It seems like the job he has done with this group gets down-graded in favor of some coaches who have produced winning seasons against lower pre-season expectations.

Personally, I am amazed that this group has had this level of success. I knew we would be good, but only one dubious loss against a tough BE schedule ? Clearly exceeding expectations. It is a team that has depth, but really no elite level takeover the game types of stars. It wins with cohesiveness, grit, and D. All characteristics instilled by Jimmy & the staff. It is so difficult for a highly rated team to exceed what people expect. This team has accomplished that.

Now the final verdict for this team will depend upon how it does in the Dance, but in terms of regular seasonn accomplishments, I think Jimmy is deserving of Coach of the Year.

As nice as that would be, I have doubts that Boeheim will even win BE Coach of the Year.
It's unfortunate, because he's changed his 35-year-old ways to accomodate all the talent on this team.
But barring an end of season collapse, Notre Dame's Mike Brey may get that honor.
He's found a way to win despite losing his best player before the season.

To me there are only 4 names that should be in this conversation in no particular order.

JB
Cal (yes I know barf but numbers are numbers)
Haith
Self

Screw Brey and ND. They have 9 loses. Coaches dont win the national coach of the year with 9 loses.

I hate ND as much as the next guy... but what Brey has done with his talent level far exceeds what Cal does buying an NBA roster. Couldn't agree more on the others.

I would give it to Brey or Haith.

Certainly deserving as you suggest...especially considering the off court issues/distractions to boot.

Its Frank Heath at Missouri or somebody like Brusier Flint at Drexel or Bill Self with how much Kansas lost.
