Judah a second round pick from BR

Westbrook is 6’4 and 200+ pounds of muscle. Absolute specimen.

He is a good example of a guy whose college production wasn’t superstar level. And yes, he’s never been a great shooter. But he is an elite specimen and athlete.

I see Judah more as a potential Dennis Schroeder type player once he gets stronger and shoots it better? Westbrook is Westbrook - pretty much a one of a kind player.
Lol, Dennis Shroeder is an awful comparison! But you’re entitled to your opinion.

Yeah….Flynn was strong as hell though. And a better outside shooter as a freshman.
Flynn was an amazing basketball player. Judah isnt in his league.
Judah should stay. He will do much better year 2 with a different two at his side. He will be stronger and start to finish better.
I think he stays and ends up going 1st round with a guarantee contract.

Yeah and Mintz shot 46% from 3 his Sr year of high school.
The statement was that you can’t make it in the NBA without being able to shoot. Westbrook and Ivey were my examples of guys who have terrible shooting % and still make it. Several others as well.
I believe Mintz can still be drafted in the first and be good in the NBA despite not being a dead eye shooter.

Ivey actually shot 36% on 5 attempts per game last year. Not particularly good but not terrible.

Mintz shoots 20% on 2 attempts per game. That is a level down.

That being said there have been guys that developed semi-competent shots at the pro-level.

One thing is clear the options for players in Mintz situation are so much better than they were even just 5 years ago - whether they decide to leave or stay.

G League - The NBA has made a concerted effort for its teams to spend more resources on their G League affiliates - coaching, facilities. There is also the 2 way contract potentially available.

NCAA
a) Stick around and get the NIL
b) Transfer and get potentially larger NIL deals, or just transfer because you think there is a better situation,

I think b) could be an issue with any future player in this situation at most schools really.

36% on 5 seems really good, especially at that volume.

I have zero inside information. My guess is based on the tea leaves, the times we live in and the fact this seems to always happens to Syracuse…he gone. I don’t think he transfers though bc where else does he play 35+ without looking over his shoulder, be the man and do whatever he wants while on the court?

If Mintz's camp thinks he can sneak into late first round, he's gone. If he's thinking second round, it boils down to how much Adam offers him.

Not entirely true. Ever heard of Russell Westbrick? Even high picks like Jaden Ivey can’t shoot.
Mintz has the athleticism, speed, and playmaking ability to make up for not being a great shooter. His bread and butter is taking it to the rim and getting to the foul line.
I could definitely see him as a late first round pick. He’s really good.
Westbrook in his prime was an other worldly athlete . Also much bigger in size despite fake height listings being similar

Judah has great parents and they will make a sound and well thought out decision regarding their son. They will listen to coach and evaluations from the NBA. My guess is he comes back. You watch Judah play and he reminds of a wild and crazy middle schooler. He’s all over the place. He’s very gifted athletically, but he needs to mature both emotionally and physically.

How often do jaden Ivey and Westbrook fall on the floor per game ? Not counting diving for loose balls.

You want to be a first round pick not just for the guaranteed cash. But because of sunk cost fallacy most teams subscribe to. They will give you far more chances if they invested more heavily in you

Whether it’s really good or just not bad, we both agree Iveys 3 point shooting is certainly not a comp for Mintz right now.

Judah isn’t strong enough with the ball or a shooter at all. Both of those can be much improved in a year but is it worth doing at syracuse or in the G league is really the only question. I’m not sure he’d be drafted this year. He’s 6’2”-6’3”, thin, not a PG and can’t shoot. Lots of kids with better skills/size out there.

If he makes it to the NBA he will need to dramatically change his flopping. He’s gonna get killed playing against grown men if he continues to insist on throwing himself to the floor every time he jumps with the ball in his hand.

I would take issue with “can’t shoot”. I think it’s more “needs to expand his range.”

I think he’s one of the better mid range shooters we’ve had. Needs to bring it out further though.

Talking 2 hall of famers, but Kidd and Rondo went from “can’t shoot” to respectable shooters.

Of course, they were both also probably the best passer/ball handler in the world when they were young and not good shooters, so that gave them some time to get better at shooting.

This is where we need NIL to help us, and theoretically it should.

Syracuse has ALWAYS been one of the places that cares about college b-ball the most. Biggest crowds, pro sports level focus and attention on the b-ball team within this town, really. If the money matches that, no reason why we shouldn’t get talented kids staying another year that aren’t NBA first round locks.

MCW had the benefit of being on a terrible team, it hid his shortcomings for a couple years. After that though, his career was a pretty slide down to mediocrity. Now, rookie of the year and 7 years in the NBA is nothing to scoff at, but his shooting (or lack there of) stopped him from being truly special
key phrase here is "7 years in league..."
