Is the proverbial shoe about to drop on college basketball royalty?

Do kids in Junior hockey get paid from their teams?
I always wondered if Junior hockey players in Canada got anything as I know its like SEC football in the South in Canada.

Junior Hockey is not nearly SEC big. Attendance wise you are probably looking at something like Single A or Double A baseball maybe? University Hockey may draw about 100 fans... University Football has a few schools that draw 5-8K a game and that would be tops.

CHL Attendance Report for 2016-17 Season

The players get paid a stipend, based on seniority, and the largest is less than $500/month. So basically the players are not paid. Should they make a tonne of money. No...but they should make some more. It's pretty criminal in my view, especially when you consider that you get drafted as a 16 year old, can be traded mid season... it's comical when they claim the league is "academic" and yet a player can get traded in the middle of a school year. Franchise values which used to be minimal may now be from $5M to 50M largely because if you have a decent fan base you don't have to pay the players. It's why they have expanded so much.

Reportedly, there are some bigger names from out of Canada, that some richer junior teams will entice them over. They are not supposed to, but it probably gets policed as hard as the NCAA does. Apparently London paid some serious cash to convince Patrick Kane to come to London in his draft year.

I meant passion wise.
You can’t get the crowds that SEC football in any sport except soccer or football.
I went to a Windsor game forget the nickname it was something funny but the crowd was insanely passionate.

I disagree with Jay Bilas so much on this... Paying college athletes would be terrible. If that were to happen then you could say goodbye to a lot of college teams... Wouldn't be able to compete with Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and UNC. Recruits just gonna go to who gives most... And its not like they don't get anything... They get a free a FREE college education. Kids pay thousands and thousands of dollars for that.

How’s about paying them out of an NCAA general fund, from say the profits. Every kid is paid the same amount no matter what school they attend.

Looking for Cuse in that list...not seeing it..

They asked Wendell if he received cash and he said no. Case closed.
They asked him twice and he strongly denied it. Very strongly. I mean how many times can they ask him?

Ugh to get sucked back in by dasher. You know they dropped the ball by not investigating the tip, I mean the FBI director admitted as much.

And they’ve mentioned the ‘resource’ issue several times.

Hey if u have a minute check out the RU r ivals fball board your mentioned prominently in the Ash thread created by RutgersAl

Isiah Whitehead got $37k while at Seton Hall. Plus his HS coach, who went with him to Seton Hall as assistant coach got a $9,500 loan. Unclear if Seton Hall is directly involved or just an agent who paid off Whitehead so he would represent him when he entered the draft. Either way, that situation just reeked of slime. Wow. No wonder JB got away from Whitehead. That confirms my faith in JB.

$37K.

I think P5 teams should be paying at least that ... within the rules.

Maybe it is the CPA in me but how are these benefits? According to the leak they are loans. A loan is not a benefit and every student can go out and get one. IRS man will want his cut but I don't see the extra benefit piece based on the information provided.

Now if they were bribes or gifts then that is something different. A lot of hubbub about nothing, yet.

Looking at the balance sheet ledger shown in the story the date is December 2015. Got to assume there is more recent documentation included in the investigation as well. And curious why the headings on that document are in Spanish?

The balance sheet is cut off at the O's but going through the report and the players names I count 42 schools associated with players mentioned on the documents. Some are relatively trivial but others have multiple players named.

Norfolk State is in big trouble. They’ll be looking at 20 years of sanctions from the NCAA.

I would just like to know, with the laws we have in place in this country, what they could have done. I wish they could have taken him to a hospital but they don't have the right to do that.
Let's take the Florida shooting discussion to the OT Forum and get back to arguing over how many blue bloods will need to be taken out for SU to get a 4 seed. :)

They have no material collateral

Ha...imagine if we played Duke tomorrow and they didn't play Bagley or Carter.

It would be treated as a Quadrant 4 win and a home game.

Should we take the conspiracy theories over there, too?
