Is this a good sign for Football attendance?

I will confess my ignorance, but I thought the point of these mass vaccinations is to establish herd immunity. What's the point of doing all this if we are going to keep mandating vaccinations, testing, and quarantines for every case that pops up come fall? At some point, the people that want to be protected will be, and the others can deal with the situation as it arises (if it arises).

As of now, my kids arent old enough to be vaccinated. They likely won't be allowed to attend, and I won't be going without them (nor would I make them get tested to go, if that remains the system). There are always leaves to be raked, and apples to be picked, I suppose?
Compliance is the true goal

Only got 40% of the state to go until we starting jabbing the kids and we could be back to normal.
id say less just on the ones who already had the virus that arent getting vaccinated has to be in the 5-10 % range

This is true, but time really flies. And nothing ever happens quickly in the land of bureaucracy. Especially in the summer when people will be clamoring to get away and make up for last year.

Now is the time to be planning given that vaccinations will be available to all adults by the end of the month.
Does it make any sense for Syracuse to announce something that might be outdated in 14 days? My organization is dealing with the same exact uncertainty when it comes to getting people into an arena and unfortunately we can't be proactive because we just don't know. And we're in-season right now, not 5 months away.

I didn't say announce. I said plan. Bake in some contingencies because they don't know all the twists and turns. Being entirely reactive instead of somewhat proactive will burn them.

they have to do something by the time parking is set to be chosen in june

I guarantee they have multiple plans ready to go. But once again being proactive doesn't do anything if things can change in a few days.

It’s funny to me that the bills are requiring this for fans yet not requiring the players to get the vaccine

i think the players are tested everyday closer to the season

I think the Erie County executive hatched this plan and told the Bills this is what they'll have to do. My guess is that it will be modified many times before September. Governor Cuomo has questioned the county's authority on this one - probably because it wasn't his idea. ;)

they can control the people and the stadium, the fball union not so much

Syracuse is accepting cards already. It will be hard for SU to force people to use the Excelsior app if people from out of state cannot use it. SU gets a significant percentage of their crowd from out of state. Especially for football.
Thank you for answering my question, lol. Hopefully we can show card. I have a photo of the card saved on my phone. I am hoping I can use that so I don't have to worry about losing the card or having some jerk spill beer all over it.

I was at my first professional sporting event last night. Even with pods, outside, many people being vaxxed, it was pretty eerie. Instead of a person that shows you to your seat there's a person with sign about wearing your mask and she throws it in your face like a Saturday Night Live skit. Like lady - drinking a beer and talking to my wife, no one is within 20 feet of us. So I'd rather have the ID of who I am am with a card than that all game long.

Interesting times.

Agree, unfortunately the numbers show that many folks aren’t going to get the vaccine , that will eliminate the hope for herd immunity. Selfishly my only chance to have a mask free full stadium experience ( well for football unrestricted not full ) is some sort of vaccine card system. That’s where we are today.

Fear not my fellow Orange fan, once enough people are vaccinated combined with a sufficient number who have had the virus and herd immunity will be achieved. It may take longer and we will lose a few more people but it will be achieved one way or another.

I wonder if he waited so long to increase capacity at indoor sports events to time this in coordination with the end of SU indoor sports and NYC indoor sports (Rangers and Knicks)?

The Rangers last scheduled home game is 5/5. The Knicks last scheduled home game is 5/13. They have 2 home games that might be made up.

I think both have a decent chance of making the playoffs. But probably won't be playing into June.

Yes he stated that it was expanding on the 19? To accommodate them having larger crowds for playoffs in his presser today

Also, it’ll be interesting to see how Cuomo reacts to Connecticut lifting all restrictions on May 19 minus masking.

he has said many times that NY, NJ and Conn. all need to be on the same page for restrictions...

Syracuse didn’t even open up to what the state limit was. So I don’t think that was part of it.
