Freshman are gonna do freshman stuff. I was disappointed to see Howard not touch the ball after the fumble. Is Dino the kind of guy to put him in the doghouse? Kid has soooo much upside. I wonder if ball security has been an issue throughout camp, and practice. If so, then I get benching him. If not, I hope this kid's role continues to expand.

Markenzy vanished last year after fumbling. I think HCDB believes he has a weapon here so he will probably make him walk around all week with a FB, sleep with it, eat with it etc. We will see JH again.

It might be. Didn't Pierre sit after he fumbled last season?

I was happy to see him out in the 4th... Man.. after Dino praised his unselfishness in the FSU game, he didn't protect the ball enough on the same play. Yeah. Deserved a break, to get that back in his head.

He didn't make it back until DeVito time.

I'm guessing Dino wasn't too happy after praising him a week earlier for doing one thing, and watching him do the opposite this past weekend.

Can't blame him though. To get that close again on a long run, I can understand why he wanted to close it out. Seemed like he was a lot slower in the open field than he was against FSU, but maybe that's just me.

In his defense, he wasn’t being selfish on that play. He didn’t reach the ball across the goal line or anything like that. He was just stripped from behind.

Freshmen have short leashes. If Dino benched him due to the fumble, let the kid learn a lesson. Ball security is vital.

Need him to be physically fit to run this offense. His explosion off the line is phenomenal and something that we've missed, but it doesn't look like he has the stamina to take it the distance yet. If we get a bowl this year, those practices are really gonna help get guys like him to be better in shape and better in this offense for next year.

Honestly I was surprised how many UCONN kids ran him down from behind.

Stamina or speed?

The kid has great explosiveness/elusiveness at the point of attack but doesn't have great top end speed which is fine. If he did...he'd probably be playing in the SEC

That's a good question, but it will take some time to find out. The kid's a tank but also a freshman who is trying to keep pace in basically the fastest up-tempo offense in college football. He really hasn't had too much time to get acquainted into the strength program (didn't enroll early like some freshmen). Next year we'll find out which of the two it is.

I tend to agree. In FSU he had the presence of mind to cover the ball with 2 hands. That's what I'm referencing. The kid fires through the hole. Takes them 50 yards to catch up. He may need to have additional ball security on the long ones.

It's not selfish to try to score but it is unselfish to potentially sacrifice a chance to score to make sure you secure the ball. There's a middle ground that is neither one that he occupied. Wish he'd been unselfish on that play.
