JB on First Take approx 11:30 AM today

are people really trying to make a credible argument that jb has gotten the job done on the recruiting trail as of late? The results are the results. There is nothing else to discuss.

Btw - from the sounds of it, JJs parents would have preferred him at cuse. So we had the parents and still couldnt close.
People? Naw.

He also failed to mention that the defensive efficiency rating of this team was 210(!).

Literally the worst in the history of Syracuse basketball dating back to when the website begins tracking the data (1996-97).

And it's the worst by nearly 100 ranking points (we were 119th in 2016-17 (19-15 record) & 116th in 2019-20 (18-14 record)).
At least we're consistent.

The gamechanger was HuggyBear...

He thought he was doing the mountaineer version of the Pitino white Col Sanders, but it went horribly wrong... all he was missing was the felt mustard bowler hat and a gold and ivory cane.

West Virginia decided (correctly) he was no longer able to dress himself properly and sent him out in trackies henceforth...

It caused a wave of coaching dressdown in D1...

That was what? 4-5 years ago? And we just brought in a 5 man class. You may have already decided you don't like that 5 man class but I suspect it took a fair amount of work to bring in that many players. And we seme to be going after a big class next year as well:
Point out the ones where we are hot? There are none. I hope this class is great. But where we were 6 or 7 months ago, it is a disappointment. Remember the names ? Gayle, Johnson, Lands, Westry. Clingan. We missed on all of them.

But it suggests that Boeheim isn't snoozing, which is what the picture implied.

Lands committing then backed out is that kind of like an in-and-out three?

Seems like people are saying, repeatedly, that JB put more effort in the past year but it’s still not as much as his peers. That’s not “snoozing”. And if he’s doing better, but not top notch, then you get a nice 5 man class instead of a killer 5 man class.

Nice classes won't get you anywhere but where we've been the last 8 years.

I think Jim did better during covid as it evened the field. Other coaches couldn't travel, tournaments were canceled or reduced. Basically everyone was on Zoom.
Now that things are open we will see the effort Jim put into recruiting.
Great observation. That is probably why we were in the mix for so many high end recruits until in person contact started back.

I'll give you an example. On the day before JJ was to visit Syracuse, Brey and his entire staff went to watch JJ practice. We sent AA. No JB. Okay. But JB didn't go anywhere else to watch anyone else. Jb doesn't go anywhere once practice starts. Let alone games. At the HOOP Hall classic this year, Cal showed up on Sunday. On Saturday, Kentucky had played Tenn. JB just doesn't do that anymore. And hasn't for years. This past year, he was on the road during the summer. But he is outworked by other head coaches.

I'm shocked to hear you saying these things. I've had you on mute for a while, and had no idea that your opinion had changed this much.

In an interview recently about coach K's retirement JB said “But I’m going to coach — Warren Buffet still goes to work every day, doesn’t he? And he’s what, 90? All he does it talk to people; all I do is talk to people. That’s all I do. I don’t have to get out and dig any ditches or run up and down the court. If I can keep winning, keep getting good players to come to Syracuse, I feel like I’ll coach for a while. I really do.”

In another interview he said all he needs to do is make decisions, he can still make decisions.

May be he will go five ten more years.

You do need to get out of your office and recruit.

This past December.

“It’s not just that he’s still going, it’s the way that he does it,” Wright, 59, said of Boeheim. “I wish people would know how hard he works in recruiting. You see him at all the events, you see him out all the time at games, seeing guys play.”

“It’s always kind of motivating to me. At his age, if he’s still doing it like this, he ‘s till working hard, we’ve gotta keep going to keep up with him. .That’s really the way you look at it, you gotta try to keep up with him.”
Exactly. Once again, the down on JB crowd are having a great - albeit a circus putting him down. Wash rinse, repeat. It's tiresome, especially when you don't agree with them and they don't know what they're talking about.

5 recruits are still 5 recruits until they get to campus. SU has had several large classes in the last few years and most are gone or underwhelming. With Buddy graduating and moving on JG3 and Jesse are the only two starters still at SU out of 13 recruits in the last four classes. So, maybe 1/4 of recruits probably aren't going to pan out.

Hey Fly Rodder...Hendricksons in just about a month.

My philosophy is that I get excited when I see the "recruits" on the floor and not before.

Oh, that just isn't so. He doesn't come close to hitting the recruiting road as he once did. That isn't a guess. That is a fact. And I don't really blame him. But that is the job. Our rivals are out there beating the bushes. He sends his ass'ts out. It isn't fair to them. Or us. And it leads to 16-17 seasons.
Well now thats many opinions in a few short sentences.
