John Gruden and Greg Olsen Didn't Like Fran Brown's Antics

Completely agree. There's a lot of reasons he does stuff. He's obviously calculated and shrewd about what he does. But from what I saw watching the bench on Saturday, the entire coaching staff was livid with kids for missed assignments and mental errors for much of the game. They were sleep walking. I'm curious how much of this is youth / missing key leaders or just not having the right leaders step up for the team yet. Hope they learn from it.
to me it’s the lack of having loud leadership voices on the team. Need a Marlowe

JHC.The first year I played junior hockey we had 13 rookies on the team. When we had a performance like that, coach made us do sprints in full gear after the game until we dropped. It lighted a fire under or A$$. We went on to win the Championship that year, with 13 rookies. It brought a smile to my face to see Fran do the same. Accountability!!

My high school golf team ran sprints up the hill at our home course because we messed around and ended up losing a match (plus other dumb kid things of course). We were playing golf! Idk if it made us better per-say but it definitely stopped us from screwing around.

I guess my point is that with all the youth on the team, this is a wake up call that you aren’t in high school anymore. You’re playing big time athletics and you better wake up and do your job!

If your coach really wanted to drive home the point, he would have made you and your teammates unpop your collars!!!

Assuming they were in Atlanta last Friday night, this was theit 1st Friday on campus with all the students back….half the team was likely at a rager till 4am.

They certainly played like it.

They ran not to make them better, but because Fran KNOWS they ARE better!!

When your lawn gets a weed, you kill it at 1st sight, you don’t wait till the whole lawn is ruined.

And speaking of Lawns….all of you get the fluck off mine!!! Some of you need to be on read only with no ability to post.

As a coach, or a teacher, or a parent, this is the crux of the matter and critical to DART. Many will say, it's a win, be happy. And I'm happy...or, is it "relieved?" But to get better, to sustain improvement in the pursuit of excellence, and to be able to win when perhaps we shouldn't (on paper), then this needs to happen. That's my opinion, at least.
And there's a difference between how fans should approach the result of a game and the team. Fans should take some measure of satisfaction with a win. The players should take satisfaction with high effort and execution.

The team always stays off campus the night before all home games at a hotel, to keep them away from all that stuff. They take the busses directly from hotel to the quad walk. I wish it were as simple as they were hung over lol. They really played a bad 55 minutes which led to said sprints.

I don't think it's just for media attention. I think he wants to draw attention from parents of recruits, potential donors, etc.

I know in this case, he did tell his team they'd be doing it if they didn't perform to their standards, and he had to hold to it. But I also think he wants to attract an audience of people who can help elevate this program.

I also think he was upset with his team's performance (and probably himself and staff as well) for most of the game and wants to send that message that it needs to be better.
agreed

better to go back to the locker room . no showers . watch the tape. grade it . and then make them run after the place is empty. (BTW bad coaching decisions cost us 8 easy points. )

Dusty and Danny on the morning college sports radio show both loved it.

One thing is for sure, Fran knows how to get attention.

As an aside, Greg was the analyst on the 49er broadcast yesterday - he is a very good analyst.
He may be the best one on TV. I think he may have won an emmy for it this past year. Light years ahead of Fox's #1 Mr.T.B. Olsen totally called it on the SF-Seattle game yesterday when he said Seattle should have gone for it on 4th &1 late in a tie game instead of kicking a FG. He said it might come back to bite them, and it did. SF then scored a TD for the win. Maybe if he'd been calling the Ravens-Bills game last night he would have said, as I said to myself, that the Ravens were showing signs of blowing the game when they failed to down the punt inside the Bills' 1 yd line in the 4th qtr. on a dumb play. And I've been a Ravens fan since day 1 and former STH. Off the topic, but what they did last night reminded me of the NYY blowing the 3-0 lead in the 2004 ALCS. It took years for the NYY to recover & likely will the Ravens also.

I learn something almost every time he discusses a play.

I get the 1980 Olympic team comparison, but that's not really the best the reference. They didn't do all those Herbies purely out of punishment for playing poorly. It was an exercise for the assistant coach Craig Patrick. You have to put it all into context which gets lost when the mythology gets built up over the decades. The game in question didn't even have the whole team available, several players including Jim Craig were resting. They had played even worse a week before against a team from Finland where they got blown out. Yes, it was partly a result of Brooks being upset with their effort but it was mainly to throw Craig Patrick into the fire and make him switch from being the good cop to Brooks' bad cop and solidify his standing as Brooks equal. Craig wasn't that far removed from being a player, it was essentially his rite of passage to become a full coach.

no kidding. i hate being that guy because the crowd that stayed to the end was great...but we could use some more energy from our fanbase besides on key third downs. The Miami atmosphere is what I dream of week in and week out. But I'm also insane and love yelling...
I’ll be there with my friend his dad Friday. All we do is yell most plays, especially on 3rd downs on D. Going to the dome for football has always been a psychedelic experience for me. I’m 26 but the coolest wins I’ve been to in no order… Miami 2024, Purdue 2022, Clemson 2018. Go CUSE!!!!

Another thing I would like to add is Fran’s right. The more we win the more fans will show up and get loud. But us psychopaths like me and you will be there regardless.
