James looking good

No more deer in the headlights... seems to really be in the flow thus far

I was at the Seton Hall game last year and in my seat really early watching warmups and I looked up and JS was smiling and waving to me lol. He is a very likeable player that you want to succeed. and yes what a sweet stroke. I hope he continues to work hard.

Good? Good! What GOOD! 15 points as many as KJ! Like he was the first game of Freshman year, but now it counts!

Beautiful stat line, and he had a tremendous high-low with Christmas in the first half. If he plays like he did tonight, he's our second-best player.

Here's the stat I like on Southerland: 0 TOs. It's not the most important number but while a lot of people here complain about his lack of handle, he also does a nice job playing within himself. He only turned it over 6 times all of last season and has yet to turn it over this year in close to 40 minutes. For his career, he has just 14 turnovers. He literally has 2.5 times as many threes as turnovers. I'm sure he'll make plenty of mistakes but I just like that the kid seems to be adding quite a bit with very few negatives thus far.

he makes me think of robert horry. i have no idea why, except the height and deadly range. i don't see any parallels in their college stats though. southerland's ability to freeze the defender without a dribble, and then shoot over them, could become an nba level move.

Looks great out there. Wonder if he will outshine cj who's had more buzz this off season.

hope he can stay at this level or close to it all year.
I was very impressed with James tonight. If he can keep it up he will earn some serious minutes.

The big question for James is will he be able to sustain his boardwork & all-around play when he comes up against bigger, stronger players. That was his problem last season. When confronted with physicality he didn't fight on the inside & he drifted to the outside where sometimes he was hot & sometimes not.

So, as good as he has looked early, the jury is still out on James.

There is not shot on the court JS can't make.

That is what makes him dangerous. That, combined with his newly found aggressiveness and hustle on D, makes him a scary player.

I hope he keeps it up he brings a completely different weapon to the team. Plus, the guy is a clown.

You know how much crap I bet he's already given Triche when he dunked on him?

He gets off the floor SO fast. Maybe even faster than Wes. His dunks are effortless. Hopefully he keeps working hard.

It's hard to draw conclusions against such inferior competition, but I'd rather see production than not, and it's really good to see some of the x-factor guys on the team like Dirty and Melo getting off to a good start.

Robert Horry wishes he had half the athleticism JS has.

His worst enemy seems to be himself. He has a lot of talent and I hope he continues to improve and be more consistent. If he can come off the bench and add 5 rebounds as well as shoot like he's capable, SU will be in very good shape and it's another weapon Boeheim can use to counter a team going to the zone and by the way he played yesterday, even man.

Its great to have 3pt options who are 6'8", 6'8", and 6'7" in addition tour guards. I'm hoping JS keeps up the intensity cuz the sky is literally the limit.

He had games like this his freshman year so lets not get ahead of ourselves. Until I see that he can confidently handle the ball on the dribble I will reserve my praise. He still struggles doing anything but dunks and planted jump shots.

False. His worst enemy is s high-level Division I basketball player who have a scouting report and can use it.

Manhattan stinks. They may be the worst team we face all season.

Hope James can keep playing well -- the team could absolutely use him as an option. I remain skeptical though until he faces some level of competition. Fordham and Manhattan are god-awful.

He does not need the dribble to score. As long as he has enough of a handle to escape pressure and avoid turnovers, he can be an offensive asset on the court.

Obviously, he has not faced top-level opposition in these first two games. But I like the way he seems to be playing comfortably within his skill set.

I am very positive about James and his improvements with defense, rebounding and passing. I agree though that we need to see it against the big boys before we get too excited.

I agree with you to a point. Bigger more athletic players are usually better and harder to score on and a good scouting report with players that can execute it will hurt Southerland but...if he can get over the mental hurdles I think we may begin to see a different player we have in the past. I still don't think he can drive by anyone but again he can shoot an open j along with being active on offensive and defensive rebounds. I think we'll see him a lot when teams go zone against SU and depending on how much he has improved, more playing time against man as well. Add to this if he continues to play good defense Boeheim will give him more minutes. We'll see how it goes but I'm hoping he has turned the corner a bit.
