JB's Presser after EMU

I'm not saying for 40 minutes. But we shouldn't just leave it to our half court offense to win games.
It would be great to create more transition scoring opportunities. I just don't think the press will be able to do that most nights. The half court defense will have to generate those opportunities, and this team will have to do a better job at converting them into points.

Having Frank Howard and Pascal Chukwu turn into major contributors was a nice thing. So was recruiting Marek Dolazaj. We just focus on the bad things and think that that's all there is.

I agree this doesn't have the look of a team that can make a good tourney run. But the depth is not the problem. The NCAA's are not about depth. Everybody plays their top guys as much as they can. But is is about scoring and we aren't good at that. We have the defense to stay in games but you still have to out-score the other team. Against a strong defensive team we're the ones likely to wind up on the wrong end of a 47-62 score. That's why we need to press more and run more. We don't have the inside or outside scoring to win big games in the half court.

Good post. This is and will continue to be a poor shooting team (even from close range it seems), and winning in the ACC is about scoring. Our defense and rebounding will keep us in games, but not enough to survive the extended scoring droughts we are going to see against the better ACC defenses.

marek in the middle was awful. even against emu. imagine what the tar heels would do to him.
Marek has been good in the middle with his rebounding and his movement. He needs to get stronger but we have been almost plus 10 on the boards. What do you think has been awful

I will be overjoyed if we make the tournament. Coming into the year I was hoping we could keep the winning seasons streak going. Love the effort this team plays with and I love that everyone knew their roles so much more quickly this year.

Next year we should be good enough to make a run!
I’m right there with you. I had 500 in league as a roaring success

Can’t expect much from a team with seven players and no backup center. If they make the tourney and win a game, it’s a successful year. Is what it is.
Win a game in the tourney. The fact someone as negative as you would post this just shows how much better off we are than I ever expected to be.

gotta wonder if it's more than tendinitis
Its tendinitis but a very severe and unfortunately chronic case of it. He should be shut down and put under the care of a specialist as this condition isnt a one size fits all situation.

Have you been around the program the last few years. The worst is about the best we could hope for...

I wasn’t talking about this year. He said he might never play again. He can heal himself of tendinitis over the course of 6-8 months with proper treatment.

Its not the number of players or number of minutes. Those are red herrings. Its lack of a backup if chukwu gets in foul trouble. Thats the problem.

JB said they'd see what he could do on Friday in practice. Sounds like that's when the decision to red shirt will be made.

I always assume the worst with SU. We lost a player, a starter, on the first day of school and started the season with nine players. Now, assuming Sidibe is done, we have seven. One more injury and we have six.

Rest doesn’t seem to be helping Sidibe. He’s got bad knees. Maybe a year of rehab helps. But it’s a missed year of experience and playing time, which he desperately needs. Can’t risk the chance that he can’t play next year. SU needs to fill that void.

If it is just tendinitis, that's an overuse injury, and the best thing to do is extended rest...or play through the pain. It won't get better if you keep going. As a runner, I've been through this a time or two. You just have to shut it down for as long as it takes.

As of right now, we have three players coming in next year and we will probably lose Battle and OB to the NBA. We’re going to be in the same situation next year if we don’t bring in some more players. The transfer actually gives us 4, but the numbers are still below the scholarship limit.

I was with you until you lost it with the press talk. PC is now way too valuable for SU to put him in position to get additional fouls. Big drop off now.

This team has the makings of developing into a defensive force. Longest/tallest team in college and very athletic. Unfortunately, now probably one of the shallowest.

This team needs to slow things down and win a lot of rock fights. A very slow tempo helps a team with 6 players. The slow tempo will reduce fatigue and reduce foul problems. It may not be a popular sentiment, but this is what needs to be done, and what I believe will be done.

Highly unlikely
I agree. Just not seeing him even sniffing the first round right now, as raw as he is offensively.

I agree that you don’t need a deep team to make the NCAA tourney or advance. The issue is that you always need depth at CENTER because of foul trouble and centers are more likely to wear down. Chukwu can’t play 40 mpg. Having Sidibe able to play 20-25 mpg and be effective on both offense and defense was huge. It’s a big loss if he can’t play. (We could overcome losing Geno.)

You can’t press more unless you have some depth. Gotta have at least 7-8 guys and 2 centers.

I wonder if the loss of BS will impact that 'longest/tallest' team we had previously. I have to think it does.

we will have to be more careful in pressing now.. we used it to speed up games, if PC is the only center then we will only use it in desperation mostly now.
yeah I mean the fact that JB didn't use it once last night is a pretty good indication he'll only resort to it now if we're down big in the 2nd half

last night had we any kind of shooting we are up 10-12 at the half and never need it.. thats 3 halfs in a row we shut a team down and 2 of the 3 we had no offense either.. Oshea hasnt shot well since g-town, battle had 1 good spurt and PC missed 4 or 5 chippies.. it all adds up to a struggle to score.
