Jesse returning

This is gonna sound harsh but we need JBA to move on and do something with Chaz’s scholarships. At this point they are just give away sand we need to use them. We could use them for a legit transfer PG and a legit transfer forward. We are still not a great team if both those scholarships are tied up with those guys and we can’t use them to improve the roster. Harsh but it’s the reality and neither one of them will ever contribute or play meaningful minutes here

Only if we have better players lined up to fill those vacancies.

Otherwise, what's the point?

Chaz didn't have a single D-1 scholarship offer. You don't think Syracuse could pull any random that's in the top 300 of rankings and that'd be a better use of a scholarship than ol Chasterfield?

What I "think" is different from there being a player lined up.

If it's Mintz, great -- but it doesn't look promising for him anymore. If there's some portal guard -- terrific. But it doesn't make sense to clear space without someone lined up to fill the spot.

I'd rather have JBA / Chaz if for no other reason than practice purposes than have the scholarship unfilled. As for "any random that's in the top 300," quit talking about it and go do it.

You also can’t just take a scholarship away.

Chaz would need to choose to leave.

If everyone comes back including Cole we will have no room to bring anyone in.

Everyone is assuming we will lose 1/2 players but I’m not sure that will happen

I think ideally next year, if we want to play at a really high level the roster would break down like this:

PG: Portal or Mintz, Sy, Copeland
SG: Girard, Taylor
SF: Cole, Bunch
PF: Portal(slasher), Benny, Brown
C: Jesse, Frank, Carey

This would necessitate Owens and JBA moving on, of course. We need to add some toughness and experience.

Do I think this is likely? Probably not. Just my two cents.

I don't think that is accurate -- because he was a walk-on granted a scholarship because we had one open to spare / use.

Walk-ons have gotten scholarships for that reason many times over the years, but it is contingent upon availability. It's a different situation than someone who is recruited as a scholarship player.

That is huge, enormous tremendous news.! Jesse Edwards was a diamond in the rough that as soon as I saw him playing I could see something special about this kid and sure enough now I'm not calling myself a prophet or anything I'm just saying I got it right here and the fact that he is coming back to this team there is some optimism but of course you got to be cautious. One thing I will say is we will look more like a Syracuse University basketball team much more athletic and a team that opponents when they play have a lot to prepare for

Or, that he’d go the “explore the draft” route, and then choose to go elsewhere if his prospects weren’t what he’d hoped to hear.
See: Q.

I’m absolutely thrilled Jesse is returning!!

But - let’s not act like he couldn’t have gone to pretty much any other program and started,
and be playing somewhere that’s ranked all year long, a shoo-in to play in the Tournament, and not have a crotchety old coach who throws him under the bus in every presser.
I have to smile when some of you talk about how badly he was talked about by JB.

JB said he needed to get stronger. He needed to learn to not take cheap fouls, reaching around and over. He also made a point of saying how much Jesse meant to the team.

Those are not a knock on his ability, they are simply facts that I'm sure Jesse agreed with.

And Mom and Dad aren't going to be upset because this isn't participation basketball where everybody gets to play.

I really feel that next season Syracuse Athletics meaning The Big Theirs going to be a turning point in the right direction!

Obviously we all know about the upgrades on the staff in football and in my opinion the effect that it has had

in recruits, attracting new recruits, new areas and just a sense of respect. A sign we brought In the right guys!

Basketball, where Jesse returning usually when we have a big time Big men like him for incense we play very well and if these players that we have play up to their potential then we could have something! Also we

will be in my opinion Syracuse basketball again which I mean athletes that can play basketball you know jump out jump out of the gym all that so we shall see I am very optimistic but cautious at the same time.

Lacrosse is very simple you know I don't really care what the record is this season because I mean the record it I mean the schedule is insane! That is got to be the toughest schedule any lacrosse team has ever

faced but you know the talent just isn't t up to par to what Syracuse lacrosse team is known n Gary gait is already underway and in my opinion ad I'm sure I'm not alone that he will get it done. Thank you

I don’t think it matters with the legislation that was passed a few years ago

However, I’m not 100% sure.

If that’s the case, it certainly would allow us to free up a spot

That will be next year. He has 2 to play

Jessie will be the best big in the ACC next year. How many years ago did SU go on a summer trip? Next summer would be ideal.

Italy in August 2019.

Can't travel again until 2023.

LOL If we can't get two kids that are better than those two players than we better just close up shop. And I mean it.
No one said "if we can't." I'm just asking -- who are those players going to be if not mintz?

Instead of hypotheticals, who specifically? Because I know what the coach said about the transfer portal.

I am very confidant that we can do better than JBA and Chaz. Nice kids, I'm sure. I'm not a staff coach. I don't know the names of kids I would recruit. It is unreasonable to ask me for names. We will have guys out there better. As for practice, we will have kids to practice against. Start with the 5 freshman.

This conversation reminds me of the old Steve Martin skit, "How to be a millionaire and never have to pay taxes."

Step 1: get a million dollars...

I'm confident we can recruit better players too, But the question-- which isn't unreasonable to ask, at all, given how things are unfolding -- is who? If we aren't going to actively recruit the portal, and we've already brought in a five-player freshman class, and if we miss out on the one HS prospect we are actively pursuing (Mintz), then who?

And if we don't have anyone lined up, then it's asinine to talk about cutting players to free up scholarships. That's all.
