Jeff Nixon

I am going to say something that might be unpopular.. I think LQA is a good RB.. but not an elite one.. He doesnt have the burst around the corner elite RB's have... I think he has decent vision but not elite vision... and he doesnt have great "wiggle in the hole" BUT he has a ton of heart.. he has very good hands.. he can run with power for his size... He is a good back.. I trust him with the ball and i trust he will be where he needs to be on the field. I do not think he is an NFL back.. but he is a good college RB and that's all we need with KM at the helm.. We can win with him and Nixon in the backfield and that's all that really matters
Completely agree with you. I think he's solid but he isn't dynamic enough to be truly elite as a runner. There were a few plays in these first two matches that Sean Tucker scores TDs on.

His blocking is nails though.

Ok to nitpick little things but….

Almost 500 yards/game (4th most passing yards in country). More importantly, I actually have faith we can convert on 3rd and long. This is all after 2 games with a completely new staff and QB

The whole O staff is doing a very nice job so far.

I'm hoping the back up QB's are paying attention to McCord and learning what it takes to make themselves and their team better when they get a chance to get some snaps.

I liked how by going for it on 4th down in our own territory shows the team and coaches that they has faith in them. That was a big call to go for it when they had us in our own territory and still got it.

i also noticed a younger guy who always was behind Fran most of the game. I saw some of the coaches kidding around with him after as well. Is he the math guy that gives Fran the %’s or telling him what the numbers say as far as going for it or not? I thought he was asked a question during critical situations like this.
Saw that too. I think it was this guy, only wearing glasses. I’m guessing the binder was the scouting report on tendencies and such.

The binder he was carrying around was the CAI gamebook for when to go for it, kick FG, or punt. Must be Fran's numbers guy.

Love Nixon but would love to see some Willis out there

We don't usually get the athletes who can do-it-all AND come with breakaway speed and shiftiness. Even tucker, despite his elite speed and power (when not injured and favoring certain body parts), was mostly a one-cut back.

Bottom line, we have a good stable of backs, not the time to be greedy.

Hopefully, McCord stays upright and healthy; however, let's be real...The next starting QB isn't on the roster right now...Probably, transfer portals in and gives the 2025 QB a RS year...

Possibly. We haven't seen what Williams or Johnson can do yet though.

Agreed, not elite but very very good, and exactly what we need. His best asset is his pass catching as well, which I think will be very important later in the season.

I hope Nixon can figure out a way to scheme up some plays to help this offense because Pitt just showed everyone how to dismantle our offense. I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner. All we have a short throws/out routes that are begging to be overplayed for picks. This is why we have been dominating time of possession even with being so pass heavy.

The offensive line doesn't provide time to allow plays to develop nor can they open up holes for the running game.

The receivers aren't quick enough to allow Kyle to see deep shots open up before the pocket closes in.

Kyle does tend to lock in on receivers so if defenses focus on defending 10 yards and in, they can jump routes

This is not a multidimensional offense and that opens itself up to the kind of outcome like what we witnessed last night when going against a competent defensive coach .

Hard to scheme against a d line who was just walking by the oline and giving zero time to throw.

You are right tho, every team is going to play 8 in the box and sit on every 8 yards since we lack any true ability to block.

Our run game is abysmal. The fact that those are the 5 best for us is strange. I feel like we are so unathletic, and they are supposedly big and can’t run block. Worst of both worlds…

I actually think our coaching staff has been solid on how to scheme away from having this be a deterrent for the entire year.

Nixon is a future head coach. He knows what he is doing. Yesterday was the perfect storm. Other teams might try the same approach, but I don't think they will have the same results. Yesterday Pitt did an excellent job but if some of the tipped balls hadn't gone their way, I believe that we would have been in the game until the end. SU was just off. It's one thing to know what to do it's another to do it. Next game will be different without it being different.

I think we would have been better served to start running the ball. McCord was obviously being harassed every drop back. He was rattled. He didn’t help the online by spinning right into sacks atleast a couple times. Coverage was super tight.
They knew we were passing 80% of the time. We didn’t do anything to keep defense honest.
That falls on Nixon.
He should have been able to make adjustments during the game. We needed to run to keep them from being so aggressive on pass plays. Pitch it to Pena out of backfield. Smash Willis in the middle. Let Allen run off tackle.
I’m just hoping everyone(coaches and players) are learning from this. Going forward we need better effort from both.

Hope we keep him wouldnt be surprised if it's a Tony White situation where bigger programs are interested. His kid is definitely getting a medical redshirt right?

Really tough to adjust a reslly bad oline. Its hard to scheme when we cant even 1 on 1 block someone head up. We have no dog on the line. No guy and i mean not 1 has drove someone off the ball like they love the game of football. Oline is down and dirty way of life that u have to know u aint pretty or u dont get accolades and u still kick the mans ass in front of u. BUT U WILL NOT WIN WITHOUT IT PERIOD ANDIM NOT SURE COACHES TRULY KNOW THIS.

Michael Hay would be the best player on this line, and he is exactly the type of player Shu is talking about. Year after year we have a weak offensive line and I can’t understand it. Are we the only school that doesn’t push anabolic steroids? Seems like it.
