Jesse Edwards: Timberwolves

There is one fundamental difference between Jesse and Joe. In Joe's case it seemed like a mutual decision for him to move on once JJ came onboard. Not that we wouldn't have taken Joe back for a fifth year with open arms, but his role would have diminished somewhat. In Jesse's case, he was being fully counted on to be a key piece, perhaps THE key piece to last year's team and gave every indication that he was looking forward to finishing his career in Syracuse. The West Virginia poaching began before he was entered in the portal and Syracuse was blindsided by it with no real opportunity to backfill with a player of comparable skills.
I cheered for Joe when he returned to the Dome in the uniform of an opponent. Don;t think I would have done the same for Jesse.

The problem I have with Joe is he got in the best shape of his career for his 1 year at Clemson and it clearly paid dividends for him and his team on the court.

Why did he have to leave cuse to do that?

Having the best Joe at Syracuse would have been nice.

It always goes that way. Contract years. Guys who are let go and go somewhere else.
Joe was wrongfully maligned for much of his SU career. I am sure it was also a bit of an ”I’ll show them.”

Maybe he's not maligned as much (I agree it was too much and a function of JB playing him out of his best position) if he gets in shape at SU.

I don’t think we would have gotten the best Joe with Judah playing next to him. Clemson had the right mix of guys. Judah moving on and adding a true PG next to Joe with getting Jesse back would have been a much better all round result.

Might not have just been Joe. S&C may have played a role.

Jesse made his NBA debut last night. Only saw the last 2 mins and had no stats. He had been averaging 12&7 in the G league while missing a few games with a minor ankle injury.
Claim another Orange in the NBA!

Is there any actually evidence that he was in better shape at Clemson?

WVU alumni Jesse Edwards with an NBA game under his belt!

He wanted less than the amount paid to Lampkin. People here claimed he was "overpaid" but the truth was he would have been worth every penny and that was clear as day in real time.

Move Justin Taylor to the bench, Maliq to his natural PF position and Jesse at C, and Red very well might have made the tournament. Would have made a difference in the amount of leash he's getting.

While I'm at it, I don't buy that his dad is some villain, despite the re-dealing that went down. The rabbit has the gun now, and there's no hunting regulations, so this is how it is now. Jesse said in an interview it seemed like Syracuse wasn't really into NIL. Seemed true to me at the time, and maybe now with all we know, more people will see his side.

Ask WVU fans if he was worth every penny.

As we sit here today my perspective completely shifted to actually siding with Jesse. He would have forfeited hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars to stay here. I am sure he would have preferred to stay here if he felt he was being compensated in alignment with his market rate. We just were a step behind.

It was, and still is, all about the money for Dad and Jesse. And that's all I will say about it.

What Red needs to do is make sure guys stay, Brown, Jesse, Freeman, Kadary and figure out what it takes. I dont like hearing we will see, these kids have options. Is that how you want sales people in your org to act?

Jesse agreed to come back to cuse for 400k. WVU offered him 750k. His dad made him take it. Jesse still wanted to come back to cuse. His dad is the villain here. Jesse is a tremendous kid

Jesse was GUTTED not to come back to Cuse
Jesse was 23 years old when that all went down.

TWENTY THREE.

At that age his father can't make him do a thing.

My oldest is almost 22. If there was something she really wanted to do, that I was against, I'd expect her to tell me to go screw.

Technically you're right, but family dynamics are different in every family, and coming from a different country likely means different cultural dynamics too.

Whatever. He's an adult. Oh but he was so sad. Boo hoo.

Jesse gave us 4 years. He left to get more money after graduating. In my early 20's i was all in for ====> Show Me the Money.

Yes I wanted him to stay and take us Dancing. But he gave us 4 years. Not sure we will get that again from a player of that level.
