JB on First Take approx 11:30 AM today

what ever happened to the days when coaches and car salesman wore suits and ties ? not always best tailored but at least an effort was made. now they all dress in pajamas.

You clearly don’t get it.
JJ Sterling didn’t choose Notre Dame because of NIL deals.

Look at the ESPN top 100 its got a lot of schools smaller than Syracuse getting recruits.
We have a 5 person class none on that list.

You don’t even get NIL.

Kids outside of the elite of the elite aren’t getting NILs before entering college. That is a football issue not basketball.

Jim Boeheim has a done poor job managing and keeping the roster stock and full of talent.
LOL, Notre Dame doesn't have bagmen! You know that for a fact that he didn't get an NIL deal?

and from what i see Jim really isnt slowing down.
well his winning % is. and when's the last time we played for a league championship ?
aren't hall of fame coaches supposed to at least battle competitively in their own leagues ? if you can't even beat up the dudes on your own block then stay on the damn porch . don't you go challenging the entire neighborhood. it starts HERE !

The gamechanger was HuggyBear...

He thought he was doing the mountaineer version of the Pitino white Col Sanders, but it went horribly wrong... all he was missing was the felt mustard bowler hat and a gold and ivory cane.

West Virginia decided (correctly) he was no longer able to dress himself properly and sent him out in trackies henceforth...

It caused a wave of coaching dressdown in D1...

I really think you should consider how rust proofing will affect the value of your vehicle in 3-5 years. It's a sound investment in this climate.

I'll give you an example. On the day before JJ was to visit Syracuse, Brey and his entire staff went to watch JJ practice. We sent AA. No JB. Okay. But JB didn't go anywhere else to watch anyone else. Jb doesn't go anywhere once practice starts. Let alone games. At the HOOP Hall classic this year, Cal showed up on Sunday. On Saturday, Kentucky had played Tenn. JB just doesn't do that anymore. And hasn't for years. This past year, he was on the road during the summer. But he is outworked by other head coaches.
Hey, Boeheim once sat on the stoop of a row house on the west side of Baltimore (think tv series Homicide) to get one of the best players in the country. Of course that was twenty years ago. Haven't heard stories like that since then

NILS will be remembered as the poison on the arrow tip that killed college sports.
early entry was bad. free transfer rules worse. open money from program boosters the death knell.

It was quite a stroke of luck for the Irish when Starling went to prep school 40 miles from their campus.
He spent 17 years in Syracuse but it was a stroke of good luck for the Irish that he spent one year in Indy? Maybe? But he should have been ours to lose. And we didn't close the deal. Again.

"Luck".

are people really trying to make a credible argument that jb has gotten the job done on the recruiting trail as of late? The results are the results. There is nothing else to discuss.

Btw - from the sounds of it, JJs parents would have preferred him at cuse. So we had the parents and still couldnt close.

Well, I was told here not too long ago that these higher profile back yard type kids of ours we seemingly consistently lose on "just want to get away" from home...or along those lines. ;)

Brandon Triche deserves apologies from pretty much everyone. I wasn’t hard on him but I didn’t appreciate him enough.

It shouldn’t be hard to find prospects like Triche for a program like us.

The kid never played marathon minutes except his Senior year.

This is hysterical.

"We lost 4 games by 1-2 points out of our last 10."

If you don't do your research, you'd probably believe him.

We lost 0 games by 1-2 points in our last 10.

In fact, we lost 1 game in our last 10 by less than 9 points (Miami).

9, 3, 9 (OT), 25, 10, 12 were the margins of our last 6 losses.

"JB says things" really should be the new mantra around here. Unreal.

Another howler from the Dakich interview is JB saying that the team's offensive efficiency was ranked 16th in the country on kenpom.com this season, and it's never been that high before in all his years of coaching.

Cuse's offensive efficiency ranked higher in 2005 (14th), 2009 (10th), 2010 (6th), and 2012 (12th).

Nobody respects good offense more than Jim Boeheim.

i get that. do you go with your head or your heart? these kids grew up orange fans.
but you should always choose the school that's the best fit for you. that might be elsewhere.

He also failed to mention that the defensive efficiency rating of this team was 210(!).

Literally the worst in the history of Syracuse basketball dating back to when the website begins tracking the data (1996-97).

And it's the worst by nearly 100 ranking points (we were 119th in 2016-17 (19-15 record) & 116th in 2019-20 (18-14 record)).

Yeah: ND never draws good players from other schools backyards.

JB says "things" all the time. Sometimes completely contradictory a second later.

For example, when he was asked about the Buddy punch he said Buddy swung his arm inadvertently. He then said the kid pushed him twice, and you can't let people push you around.

A local sport radio station played this a bunch of times on that day and several hosts took that quote and ran with it. "Hey Boeheim, which is it? Inadvertent or can't let people push you around? Pick one!"

This is a bad season, no one will dispute that, but I think some will put an "asterick" next to the bad season and argue that this bad season is just one bad season (instead of a decline followed by a steep dive), and that the bad season was due to COVID, Jesse's injury and Buddy's suspension. Personally while I like Buddy, I am not so convinced that the outcome of that last game will be any different if he had played. Symir made a huge difference and if Buddy wasn't suspended I am not sure we would have seen that Symir.

Yeah: ND never draws good players from other schools backyards.

That's pretty weak. Syracuse is the 5th winningest basketball program in history. We are talking about ND hoops, you know, where even the ND fans (like TerryD that posts here) claims hoops is well in the rear view in importance, significance, etc. in comparison to football. We should not be losing higher tier type guys to ND in hoops, let alone in our own backyard.

And, I highly doubt that ND is landing "good players" from other blue blood, next tier type schools, etc. backyards (like Syracuse), not lately at least, which is the broader scope.

The HUGE mistake the majors made (big east and acc) was letting Notre Dame into conference without football. always just assumed they give up that fat TV contract .
instead all we did was boost their other programs. once and for all my fat irish friends...

you're either all in or all out. that will doom their basketball and lacrosse programs forever.

He mentioned it on the first take interview with Stephen A. He said they were like 290th. The other interview he only said they were real bad.
