It's Official: It’s GMac

Email I just received:

Syracuse University Athletics official identity

Dear Friends:
When I first came to Syracuse as an 18-year-old kid from Scranton, Pennsylvania, I had no idea what this place would mean to me. I just knew I wanted to compete, I wanted to win and I wanted to make people proud. Our University gave me everything. A championship. A degree. A career. A family. And when my playing days were over, it gave me the opportunity to help develop the next generation of Orange student-athletes grow into young men I’m genuinely proud of.

I spent the last two years at Siena University and I’m grateful for every minute of my time there. But know this: I have always been Orange.

And now I’m back. And I am ready to work.

Here’s what I need you to know: this program has everything it takes to compete at the highest level. The talent. The history. The fan base. The Dome. But competing at the top takes resources and urgency. The transfer portal opens in two weeks. Recruiting never stops. The work to build a roster that can win championships begins today.

That’s why I’m asking you, personally, to make a gift to Syracuse Men’s Basketball on Giving Day today, Tuesday, March 24.
I know what it means when this community shows up. I felt it as a player every time we ran out of that tunnel. I felt it on the road when I’d hear “Let’s Go Orange” in an opposing arena. I need recruits and their families to feel it too. I need them to see and experience how this fan base is unlike anything else in college basketball.
Whether you give $3 for the number I wore, $44 for the number so many greats wore, $2,003 for the year we won the national championship, or whatever you can—it matters. Every single gift is a statement that Orange Nation is behind this program.
I didn’t come back to be comfortable. I came back to win. Help me do that.
Make your Giving Day gift today at givingday.syr.edu/givetombb.

I’ll see you in the Dome.

Return of the Mac

Little sad for Siena. Seems that they had things rolling for next year under GMac. Now its back searching for a coach, knowing their top player(s) will be following GMac to Syracuse.
just imagine a school like VCU or Utah state that gets their coaches poached seemingly every year

You guys and gals think Gerry will win the presser or nah.

Anyone know how Red took his firing and the hiring of Gmac?
I'm sure he is super happy and proud.

Definitely going to make him feel even better when he finds out that Gerry in his first 8 hours has a grassroots donor campaign with 1,161 donors who have already donated 183k and rising. I don't remember right after Red was hired, but I don't remember real fundraising action happening at the grassroots level this engaged. I'm assuming this campaign doesn't even account for the private backers giving millions.

I heard that Duke strategically planned for the hand off from K to Scheyer for three years. They made sure that the next coach (I’m sure they knew K wanted Scheyer) had all the resources in place to succeed from day one. Additional staff, etc. Duke did everything right to ensure the product didn’t drop off. Of course, they are Duke and were on top when K left. SU was a totally different story. JB didn’t really focus on the transition, and the school seemed to do nothing to prepare for it. And worse, we were not in a very good place when the baton was forcibly passed.

Hopefully, this is our chance to right the wrongs of three years ago. Get Gerry the resources he’s needs and let er rip!
JB didn't focus on the transition because he thought he'd never leave. Other people didn't agree and he wasn't ready for a transition.
