I mean seriously. How can any other conference even begin to compete with what the BE tourney offers? I am going to miss that part of the BE for sure which is why if they win tomorrow my fat ass is bringing his family down Saturday to the Garden to watch this one last time. (I know we still have next year but)

I'm with you. Obviously. There's nothing like the BE tourney. Headed down tomorrow.

I'm sure it'll just keep getting better with matchups like USF - SMU etc.

I'll still be watching Gtown-UConn in a few years while others are glued to Wake Forest-Clemson.

Well...no, but when Pitt, WVU, and Cuse leave, it won't be the Big East tourney anymore.

You're comparing a semi-finals or finals matchup to a opening day matchup though.

If you ask SteveHolt, then yes.

If you actually watch the tourney, then no. It's not even close.

I was about to respond with "Ask Marsh" but then I realized you posed the question.

I'm sorry but i will miss big east basketball.. i'm in the minority but i hope UConn comes to the ACC i want to continue to play them regularly.. and the ACC then owns NYC for basketball and the tourney can be in MSG

In my opinion, the only thing comparable to the BET was the ACC tourney in Greensboro. But now that it rotates to random sites like Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, Wash DC... the BET is by far the gold standard of conference tourneys.

year in and year out I don't think its close. MSG has been so valuable in building the brand of the BET.

Going to miss it... And let me echo the sentiment that I really hope UConn ends up in the Big East

...any conference tournament that includes 'Cuse. Duke, NC and others wont hurt either. Hopefully we do the Garden every few years...

Actually I don't care for it since they expanded it to so many teams. I don't care for teams having a double bye at all. It is simply watered down now.

I bought tix yesterday and was in MSG for the game today. Great atmosphere. The building was rocking with UConn and SU fans. Had some great banter with fans from GTown, UConn, Marquette (yes there are some Marquette fans there surprised me too). Will really miss going to MSG in March...it lends such a big-time atmosphere to the event. And the depth of competition and number of good teams is so much broader than other conferences that have 2-3 good teams.

Some years the ACC tourney can generate the excitement of the Big East.
But year in and year out...nothing like it.

The BE is signing a long term deal with MSG to host the tourney.
The ACC will not be there...because of the conflict and because it's culturally unacceptable.
People who don't know what I mean by "culturally unacceptable" will find out in a year or two.
We'll be outsiders in our own conference - always.

Enjoy the BE Tourney while we have it...before Cantor's Debacle takes effect.

Don't take my word for it:

“It’s the best tournament in the country,” said Orange guard Scoop Jardine, a senior from Philadelphia. “Of course I’m going to say that because I play for Syracuse, but I really believe that. It’s New York City. It’s Madison Square Garden. It’s the Mecca of basketball. It’s a great atmosphere."

44cuse

"Cantors debacle"

I could care less if we're outsiders. I will relish being the Yankees who take over all their gyms up and down the coast as we unseat Duke and Carolina from the throne.

I can see missing the Big East tourney...but if you really think going to the ACC is the wrong decision you've got your head buried in the sand just like Mike Trangese.

BET is awesome. In some ways I enjoy it more than the NCAA Tournament. A four day stretch to win the BET is more difficult than getting to the Final Four. But also - the environment, the stage, the focus ESPN puts on it. It is college basketball's second biggest event. I am heartbroken that we won't play in NYC for our conference tourney anymore. It adds so much credibility to the conference.

It is one of several reasons why I truly hope there can be a pre-conference type event there with former Big East pillars. Imagine a Fri/Sat event where Syracuse, Georgetown, UConn, and St. Johns or Villanova play against each other. SU vs UConn on Friday night, SU vs Gtown on Saturday. Something like that. Something along the lines of the Big 5. Call it "The Old East" Problem is - since some of the other teams will still be in the same conference they won't want to play each other. If you brought Pitt into it so that it was say PU vs GTown on Fri and PU vs UConn on Sat - then it probably starts looking too much like an ACC/Big East Challenge. Anyway - it would be a great event!
