Jarveon Howard

Just win, baby, and everything will sort itself out. It feels good that Dino has some options now.

I'm a little torn in Howard being too good not to use and him not losing a year. Hopefully he isn't out there because of injuries.
If he is too good not to use then he won’t be here for a 5th year anyways.

RB is probably the position with the most concern about mileage so kids seems to leave earliest from that spot. Rightfully so.

We absolutely want to redshirt Howard. He needs to catch up mentally to Strick. Strickland seems like a good leader so I’m happy with the koolaid man studying for a year rather than taking to load.

What Dino's program needs -- a handful of frosh who can force their way into the 2 deep and get on the field early. Howard in a rotation at RB, and either Queeley or Hendrix to fill a gap at outside receiver, certainly Cisco, probably Jonas & Williams.

Maybe. The mental aspect is something we can't know. If true freshman QBs can grasp their team's offenses well enough to play n in the NC game there's no reason a sharp guy at RB can't do the same for us.

I want the best guys to play. If that's JW and he's physically and mentally prepared let 2021 and '22 worry about themselves. There would be nothing better for recruiting than to have a freshman RB put up big numbers. If he's behind the other guys give him the redshirt.

I just get the feeling that Dino has an extraordinarily short leash for mental mistakes. See Pierre last year. I hope Howards hitting the playbooks and film as hard as he’s hitting lb’s and safeties.

IMHO Jarveon Howard is the best back we have RF - Sr. He is explosive and possesses a threat each time he touches the ball. I think we have to wait until we see him touch the football and see what happens when the season begins but from what I've seen so far we have a good backfield that will be helped by an improved offensive line which will pave the way for some prolific yards this year. A balance that can only help our total team look. My hope is that we are on the verge of an explosive offensive attack backed up by an aggressive, productive defense. GOSU! :)

From what I saw on film from HS Jarveon was not bad at pass blocking, he pancaked a OL in one sequence. He may be better at this than the usual Frosh. We shall see, but I was very impressed by what I saw on film.

Well, I'm not an offensive guru by any means, but if he's pancaking his own lineman, I see that as a detriment to our offensive productivity.

oops my mistake DL, but a running back able to pancake any beefy lineman is an accomplishment.

True. Still knowing Babers Howard is still going to have to pass/blitz block and make the right calls back there as well along with hanging onto the ball. So far...this is a wonderful problem to have.

How do you know that? How do you know there's a mentality gap?

Because I’m fairly certain Dino’s mentioned this offense takes more than a summer to fully understand and perform. Who knows, Howard could have it down.

Syracuse football down to 4 healthy DEs in Week 2 of camp (what we learned)

Freshman RB Howard 'built like a rock'

One of the few individuals named by Babers in his scrimmage recap interview for SU Athletics was freshman running back Jarveon Howard.

Howard, who wowed the program with his strength in the weight room this offseason, took off for a 55-yard gain. He also had multiple loud collisions with redshirt sophomore free safety Devon Clarke, leading Babers to say the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder back is "built like a rock."

Orange senior running back Dontae Strickland praised Howard for his willingness to take coaching on Thursday. Mastering the protection calls and checks that the running backs are responsible for may be the hardest part of learning the position in Babers' hurry-up spread offense.

"He's taking coaching very well," Strickland said, "so he'll be able to take his game up a lot."

Well everyone can be happy about this

I expect Howard to see some time at RB, he is capable of pass blocking, is a fast, powerful and elusive runner, and he is also pretty adept at catching passes. I doubt Babers has the luxury of not playing this kid, how much will depend on his ability to pick up the full or part of the offensive package. When I have heard him talk he has presented as a pretty smart mature young man.

Strickland was absent from the scrimmage per Bailey. don't want to stir the pot, but that seems like something to watch.
