAB press where he states the other team was very good and we played good defense. And the board chimes in that the team has tired legs.

Do you think this post adds any value to the board whatsoever?

I know I have tried.

Agreed.

And this season in particular, there has been a lot to neighsay. There is no other way to look at it, but as a missed expectations kind of season. To ignore what actually happened this season is no bueno.

I respect your thoughts here but I disagree. Rather than being a disappointing season, I thought it was a great season with a disappointing ending.

What I don't understand from some of the "neighsayers", as you call them, is the anger that is so evident in their posts - as if the team and/or coaching staff did something to them personally. Jurrie's post above is a classic example.

I watch SU hoops for two reasons:

1. I've been a huge fan since I was 10.
2. It is something that my son and I do together.

I was extremely disappointed when we lost out on the MSG - primarily because my son asked me every day for a month whether I thought SU would still be going to the Garden for the Regionals because THAT would mean that the two of us would be going to our third Regionals in a row and he really enjoys going and I really enjoy taking him.

And, of course, I was extremely disappointed when we lost to Dayton because it meant the end of another season. And it also meant no second consecutive trip to the Final Four for my son and I.

But I wasn't angry and I didn't feel the need to start venting my anger at players and coaches - as I see posters do on this board.

That is the part that baffles me and is also the behavior for which I have zero tolerance.

Good stuff. Here are my comments

It could add value to two people. A) the person writing it, and B) a person reading it. For you, and probably a large percentage of others that post does not add value. Me personally, I do agree with some of the points the person is trying to make. The composition could be better, maybe stated in a more compelling well. That's hard work though, and sometimes you just want to get something off your chest. The points I agree with, I left above. The value I would derive from it is primarily two things. 1) here is one other person whom is disappointed with Grant's spin moves. They are often awful. 2) The statement about the JAB presser, because it happens. We often just parrot his excuses.

I cannot explain any one person's anger. All I can do is explain what upsets me. I take none of this as a personal attack by the players or coaches.

For me, it all really comes down to how they play, win or lose. I enjoy it when Syracuse does well. It's an "all is right with the world" feeling. I invest a lot to make sure I capture most every moment. I put aside things with my wife and kids so that I can watch a game. When they do not do well, when they could have done better, that investment feels wasted. It's relieving to come on here and find people that are seeing the same things you are, or occasionally convince you to think differently.

Some people refer to this team as 'fierce competitors'. As a team unit, I don't see it. Wichita State vs. Kentucky, that was some fierce competition. Two units doing everything in their power, at both ends of the court (not just one), to win the game. It is upsetting to see so many teams compete at such a higher level than your own. 'Fierce competitors' would have a much higher bball IQ on offense. They would work in the offseason to get it. They would not lose to BC and Tech, at home. They wasted a huge opportunity, but hey, that is up to them.

I watch Grant's spin moves to nowhere, and him getting out-strengthed and pushed to the ground, and think it's bad ball. I see Fair dribbling off his foot game after game and I get upset. Keita's reach ins and inability to catch the ball, and jeez, passing up a dunk attempt, it is excruciating. Rak not attacking the rim. Come on man. I don't see evidence that they are being taught differently. How do the mid majors do it? How do they get so much of their lineup to exceed their potential, and play with such intelligence?

At the end of the day, I remain perplexed as to what happened this season.

I didn't like his post because, looked at in the context of the post he was responding to, it was simply dripping with sarcasm and there was no constructive criticism intended.

Ok. We can agree to disagree on the team, season etc...And that is cool.

What you won't have to see anymore is me going after posters who go after players and/or coaches or make what I deem to be ridiculous statements.

I will simply push the snooze button on them and they will disappear.

Be well and good luck with lax.

The only context of the post I saw was the one you provided. I stopped reading every post about 5 years ago. I pretend we have thread view and jump to topics and posters that interest me. The post had sarcasm. Many posts do. We will agree to disagree about the season. And I am not going to beat a dead horse about how it went.

We got a miracle in Ennis. We made a major mistake pretending that Fair was Melo. We got great work ethic from Cooney, which fans should really appreciate, but not enough production. Grant needs upper body strength, and needs to realize that 2 and a foul is better than 0 and a missed dunk. We need a coach that can develop big men the right way. And just personal philosophy, we should do a better job developing people like Roberson with situational minutes. Not everyone can be an MCW, and go from 0 minutes to leading us to the F4 to NBA rookie of the year. Imagine if we had used him more his freshman year? As a board, yes, we should hit the snooze button more often.

Moderation of internet forums is always tricky. If too strict you end up stifling open discussion (or if too directional against certain posters/views you get an echo chamber where everyone agrees with each other). If too loose you end up with racism/threats/slander/etc. I think the board is moving too far toward the former.
