Is there a thread about the Guy forcing the female announcer to kiss him?

I do yes only because I have been doing it since I was a 8 and I dont know any better! My son hates it and always asks why we do it. I tell him to shut up and clap
Watching the game on TV last night, I looked for people clapping when we opened the second half with that scoring drought. I had to laugh, since the best I saw was a few people doing uncomfortable golf claps. If you can't do it with enthusiasm, then you shouldn't do it.

It was truly repulsive and looked sloppy... if I were her I probably would have hit him.

Regarding atmosphere- travel to a lot of away games and always wonder why other schools seem to be able to have coordinated
'cheers'/chants that the majority of the venue will join (not just students) and we have NOTHING really- the stand and clap has gotten lame, Lets...Go...S...UUUUU... chant is god awful etc. I miss the days of Dome Eddy and Rainbow man getting chased around the dome etc. Oh, and having a pep band that gets to play for more than 15 seconds a game.

I sit next to the students and they hold up a poster to chant etc for the students. They sit in the left front corner of their section and angle it so the students can see it. They don't seem to get a consensus of students to follow the chants either though.

"Dropping a Deuce, for The Cuse"
Exactly and when we shot a free throw and its the one and one and we hit the first he will say and now the bonus.
He says the score after every basket which is completely unnecessary and is copying the MSG PA.
Mr. Excitement needs to learn less is better and he isn't part of the show. I loved when JB scolded him badly at the ND game last year when he talked about Cooney's 3 pt shots.

This thread reminds me of Broadway Joe-

If you're watching on TV, you shouldn't be critiquing the effin degree of clapping enthusiasm of those who are there.

1) Get rid of "shooting a deuce for the cuse". It doesn't even properly rhyme.
2) Encourage, hell even subsidize the giant face posters from 5 years ago, when there were giant faces of andy, Wes, JB, CJ in the student section.
3) Get rid of the "We are S-U" and "Let's go SU" chants by the male cheerleaders during timeouts. Very cliche, corny, and annoying.
4) Get rid of the microphone girl trying to dance next to Tha Maestro. Most awkward 10 seconds of the game.

This board is a little bit bigger than the metropolitan Syracuse area. Truth be told, I was watching on ESPN3 by the miracle of the internet. :)

Actually after the segment was over with on the screen, I continued watching that section and saw Lisa give that guy 2 more kisses. She might have been just trying to be a good sport and not come off frazzled, but she didn't seem to overly PO'd. Fwiw.

So when they escorted you out, were they at least friendly?

How about those of us who don't live in the vicinity of Syracuse and get to maybe one game a year in the Dome?

The worst part of going to the games at the Dome is listening to Mr.Excitement and all the talking the commentary he does during the games. Just announce the players who score, foul calls, and timeouts. I hate when he adds so much more over the PA. Mr. Excitement needs to be put on a word diet during games.

Yeah, I think we all took for granted how good of a PA announcer Carl Eilenberg was.

True, but he had these gems toward the end of his time at the table and both players went over to him and told him to cut it out:

Craig "May The Forth Be With You" Forth
"Terry Roberts"

As bad as Mr. excitement is, and he is bad, no one compares to the Georgetown PA announcer GAA GAA GAA

I agree, he got a little cheesy towards the end. But overall I loved his simple, classy delivery.

The university might get a little extra money up front for a few of the 'innovations' Dr Gross has introduced since he has been in charge.

But these ill advised choices do actively discourage people from attending games, buying season tickets, buying parking passes, buying concessions, buying souvenirs, etc.

A little hyperbole, perhaps? I hardly think that lame halftime promotions STOP people from coming to games. Most people are outside going to the bathroom or buying concessions when they're going on anyway. You might as well blame it on the weather forecaster who is broadcasting the weather report for the drive home from the game.

Well I would go to the games, except a 24 hour one way drive is about one hour too long for me to drive to attend a game at The Dome. Only if I could have got a job one hour closer...a 23 hour one way drive would be doable!!

How about those of us who don't live in the vicinity of Syracuse and get to maybe one game a year in the Dome?

Agreed...but as we know...some people don't think before they hit the Post Reply button...

I agree with the clapping too...from a TV perspective, it seems kind of lame...a bit different when you are at The Dome...

No, absolutely not.

I wish they only did the promos at halftime. That is actually the time when they do the least number of them, presumably for the reason you gave.

The people I know that attend SU basketball games do not like the changes discussed in this thread. I know for at least 4 people that have dropped their season tickets with this as the primary causal agent.

IMHO, the fundamental disconnect is this: SU basketball is a great product. People go to the games to watch basketball and enjoy the college atmosphere. All the distractions, noise, piped in music, ads and other garbage constantly directed at the fans is not desired or helpful, and it hurts the bottom line in terms of money as well.

Georgetown PA guy sounds like the cartoon dog Droopy. Mr. Excitement just talks way TOO MUCH after baskets and tries to add way more than is necessary. JB scolded him badly at the end of the ND game last year. Nobody tells him enough stop all this talking and less is better.
Ellenberg was a true pro he may have slipped towards the end but he didn't talk too much.

A thousand likes! And everything is scripted, no matter what is happening in the game. The pep band and DJ should have sole ownership of the time outs, and use their instincts to enhance the game, or at the very least, cheer us up! I remember there was a really big game a few years ago, the Dome was packed, we were ahead and someone made a great play. The opposing coach instantly called a time out, and just as instantly the PA system blared the Four Tops, "Can't help myself." The crowd was on its feet singing and clapping, and even though the lyrics were a little odd, the energy was great.

Now there's a time out, what? A commercial, 20 seconds of "The Final Countdown" by the pep band, and then a hideous "cheer." As one poster said earlier, other schools seem to have standard cheers they all bellow lustily. I noticed this at the Final Four. We were the only school that didn't.

Now to end on a bright note, I do think that despite this the Dome crowd can be fantastic. The Wake Forest game last week is a fine example of an exciting game, lots of offense, hysteria, anxiety and people cheering their lungs out. And the outcome was suh-weet!

No way, Courtney Furtado is gorgeous. Adds to overall Dome experience, imho. ;)
