Lemoyne Postgame

Here is my legitimate silver lining: at least we won.

You cannot lose to a team like that and expect to get in the tournament.

I’m sure the scoring margin will hurt us anyway, but at least we won.
Didnt we lose in 09 and still do extremely well.

Right, an exhibition. You really don’t see a difference? This game counted
I made no inference to seeing or not seeing a difference. I noted only that we played them in 2009-10

they scored 86 points going 4-22 from 3 and missing 11 free throws. Honestly I’m encouraged by all that. They missed tons of shots around the bucket too. What I’m not encouraged with was the defense. Complete opposite of what I saw at practice. Not much pressure on the ball and intensity. I get first game jitters but man oh man. Bells defensive play at the end though was great. Take the win and move on for now…

And also people that were questioning Jyare, the kid is a player. And might be the best player on the team. Also, Bell has shown his game has developed. His 20 points was all types of ways and was very excited to see him put it on the floor and drive too

Yeah that tweet about Chance dressing next game can’t be a coincidence. Red must see it too. Again can’t count on anything or that he even would able to last the season but JJ can’t play the point hands down.
He must be the only person in town except for JJ who thought he could play it. Inexcusable, this was called out early.

And that was the game where Boeheim made a statement by having the players play M2M the entire game. It was his way of letting the team know that we are 100% a zone team. And I’d say the wake up call worked out quite well considering we should have won the title that year:

There’s a lot to work on.

But I’ll point out the positive stuff that I liked:

- Starling was more decisive to the lane and finished better in the 2nd half. Could have had another 10 points in the first but missed a bunch of easy ones

- interior passing between Davis and Eddie is nice and something that we’ve not had recently

- Davis has a bit of dog in him that this team needs. Starling and Bell are the scorers but don’t have the same fight

- Carlos is good but will get better as he plays more w these guys - effeciency is his best asset

- Donnie will get better game to game, will be a problem on both ends by 1/2 the season

- his help D is bad and we need it to be good when Eddie gets pulled out into the pick and roll (he’s def a def liability)

Edit: This will be a “not the same team they were” season if we end up any good. They will collectively need to grow and get better game after game. Think NC State.

Not knocking you in any way, shape or form here because I enjoy your posts and combination of positivity and being real. But if you saw something different in practice then you are seeing on the court I am knocking Autry. Why? Because you said the same thing last year about the offense that what we were seeing on game day is not what you saw in practice. One of the main jobs of a coach is to get his players to play the way he wants them to, win or lose. If coach can’t get that done he might not be the right guy.

A few game observations:
- Lampkin is going to stuggle when he doesn’t have a physical advantage which will be often against like for like talent. Lemoyne dudes were able to handle his post ups.
- Freeman flashes talent and will absolutely have a game or two where he goes off, but he won’t consistently be the reason we win games
- Bell is smooth and will get his points
- JJ looks much better on offense
- lots of parts and pieces on this team… not sure how many are better than replacement level ACC players beyond Bell and JJ
- It’s not clear to me that going into year 2 whether we know or have a defensive strategy beyond stay in front of your guy.

Caveat this is only 2 exhibitions and one real game in.

Like I said, I don’t think they respected the opponent. The offense I saw in practice was what we saw the last 6-8 mins of the game. I’m not sure what the other 32 minutes was because it was even different than the exhibition. I don’t disagree with you. I just think if this were game 10, then I would be worried. But it’s game 1 and they missed a ton of shots. They will be fine

Same. Obviously there's plenty to work on, shot selection wasn't great at times but some of the offense issues were simple fundamentals like finishing at the rim and making free throws. I saw some good ball movement

Defense is where I'm more concerned with

Defense is going to be a huge issue all year.

The points are going to be much more difficult to come by when we do not have the size and athleticism advantage.

I would rather win 60-56 going 4-22 from 3 than lose 86-82 against an NEC team.

Bubble team again... Can't wait!

Sat on this last night... The performance was bad, no doubt about it BUT, i dont think this is what the team is. I refuse to believe Starling is going to be this ineffective all year, and I think Carlos is far better than he showed in the first half last night. Lampkin was dominate the second half and Davis is clearly a bright spot.

Defense needs major work but that isn't new to anyone. It'll be a die-by-the-offense team and i trust they'll be very good come legends classic.

That would be a horrible look for Red if we truly did not respect the opponent, especially given the mediocre at best teams that have given us a close game or beaten us the last few years. His coaching is still a legit concern on the list. We needed more energy from him yesterday.

Bell showing something off the bounce is encouraging. Davis can play. Need to see more Choppa and less Taylor. Need to see more Petar as well.
