John and Fran need to go

They are a dead program. But the point is, they even got a former NFL guy and a former major college coach. Fire the guy after a 10-3 season see what you get.
Oh my bad - we agree then about it being absurd to have this convo.

Yeah Fran needs to go because he’s on a losing streak after his QB tore his ACL lmao give me a break. You guys are BEYOND ridiculous. We could lose the next 3 (and we probably will) and he’d STILL have a winning record here. The last time a HC did that here in his first two seasons was 35 years ago…

Say what you really wanna say cause it’s clearly something deeper smh

The only revelation is the staff needs to try and scout better fits for the offense at QB.

They did not do a good job there. Everything else is whiny and useless.

Okay. Who exactly would take the Syracuse football job after we fire a coach that just last year went 10-3. At Syracuse. I'll answer that. No one any good. We would look like fools. We can't keep firing coaches and think it is all them. There is no question in my mind that if Angeli doesn't get hurt, we win at least 6 games this year and that was about as good as it could get. No matter if Saban was coaching here. Now, Fran has a lot to learn about being a head coach. I won't argue against that. But the single most important thing, he is very good at. Getting good players. He can learn the rest. Someone above said, let's get a guy that only gets 3 star kids but coaches them up. That, would be the end of the program. Why? Because change is coming. Either we are taken to the new world or we will be left behind. And a 3 star program is 100% going to be left behind. Right now, we have the A.D. who has enough respect and connections to get us looked at for the next wave coming. Hopefully, Fran makes that leap and we make it all the way. Next year will be telling.
The single biggest issue with this program is talent, both high end impact guys and 1-1xx.

Fran continues to address that issue successfully. Everything else igoes towards getting his 10000 hrs on other tasks

Hey when they get bounced from BC hire them on.

Also known as a Soil-Transmitted Helminth - at least that is what it feels like

Intellectual curiosity was developed during my years at Syracuse I am forever grateful. This type of STH, I would certainly like to avoid. I almost feel like a BA parallel was coming on i'm done with that, Not worth it

John has absolutely done a horrible job. Keeping and extending Dino. Hiring autry over a national search. Choosing Fran over bob. This is what we will get next year.

If he wasn’t an alum, he wouldn’t have lasted. Fran preaches accountability. Where is it? We have a lax player playing division one at qb and starting. Accountability? We are LAST in run defense. We have had 3 delay of game penalties today. 0 completions in the first half. Yes, you read that correctly. Keeping Robinson as the d coordinator? Did I mention we are last in the acc in run defense?
I remember my first beer.

I don't know. McCord and Angeli were pretty good fits for their offense don't you think?
Just meant the QB room as a whole. You're 100% right but having all whiffs behind that is not great.

John and Fran need to go...to the CFP next year or a very decent bowl!!! LGO!!!

Were they wiffs? I mean Collins maybe but we’re trying to stick him into a pro style qb scheme and he isn’t.

Carney is the same way.

Filardi fits the scheme but is a walk on true freshman.

Jakari is left over from Dino and doesn’t fit the system.

I'm honestly nitpicking. I have no issues. Angeli got hurt and it derailed things. Simple as that. Get him healthy and we're back in business.

If Steve Angeli remained a healthy QB this thread would not exist.

Changing this threads themes here's something different:

The game was well out of reach. Yet Fran Brown still didn’t feel comfortable with how the tides turned while quarterback Steve Angeli stood on the sideline.

The Notre Dame transfer continued his gaudy start to the 2025 season on Friday against Colgate, tossing five touchdowns and 331 passing yards through three quarters. He already tied the Syracuse football single-game passing touchdowns record. So with the Orange up 45-3 at the 9:13 mark of the third quarter, Angeli got the signal his day was done — there was nothing left to show.

LSU transfer Rickie Collins, who lost Syracuse’s offseason quarterback competition, entered the game with 4:36 left in the third. Three pass attempts into Collins’ long-awaited debut, he threw an interception, ending his premiere drive with a thud. The Raiders scored to end the third quarter — serving as back-to-back Colgate touchdowns — and SU’s lead was cut to 45-17.

To begin the fourth quarter, an unexpected but familiar navy blue No. 9 jersey trotted out to lead Syracuse’s offensive huddle.

“It was just something that was needed for our football team for us to continue to grow as a team and grow our culture,” Brown said of putting Angeli back in the game. “Every time you want to make sure you’re implementing something, you want to have the leader do it.”

Brown wants the Orange to stick the dagger into teams they should beat easily, and when he saw their advantage slipping on Friday, he didn’t hesitate to send Angeli back in. On Angeli’s final drive, he led Syracuse on a nine-play, 71-yard drive, which was capped off by him punching in a one-yard sneak at the goal line. That made it six total touchdowns for Angeli, joining Jim Brown and Eric Dungey as SU’s only players to do the same in one game.

Angeli’s night for the record books highlighted Syracuse’s (2-1, 0-0 Atlantic Coast) 66-24 victory over Colgate (0-3, 0-0 Patriot League). Though it came versus a Football Championship Subdivision opponent, Angeli’s performance signified his development in mastering SU offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon’s scheme.

In his first year starting under center, Angeli is in midseason form.

“It’s a lot of good stuff that we put on tape,” he said. “So I’m excited to build off of it.”

Angeli closed his night with 382 passing yards, five touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. SU’s head coach was in awe when he heard Angeli’s stats entered Jim Brown territory.

“Just the fact that you said Jim Brown in there, that’s amazing to say that,” Brown said to a reporter during his postgame press conference. “Anybody that joins anything with Jim Brown should just sit back and be thankful. Syracuse football is Jim Brown.”

Through three contests with the Orange, Angeli’s numbers lie at 1,072 air yards, eight passing touchdowns and two interceptions.

After Friday’s game ended — albeit with an entire college football weekend slate left to play — Angeli led the nation in passing yards. His passing totals place him directly into the Kyle McCord stratosphere.

McCord averaged 367.6 yards per game in his record-setting 2024 season, where he broke the ACC’s single-year passing yards mark with 4,779. Expectations were thrust upon whoever McCord’s successor would be to match the Ohio State transfer’s potent campaign at SU.

Thus far, Angeli has experienced a similar jump in production under Nixon and Co.

“It’s awesome to hear that, but I’m really just thankful for coach Nixon, coach (Nunzio Campanile) for what they’ve been able to do and just bringing out who I am as a player,” Angeli said of his six touchdowns. “I’m just eternally grateful for them and for these guys on the team — there’s so many playmakers everywhere.”

Angeli’s biggest connection of the night was Darrell Gill Jr., who exploded for six catches, 152 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone. He also hit redshirt freshman Jaylan Hornsby for an electric 25-yard touchdown and true freshman Darien Williams for a 26-yard end zone strike.
Great in-depth post

I don’t follow recruiting as close as many, but I just looked at the top-50 Syracuse recruits “all-time” on 247 (all-time appears to be since 2000). 27 of the top-50 are guys Fran has committed or currently on the roster that he signed in the last 22 months.

So in 25 years, more than half of the top-50 guys have come/committed here in the past 2 years.
