It's all about the Benjamins.

Haha, fair point

Whoever designed the prostate really needed to go back to the drawing board.

A couple of years ago my father and I took a bus trip to a Yankees game. 15 hours. It's a long day for someone born before 1930.

I'm only 36 and I don't claim to understand the bladder capacities of an 80 year old. My wife and I are local season ticket holders.

My god, the level of whining regarding these Medowlands games absolutely amazes me. The overwhelming benefits that are gained from this Meadowlands game completely trump the handful of displaced fans.

Glad to see this conversation has stayed relatively civil. I know it's a hot button issue.

I hate to see long time fans lose a home game (like Xtreme's parents), but as Kaiser said, this is the 12th game--a bonus game that Doc Gross is wisely using to gain exposure for the team in the country's biggest media market and keep metro area alums (like me) involved and donating. I think he needs to be careful not to take too many marquee games out of the Dome (which is and always will be our home field), but with Miami, Florida St., Clemson, Virginia Tech and Penn St. all coming into the Dome in the next few years, I think the local fans will get plenty of opportunity to see big time teams.

I will continue to support our team wherever we play.

My parents are in their 80's. You think Senior Citizens can just "jump in a car" and do a day trip to NYC?

Most of the people who bought season tickets when the Dome opened are now pretty advanced in age, and may not have the ability to travel to NYC for a weekend.

This is the thanks they get for 30+ years of loyalty.

I understand the point about not seeing "marquee" OOC games at the Dome, but it's only 1 game (not even every year) and if the extra money gained for these games is utilized appropriately it should help advance the program (facilities, national exposure, recruiting). I think that the "sacrifice" that fans are making in this case is worth it.

I also hear the argument about how "marquee" OOC games would fill the Dome, so why should we move these games. However, our most recent "marquee" OOC game at the Dome sticks in my mind. The Penn State game a couple years ago is a prime example. Even with the throngs of Penn State fans and a renewal of the rivalry, the Dome was STILL not sold out for that game! I realize that SU football was in the worst stretch in it's history, but this was an opportunity for the community to express their interest in SU football and we fell flat (and yes, I was there at the game).

Lastly, with all of that said, I still think that our home football schedule each year is going to be more appealing now that we're in the ACC with teams like Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Va Tech, Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Maryland, and Duke making their way to the Dome... also, anyone who is willing and/or able can still make their way to NYC for the OOC game played there.

With a thread title like this I can't believe nobody got a Puff Daddy reference in... before now

"I don't know what, they want from me? It's like the more money we come across
the more problems we see"

What would be the difference? Show me another team that does what we have done. We are 34th of 120 teams. What is wrong about that? Oh, we need even more money so lets move the biggest draws to the Meadowlands for 2 decades AND increase donations and ticket prices. Why doesn't SU at least be be honest with the fans then?

Virginia Tech plays a game in DC every other year it seems. OU / UT play off site, as do UGa / UF. Don't Mizzou and Kansas do the same, or at least did? Notre Dame is playing Miami in Chicago. Oregon and LSU played a neutral site game last season, Maryland played Notre Dame at FedEx.

How about catering to the "blue hairs" who've been writing checks to SU for the past 30 years?

When those checks stop coming in, it won't be so financially beneficial. Good luck trying to get people to make "Preferred A" donations to see MAC and 1-AA teams every season.

Jeez...we're going to the ACC. FSU,Clemson, VT, Miami, etc, etc.

Gross made this deal in the Big East world...you know, the one where #5 Cincy comes to the Dome and we don't get 30K in the building.

And "moving" means uprooting something and putting it somewhere else. I don't see where all these games that haven't even been scheduled have been moved. Schools will play us at Giants Stadium because the payday is far better than a Dome payday.

As it is better at UConn, Rutgers and Temple.

In the end this whole thing will likely be moot, once Gross leaves for USC the new AD is going to evaluate whether or not this makes sense for the program. As Extreme pointed out you cant move every marquee game when were in the ACC and play only 3 OOC games every year.

THE BUFFALO BILLS, NY BUSINESS ENVIORMENT DRIVES OUT THE MONEY. TEAMS DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO.

If your sports "family" is in Syracuse then it's your responsibility to travel there for the family gatherings. That being said, sometimes the family gathering gets hosted by an out of town member. But somebody in the family is usually upset with the inconvenience. We are family! (Cue the Pointer Sisters). :)

Yea, even though Gross got passed over when they just hired a new AD...

Another strange thread. I thought once we got into the ACC, attendance was going to go through the roof for our conference home games? That's what posters on these boards keep telling me. Does it really matter if we have a big OOC game at the Meadowlands once every other year?

Cheers,
Neil

I think it's the mindset that may be troubling. Will we see UNC/Duke hoops games moved to MSG every other year? This is my fear.

No, because attendance at home hoops games has never been an issue.

Although TWO first mentioned this possibility, she later retreated.

Conference games should be played at home... which means the Dome.

With TGD & TWO at the wheel one can never be sure, however. :-(

I tend to think Cuse will try to schedule UConn or Seton Hall in MSG...or maybe Cuse/Pitt play UConn/WVU in a knockout doubleheader at MSG.

The last part was what I suggested on an annual basis, calling it the Northeastern Classic, but with St. John's instead of WVU.

That way they could change it up, one year Pitt vs UConn and SU vs St. John's, the next Pitt vs St. John's and SU vs UConn.

The Pitt/WVU rivalry game should be reserved for their home courts, not MSG. Just like SU vs the hated Hoyas.

Cheers,
Neil
