Judah 33rd in BR draft update

I still don't understand the weighting on "individual stats" versus "team performance", but - yes, as a freshman - he was focused on "him", not on "team".
He was focusing on “him” because the team didn’t do well? What kind of bizarre take is that? What if the rest of the players aren’t very good? A disastrous take.

The quality is called “Leadership.”
As a PG, one is expected to lead a team.
It’s not a bizarre take. That is an attack on me.

I really don’t understand the vitriol here. It is offensive and frustrating.

The pay isn't great if you're on a g league contract.

But if you're on an NBA deal as a 1st or 2nd round pick, that's what you get paid.
Bazely is the only G league guy I’ve somewhat followed. I was surprised he started as strong as he did - or got there in a year or two - but now appears relegated to a sub role.

So long term - will G league guys have similar careers to first round picks?

You have to think of the Gleague more like the 40 man roster in MLB.

Leadership. Name another “bizarre take”. It’s your opinion, unless you have an inside track to an NBA executive.

When did you chat with Judah on what his focus was? Your bizarre take was in assessing his mindset.. I have no interest in re litigating your previous posts. I'll just say more than a few have been puzzling and lacking proper context to support them.

Also calm down- it's a message board and people will disagree with your views.

I would not bet against Judah. Always been underrated yet his numbers are just as good or better than guys projected ahead of him. Went head to head with Keyonte George, Jalen Hood Chifino, Jaden Bradley, JJ Starling and gave them some work. Had 30 vs IMG in hs and was second team all NIBC coming in tied for scoring with Dariq Whitehead. Was 3rd in scoring among freshmen this year behind Brandon Miller and Bryce Sensabugh. All ACC and honorable mention all ACC (should have been 2nd or 3rd team) are post season awards earned. Had 9 games of 20 pts + and a double double vs Georgetown. He plays hard, is relentless, tough as nails, and improved exponentially from season start to season end. Was 6th in conference in assists, 8th in scoring. Has high IQ, plays the right way, and has ton of confidence. Wouldn’t bet against him. He would have place his name in the draft without getting some early feedback.
Here's the thing you need to understand. People aren't finding faults in his game because they don't think he's good. They're hoping to find reasons that lead to him returning for another year because we all know he's good and we need him to stay if we're going to be a top team next year.

For a decade we've seen a number of average college players leave us because they had great pro potential even if it wasn't developed yet. All the while, some schools have found the sweet spot where they recruit guys that are great in college while having that one flaw that keeps them from making the jump really early. Those programs have been able to remain consistently relevant while we've faded. People are trying to find that flaw in Judah, regardless of whether or not it's actually there, because we need him, not because we doubt him.

His shot has improved consistently. I hope he stays but find it unlikely. He's going to do well.

He honestly only shot well for the last month of the season. Same with Benny and Chris, last month-and-a-half, maybe.

His film looks great, but I'm not sure he's physical enough compared to other guys looking to be drafted, and I'm not sure he can shoot a high enough percentage of one-on-one contested threes, not open threes after ball movement. I think it's going to be tough for him.

Look at guys like the guards who play for Houston, Creighton or San Diego State, they're all over you, and they want to make the NBA just as badly as you do. I just don't think he's physically ready yet.

What is better playing in college or the G League experience? Don’t know how the NIL compensation matches up with the G-League salaries, but going to college is an incentive to improve on skills.

Im not Judah but if I had a choice being selected in the 40s and playing in the NBA developmental leagues vice continuing one more year in college, ( would continue in college.

Here’s another angle: risk of declaring now is he might get that first contract but be out in 3 years. What if Adam can promise him comparable money if he sticks around for next year, his flaws get exposed, and he has to return for a 3rd year?

Also, don't know how much it matters to Judah, but he'll have 20-30,000 watching him at Syracuse. These G league teams barely have any fans and no one follows them. Syracuse will be on ESPN-Who's watching the G-league?

People say this every year but it doesn’t matter. Sure the Dome is cool, but I highly doubt that increases his chances to stay. And it shouldn’t

That's a good way to look at it. Just not sure how it compares with AA/AAA, which have been slimmed down (at least High-A through AA have).

Adam will be moving out of these sentences and a new Adam will be moving in

If attendance mattered as much as fans wished, we’d have much higher rated classes the last ~10 years.

It does matter. It's one of the major reasons why Penn State and Michigan always recruit well in Football and we recruited well in Basketball until our HC was less engaged in recruiting. Recruits mention it all the time. When you add it with some NIL, I think it's a lot more exciting than playing in the G league in front of 1,000 people.

Yeah, I think it’s one of those things that matter but doesn’t actually matter. It’s one of those nice perks that goes along with committing to a school. FB and BB is different IMO. We like to say for FB, what WR wouldn’t want to play in a dome instead of an outside stadium like most B10 stadiums. Or a QB. Do the fans matter, sure. Does a 4-5 star recruit pick a school solely b/c of that…… no. It’s a factor that’s nice to throw out once a decision is made but as I said.

If it was such a big deal why hasn’t BB recruiting been better? It’s not ultimately a a deciding factor. It’s a nice perk but if it helped with recruiting how could the best place to play in CBB not have better recruiting. Because it’s not the factor we like to think it is.

It certainly means a lot to the schools, because that's where much of the budget for the AD's office and all these non-revenue sports is coming from.

What is better for your brand?

Playing on a potential Top 20 team in the Dome on national TV or playing in front of 742 fans in Oshkosh?

He comes back next year with NIL $$$ and becomes a first or second team All ACC player and a year more mature and closer to graduation is a viable, smart option.

Too many kids get sucked into short term gains vs long term gains.

I’m not entirely sure what this is asking, but most first rounders are spending the beginning of their career in the G-League nowadays. It’s pretty rare at this point for rookies to step into significant playing time on their NBA team immediately, and with most of the G-League orgs being close to their affiliate now, they get to practice against the NBA players and then get tons of playing time in the G-League.

The issue is there’s a world in which he does all that and still doesn’t improve his draft stock or even sees it decline.

Just my relatively educated guess here, but If he’s drafted in the top 40, he’ll likely be paid more in the NBA than what we’ll realistically offer. The later in the top 40 it gets, the more likely it is that we can make the money close enough that he decides it’s worth the risk to return to school.

That’s why this period where he’s getting feedback from teams will be so important. I think most teams and most in the media expected him to spend two years here so it’s possible the draft stock that we’ve been reading about in 2023 drafts is not accurate and he was already basically on the fringe of making more money where he was projected to be drafted than he’d make here.

Anyone who thinks the coaching/facilities and opportunities in college is better than the NBA and G League is crazy. Here is the staff of the Pistons, a team Buddy plays for and Troy Weaver is the GM. There are nine coaches just for player development. Their G League team is the Motor City Cruise also based in Detroit, so in addition to their couple coaches, including Rob Murphy their GM, they also are under the tutelage of the Pistons staff.

As good as college is, nothing will ever compare to the resources that the NBA has. That's why you regularly see guys you might not have ever heard of breakthrough with solid games and careers in the NBA.
