It's either keep the one thread or have the possibility of individual threads popping up every time something newsworthy happens there. Take your pick.
This...

That thread solved a problem... There were constantly multiple Rutgers threads on the 1st page. Now, that was for a reason, as Rutgers was constantly embarrassing themselves.

Although I agree that there's really not a great reason for Rutgers to be singled out specifically anymore, outside of their obvious ineptitude, that thread has become legend. The 210 or so pages are filled with Internet wins.

As the immortal Art LaFleur as Babe Ruth said in the Sandlot, "Heroes get remembered, but, Legends never die."

Look, we have to have at least one team to make fun of. And Rutgers just feels like the right team for the job. I know our past rivals have been PSU and current rival is BC, but Rutgers still holds a place in my heart as the whipping boy. Plus, their fans are so obnoxious it just makes sense.

Oh, and RutgersAl.

BC is our current rival???

Says who! The ACC by scheduling SU vs BC as the last game of the season!

I doubt many SU FB fans would agree.

Ok, then who? Pitt? Wake?

Using my criteria for a "rivalry", none of them are. We don't have one.

With SU vs Georgetown as a measuring stick our relationship with any of our football opponents doesn't come close.

It depends on what you think a rivalry is.

Fair enough. I would think BC is the closest we have - league made or not.

We don't have a football rival in the sense of traditional football rivalries. Even WVU and Penn State didn't count, because both of them had someone else they cared more about.

We have "micro"-rivals. Which are BC and Pitt. Just by location and # of matchups. But I can't recall either the SU or Pitt fanbase being particularly jazzed by that game (we never seem to be good at the same time which is a story for another thread). BC and SU did have their moments and each viewed the other as close to a rivalry as we could from about 1992 to 2004. But being back in the ACC has done little to get the buzz back. Both teams would have to get good again.

Could start something with Rutgers if we wanted to. Border states, both in big boy conferences, and both will stay there. But again, how much buzz will there be. Neither team is particularly good right now, and their battle to get good is much more uphill.

Half empty stadiums don't make for good rivalries.

NEVER!

Put the thread on ignore if it bothers you so much. :)

Can't you just click a button and just merge this with the other one? That would be funny.

Every time someone brings this up, you just tack it onto the end.

Not only is the thread legend here and on Scarlet Nation, many fans across the country read the thread for their own enjoyment. Rutgers complains so much about the thread, when other B1G and OOC opponents see the complaints, they read the thread and the joy is spread across this great football land. I have met a few people that have read the thread and had nothing to do with Rutgers.
