JG3…

Meh. Torrance played good in the first and and should have played more for Buddy who had zero legs today.

Joe has been really good. He scored like 10 of our last 12 points when nobody else could buy a bucket.

Glad he hit some shots for us but not his fault he's been shoehorned into something he's not.

Using a football / baseball position metaphor - Joe's position is "basketball player" - like Reggie Jackson's position "at bat"

Joe was good at the end of the game, but his +/- for the game was 1. I would suggest no one else could buy a bucket because we played our main scorers 40 mins

symir’s +/ was 9 in 10 mins.

I know the numbers, but Buddy had his worst game since Duke and was forcing it late. He should have sat some today instead of Joe in the second half IMO.

We know what JB is going to do with the bench now so I guess I need to stop banging my head, but I want Girard in at the end mainly because of his free throw shooting.

So tired of this redundant crap. Open your eyes. He is a very good point guard against those teams who don’t have a lock down man defender. He is inconsistent and his judgment is not perfect. Gerry couldn’t play against the BC guards who could shut him down. Edelin treated them like kids on the playground. I like what Symir brings off the bench. He is just short of an offensive void on a team which cannot have such a void over sustained periods of time. Girard has adapted increasingly well to a new role and brings a lot to the table to balance his deficiencies.

NO! He’s bad and he’s needs to leave syracuse! Who are you, Joe’s mom?

No doubt. Don’t disagree that some Symir and Joe would have been nice as well. Maybe without Buddy on the floor for 5 mins, we could highlight Cole more

I wish a few people would recognize this difference.

+/- is just a dumb bball stat, it make sense in hockey but not bball..

you play 3 min and score every time down court an easy layup 5 times for 10 pts.. then the other team goes down and scores 4 times but all 3s thats 12.. your -2.. did you play poorly?

you can also play poorly but be in the 1-1 and get fouled 3 times and score 6 pts late in a game. and the other team misses threes and be +6. doesnt mean you did anything right.

Agree , he should have not been taken out, G3 slows the team down to a stale offence
Seems to me this is a narrative which the evidence wholly refutes.
Top 30 in offensive efficiency
Top 25 in scoring

As JB says, it’s the defense. So the coaching question becomes given the offensive loss of production from the bench guys, how much offense do you sacrifice to marginally improve the defense? NCAA Basketball Stats - NCAA BB Team Points per Game | TeamRankings.com
That’s why the starters play so many minutes.
I will add this as a one-off: man,
I love Benny Williams. No excuses. Recognizes (at least publicly) that his production is the issue, not his minutes.
In the “me first, right now” world of college sports, the kid is incredibly refreshing and I am rooting like heck for him.

I dont buy the O void. Symir opens up the floor with his ability to beat pressure.
When Joe faces pressure half of the shot clock is gone.
Joe shot the ball well but hes playing out of position. The problem isn't Joe or Symir is Jims lack of pulling Buddy when he is having an off night.

I understand your pov theoretically. However, having five guys to worry about offensively is just tougher to coach against. Also, the notion that an elite scorer is having an off night is best reserved for the post game box score. You never know when the switch turns. Your analysis also ignores the very special dimes Joe drops. He sees the floor well.

I watched Steph Curry shoot 5-13 in 29 minutes last night in a game they lost to the Jazz by 26 points. Steph just couldn't get it going, but anyone watching the game, knew that any given time he could go on a run. Coaches respect great shooters and instill in their defenses the importance of never leaving a great shooter open.

VT typically runs relatively small lineups. If that’s the case I’d like to see how Buddy, Joe and Symir do together on the floor Saturday.

joe didnt play well for long stretches of the game

8 foul shots or whatever at the end doesnt change that

that three in the corner was awesome...but it was just one play

he really needs to look for other players besides buddy

Yeah, because he doesn’t do that.

Does Steph play the entire game?

Joe has been good this year.
Buddy doesn’t sit.

Being threat is one thing but having a rotation isn’t a lot to ask and our guys aren’t even the top at their positions in the conference or country like Steph is at his.

I tend to agree - if Sy played major minutes teams would just not guard him.
