Judah a second round pick from BR

MCW had the benefit of being on a terrible team, it hid his shortcomings for a couple years. After that though, his career was a pretty slide down to mediocrity. Now, rookie of the year and 7 years in the NBA is nothing to scoff at, but his shooting (or lack there of) stopped him from being truly special
Yep, his shot has held him back for sure, but he still stuck and that's nothing to scoff at like you said.

I have to somewhat disagree there. I believe injuries derailed his promising career. He was constantly injured. Even with his atrocious shooting %’s in college he was a high pick. He also kept getting opportunities despite his shooting woes. He was very good at everything else that made up for the shooting.

Had some serious shoulder issues that messed with his shot mechanics. He was a decent shooter coming out of high school and it progressively got worse.

Not entirely true. Ever heard of Russell Westbrick? Even high picks like Jaden Ivey can’t shoot.
Mintz has the athleticism, speed, and playmaking ability to make up for not being a great shooter. His bread and butter is taking it to the rim and getting to the foul line.
I could definitely see him as a late first round pick. He’s really good.
Russell Westbrook came into the league in 2008, he also shot 35% from 3 at UCLA, a lot better than the 20% clip Judah is sitting at right now. Jaden Ivey shot 36% from 3 his second year then went to the league.

Yeah and Mintz shot 46% from 3 his Sr year of high school.
The statement was that you can’t make it in the NBA without being able to shoot. Westbrook and Ivey were my examples of guys who have terrible shooting % and still make it. Several others as well.
I believe Mintz can still be drafted in the first and be good in the NBA despite not being a dead eye shooter.

Even though Mintz is shooting at a poor percentage from 3 this season, to my eye is jumper doesn't look broken... I think that provides some hope. Wouldn't surprise me if those percentages go up significantly if he plays another year here.

What are his NBA skills? He’s quick, that’s not nearly enough. He may be a second round pick but I can’t see him sticking around long.

If I was advising him and if he is showing up on mock drafts as he continues to have a very strong season, I would recommend he go to the tryouts and get feedback before he officially gets an agent. NBA drafts on potential with guys like Judah.

So from high school to ACC ball his 3 point percentage dropped 26%, that’s a far cry from deadeye, thats Ron Patterson level. Teams are daring him to shoot the basketball, him being a good athlete and being quick will not make him stick in the league. Everybody is a good athlete, everybody is quick, and everybody can shoot. The average 3 point % from an NBA point guard this season is 36%. If he declares after this year he’s a 2nd round pick at best.

De’Aaron Fox shot 26% from 3 in his only season at UK. He continues to have terrible shooting % from 3.
Mintz has a close skill set to Fox. They use quickness to get to the rim and get to the foul line. Good passers. Create steals.
Not saying Judah Mintz is as good as or better than Fox but it definitely shows a guy like Mintz can make it and succeed in the NBA.

JD Davison who went late 2nd to the Celtics last year would be a good comp.

Tough call for Judah bc there is no real guarantee he comes back and improves. Every year a group of talented freshmen come in and take up 30-40 draft spots and it gets harder and harder for NCAA players to get picked.

Hope he comes back though he'll be on radars and have plenty of buzz.

Fox was a 1st rounder though. They arent gonna give Mintz a ton of time to work it out with a guaranteed contract.

The compare to me is Duke PG Trevon Duval...and he was a better PG than Mintz is, Mintz a better scorer. Both had questionable 3 ball. (Mintz is better and getting there)

He didnt get drafted and currently on his 5th G league team.

I've always been on the "go get paid to improve your game" path. Now with NIL, I think it's smarter for a player on Mintz level to stay another year. Get comfortable at PG and with your shot playing against players your age

We will have to agree to disagree on this. No way shape or form is Duval better than Mintz at any facet of the game.
I also believe Mintz should hang around for another year. For selfish reasons and to raise his shooting percentage for a better draft slot.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances I believe he will be in the NBA one day contributing. He just has it.

He may not have been truly special in your eyes whatever that means, plus you have no clue why he only had a 7 year career. But one thing is for sure, he got paid a lot more money than what he would have gotten with a BA degree. If he has a shot he should take it. Plus every player’s situation is different. Furthermore, Judah is a much better defender which is a premium in the nba. Lots of guys have made a career on defense. Russell Westbrook is not known for his shooting but he gets buckets. A bunch of second round guys have gone on to have long and solid careers. Draymon Green is a prime example of that. Finally, Judah’s shooting will get better because his mechanics are good and he a hard worker committed to his craft. He might even sneak into the first round, who knows. The negativity on these threads sometimes is head scratching. Fortunately he doesn’t pay any attention to the haters out there. Judah will be an nba player one way or another. He’s got the tangibles and intangibles.

Mintz can make it in the league eventually, but he’s not going to be a first round pick after this season, that’s my argument. His quickness and athleticism isn’t enough to make him a first round pick. He’s a good passer, but far from elite. And his decision making is questionable at best. He’s also a long ways off from having an NBA body, he’d get bullied if he made the jump. Fox was a better prospect, obviously.
