but support a long time friend that he thought was innocent. If he is fired then I will never attend another SU basketball game as long as I live. This changes if its found that JB knew something,

Same here.I will watch the games ,but i will never go to the dome for another game. And i don't think JB knew a darn thing.I don't care who or what he called anyone.

Totally agree. If you wouldnt do that for one of your friends you are a big loser.

He did more than support a long time friend. He attacked the accusers by saying they were liars (a thousand times over) and they saw the PSU thing and wanted to extort money from the university.

It was typical over the top JB. See Tim Welsh's statements that also show support for a friend, but do not attack the accusers.

Not saying Boeheim should or will definitely be fired, but if he eventually is, I will understand the reason why even if some turn a blind eye to it.

Cheers,
Neil

Exactly. I don't understand people who are condemning JB for his original stance. Knowing what we all knew, it seemed very likely this was a con job. JB would have never said what he said if ESPN or the accusers came right out and said they had a tape. It is obvious to me that JB knew nothing, otherwise it would have been stupid to attack the accusers like he did. In fact, the attack only reconfirms my belief that JB knew nothing.

you people are insane. JB knew Davis was lying about one fact (whether JB saw the kid in the Fine's hotel room "all the time" - again, the kid said "all the time". 'Bees cant rewrite history.). JB knew several investigations took place and found nothing.

he had every right to draw the conclusion that he did.

From Welsh's statement, he didn't believe Davis' story about being molested at road games away since he was Bernie's roommate between 1988-1990. He got across the same point of Davis lying without being so strident about it.

The other major difference is that Welsh's statements were supportive of BF while not creating a climate of intimidation for other potential victims to feel free to come forward.

But I'm not sure this will ever penetrate the mind of someone who basically posted we should all be ashamed of ourselves for not fully supporting BF the way that Boeheim did.

Cheers,
Neil

Climate of intimidation? Which whack job group gave you that phrase?

I am sorry if JB's words intimidated you. maybe its time to get your big boy pants on.

When this news first leaked, I hoped that JB would shut down communications immediately.

The proper response would have been:

"Bernie has been my friend for 50 years. I certainly don't condone the types of behavior alleged by the victims, and will have no further comment until the matter is resolved by the authorities and the Unversity."

ESPECIALLY in light of PSU.

I can agree with this; it may reach a point that there's no other option available. But I would stop attending games, partly because I feel it would be the wrong decision...but mostly because this year with the football collapse and this story have tag-teamed to suck out almost all of the enjoyment I've gotten out of Syracuse athletics.

My other passion is the dismal science of economics, and as an Austrian School guy I spend my free time trying to figure out what to do when the Euro fails or the dollar goes Weimar-republic hyper-inflation. So I'm not exactly bullish on the future of the western world. My one break from that has generally been sports, but I'm tired of NFl lockouts, NBA lockouts, bought championships in college, steroids, etc... I've been steadily worn down, and am coming to terms with the fact that sports aren't a respite from the world, they are a mirror on it.

I'm not sure I even have any interest left now...I may just be going to games and watching out of habit. A Boeheim firing would be the emotionally significant event that would cause me to re-evaluate my sports passion and move on to some other interest. If I want to feel miserable I'll just read the Financial Times.

You are full of . So some meth head goes on ESPN and suggested you knew he was getting raped, noting that you walked into the hotel room when he was with the molester "all the time" and gave a weird questioning look, and you think thats how you would respond? by calmly saying you dont condone rape?

I think you are lying. I think all the people in this thread are lying or stupid.

\if any of you were in JB's shoes, with your career, family and reputation on the line, and someone went on nat'l TV and accused of doing nothing about rape, you would react in the same way.

So you're a fan of Jim boeheim more than Syracuse basketball?

Love JB and hope he rides this out, but SU is so much more important than he is to me.

No im a fan of doing the right thing !

JB IS SYRACUSE BASKETBALL.If he gets FIRED over some stupid statement, there will be no more Syracuse basketball.

Really? You really meant to say this?

There is absolutely no reason he should be fired or resign. If he gets fired, what kid is gonna want to play here. And yes his statement was nothing.

SU basketball existed long before Jim Boeheim and will exist long after him.

We're not Penn State. We don't have a cult of personality surrounding Jim Boeheim.

I love Syracuse basketball, and even though I didn't go to SU for undergrad, I've grown to really care about SU as an institution. If JB can't survive this, it will suck to no end, but the idea that SU basketball can't go on without him is ridiculous.

It really is wonderful fiction, but you know are rewriting facts to make your own conclusions, right?

I think calling Davis a meth head at this point is ridiculous.

I also don't recall him saying JB did "nothing about rape".

I've told every person who has asked my opinion on this matter from day one that JB needed to let this play out. No need for personal attacks and name-calling on your part.

In retrospect this by far the most troubling aspect of Boeheim's reaction. (My guess is that Boeheim is too much of an entitld and from-the-hip jackass to be calculating/manipulative in this way on the fly. But in retrospect, ... It is the one thing that gives me a lot of pause about the way he handled this up front. Which my own tendencies would otherwise track Tristan's on.)

I'm starting to think based on the information being discussed in the "Fine" thread, that the title of this thread will ultimately be JB's downfall.

There is no reason to fire JB. This is not a Paterno scenario where he had knowledge of what was going on and covered it up. There is absolutely no evidence that JB knew anything was going on (he's as shocked as the rest of us, probably more). And he certainly didn't cover anything up. The worst you can say about JB is that his initial comments about Davis lying were not measured enough or not PC. That should not be reason for termination. It's disgraceful the way the media is trying to railroad him to satisfy their blood lust. Get a grip people.

A lot of the national media love JB because he generally speaks his mind...not 1 game! He even admitted last week that he probably said too much about this already and toned down his remarks and said that if/when there were any substantial facts, he would reassess and take under advisement...which he now has...

Remember, the accuser stated that JB saw him on Bernie's bed in the hotel room, so JB emphatically denied this personal attack or attachment and then said it was a lie. No problem there, he obviously was a bit extreme when uttering 1000 lies, partly because of what the past investigations revealed or didn't, and that Davis said himself this happened thousands of times...really...thousands of times...so he was just returning the extreme...

Unfortunately, we live in an extremely & overly sensitive world...JB's words, although not wise, is in no way of any relevance in the whole realm of Davis' alleged damaged being...
