Here's a roll up of total revenue.
As noted elsewhere how schools allocate revenue can vary and a lot of schools support their athletic departments with state aid and student fees.
Not sure what site the linked PDF is coming from, but the data is looking at basically 2 pieces of data reported to the OPE and can be found on the Equity in Athletics site of OPE.
Institutions report things differently to the US Department of Education and the form actually allows for this flexibility. Like Oregon has close to $52 million in "other revenue" whereas Syracuse only reports between $3-4 million in this category.
The site itself says the following:
Please note that valid comparisons of athletics data are possible only with study and analysis of the conditions affecting each institution.
Not that the OP knew any of this, they may have just found that PDF at one site and linked it assuming it was accurate data (which it is, in and of itself) but due to differing philosophies on where to report certain revenue, is not useful for comparing two pieces of data within the entire set. If one has to use the site's data the better starting point is looking at Grand Total of Revenue and Grand Total of Expenses and then be wary of the "other" revenue since some of it may be athletics donation (perhaps in Oregon's case) while for others it may be operating $$$ borrowed from the university (Rutgers, possibly SU) to get the books to balance so to speak.
Cheers,
Neil
The original post was meant to show the relative strenght of the two mens programs.
i think your 6th point was for JB to play a game at Giants Stadium. it would basically still be a 'home' game, yet the Orange would be out of the state.None of them signed up for 14 games over 2 decades which were likely to be the top 14 OOC games. Stop acting like what we are doing is common place.
I'll be interested to see how the attendance works out for these games out in the Meadowlands. I can say that I never miss an SU hoops game in the Garden and the SU 'home team atmosphere' in that building has certainly surpassed some SU Football games I've attended in the Dome. Football and basketball crowds are apples and oranges of course (no pun intended), but it will be interesting.
For the record, I was at the SU/Wisconsin game in the Meadowlands in 97 and the crowd was definitely pro-SU, but it didn't quite feel like a home game to me. The Garden on the other hand...
Knowing people doesn't mean being able to influence them. But, I will say many many years ago (as a few very long timers will attest), we were frustrated about the basketball atmosphere in the Dome and I sent them my infamous "6 point plan". If I recall correctly they implemented 5 if not all 6 of them. Not all at once and not necessarily because I suggested them...but still, I like to think so.![]()
I'd wish you would submit an updated 6 points starting with forbidding cheerleaders to start lame ass cheers. Please tell me we don't have you to thank for Mr. Excitement, canned music, and commercial advertisements.

I remember there was a list but I can't recall the specifics. They never answered you though did they? Did they just ended up doing them. I remember the frustration because we thought no one seemed to be paying attention.Wish I had copied them because you did repost them a couple of times on the old boards.I'm trying to remember what the 6 were. Has to be 20 years ago. I think some were student seating, benches, TV cameras, not sure though. Maybe Cherie will remember, I know she was around the boards then.
And I still can't for the life of me understand the b*tching and moaning by the CNYers that they have to actually jump in a car once a year and travel down the road 3.5 hours. I'm not looking for a cookie or anything, but I do the reverse commute up to Syracuse 6 or 7 times a fall. Its not that terrible. And if the Dome was sold out every weekend, this wouldn't be an issue.
I can think of at least 100 people that fall into this category. Bend over fans.My parents are in their 80's. You think Senior Citizens can just "jump in a car" and do a day trip to NYC?
Most of the people who bought season tickets when the Dome opened are now pretty advanced in age, and may not have the ability to travel to NYC for a weekend.
This is the thanks they get for 30+ years of loyalty.

You've got to be kidding me. So now we're catering to the octogenarians? Its one game a year. Its financially beneficial to the athletic dept. This really is a no-brainer. Unfortunately the CNYers want to roll out of bed and have the game in their living room.
You don't seem to be quite as concerned about the 80 year olds who live 4 hours away.
thank them for 80 years of walking to the campus for games and tell them they still will have the EXACT # of home games that they have had for, i dont know...whenever college went to an 11 game schedule. My parents are in their 80's. How about catering to the "blue hairs" who've been writing checks to SU for the past 30 years?
When those checks stop coming in, it won't be so financially beneficial. Good luck trying to get people to make "Preferred A" donations to see MAC and 1-AA teams every season.

its now a 12 game schedule but we are going to play what couldve been an extra game at home, in the worlds capital... sorry, tell em to enjoy their 6 games. they dont any different anywho.
nothings changed, except now the school has an opportunity to play where a majority of their alumni base is. that same base who likely contributes more $$ each year to the athletic and general fund then cny-ers, but cant make it up to the Dome.

Again, do you not understand that many of the blue hairs who make donations actually have to spend more than 10 minutes going to football games? I have zero sympathy for the locals that are going to need to make a 3-4 hour trip once a year. Cry me a river. From someone who has seasons and lives in the metro area and does go to every Syracuse home football game, its nice to be thrown a bone. Coming from my perspective, you can understand how this comes off as whiny, right?

A 5 hour trip to the Dome vs a 14 hour round trip to the Meadowlands. You don't see a difference.
Don't worry ... some day you'll get old.
And I hope the "younger generation" **ks you over just like this. Then you'll be crying a river all right.
I think he is referring to driving and game time ++++You don't think its round trip for me too? And 14 hour round trip? Thats absurd.

You're not in your 80's. How many times do you think my Dad has to take a leak between Syracuse and NJ?![]()
