Judah a second round pick from BR

What are his NBA skills? He’s quick, that’s not nearly enough. He may be a second round pick but I can’t see him sticking around long.
He’s also athletic and tough as nails for his frame. He has good vision, passes well, defends, and plays the right way. His work ethics are second to none, and he’s coachable and a good teammate. Did I mention his layup package is elite and that his handle is tight, and he puts a lot pressure on thee rim. What more does he need to be an nba player?

He may not have been truly special in your eyes whatever that means, plus you have no clue why he only had a 7 year career. But one thing is for sure, he got paid a lot more money than what he would have gotten with a BA degree. If he has a shot he should take it. Plus every player’s situation is different. Furthermore, Judah is a much better defender which is a premium in the nba. Lots of guys have made a career on defense. Russell Westbrook is not known for his shooting but he gets buckets. A bunch of second round guys have gone on to have long and solid careers. Draymon Green is a prime example of that. Finally, Judah’s shooting will get better because his mechanics are good and he a hard worker committed to his craft. He might even sneak into the first round, who knows. The negativity on these threads sometimes is head scratching. Fortunately he doesn’t pay any attention to the haters out there. Judah will be an nba player one way or another. He’s got the tangibles and intangibles.
You are taking this far too seriously…

If I was advising him and if he is showing up on mock drafts as he continues to have a very strong season, I would recommend he go to the tryouts and get feedback before he officially gets an agent. NBA drafts on potential with guys like Judah.
If I was advising him: think long-term. The NCAA offers things that G-League doesnt - namely: spotlight, prssure, fans, atmosphere etc...its much more of a crucible - gleague games are anonymous.

Judah's goal should be a long-term, impactful NBA career...not just to hang on and eek out as many bench years as possible.

I think he is legit talented enough to be a starter in the NBA...but he has to develop his game more...at syr he can practice being "the man" in gleaugue...he will be just another guy.

while the gleague has its perks, I doubt that it is the best way to be a max contract type of player...for me, it is kill it in the NCAA and be a lottery pick...that's how you get there...and that is simply more likely by staying in the NCAA and doing damage...which he is capable of.

if he is fine just being a role player sub-type then jump now...but if he has greater designs...he should stay.

I’m not going to dispute the athleticism, speed, handle, I do think he is elite in those fields. I think with proper coaching he won’t be dribbling to nowhere as often, his decision making skills are a little rough, and to be fair, I don’t think the team around him suits his style.

If he can change speeds better, develop a shot and raise the basketball IQ, he’d be a NBA regular. I think he can do it, but I think he’s a ways away from that now.

I don’t think he’s coming back, no matter what.
I don’t see how there’s any way he doesn’t come back.

De’Aaron Fox shot 26% from 3 in his only season at UK. He continues to have terrible shooting % from 3.
Mintz has a close skill set to Fox. They use quickness to get to the rim and get to the foul line. Good passers. Create steals.
Not saying Judah Mintz is as good as or better than Fox but it definitely shows a guy like Mintz can make it and succeed in the NBA.
Mintz and Fox have the same skill set? Fox looked like an NBA player with elite speed, ball handling and finishing. Not trying to be rude, but see no similarities.

He’s an awful ball handler

Not entirely true. Ever heard of Russell Westbrick? Even high picks like Jaden Ivey can’t shoot.
Mintz has the athleticism, speed, and playmaking ability to make up for not being a great shooter. His bread and butter is taking it to the rim and getting to the foul line.
I could definitely see him as a late first round pick. He’s really good.
Westbrook's career began before the 3 pt. revolution. Also Judah is no comparison to Westbrook in pure athletic talent.

I just know what I’m talking about. I live in Ky and was exposed to Fox a lot. They have the same skill set. Fox was just more elite at the skills than Judah at this point.
They both rely on speed. They both finish at the rim and go to the line. They are both good passers. Both good at creating steals. Both struggle from 3 point line. Both struggle with jump shots. About the same size physically.
And we don’t have to agree on it. That’s fine. We all have our own opinions.

It’s not a one on one comparison. The statement was made that you won’t make it in the NBA if you can’t shoot. Westbrick was an example of someone who can make it without shooting good.

Because his career started when you could still get away with that. He also brought other skills to the table that Judah doesn't have. Westbrook coming into the league in 2023 as a rookie ultimately doesn't have the same career arc as the Westbrook starting his NBA career in 2008.

You’re not wrong on any of that.

But he’s gotta get stronger(which will come with age provided he works at it like I assume he does), shoot the 3 better, and see the defense better when he drives. Once he learns to drive and find shooters, and can hit the 3 at 35% or so he’s all set.

Just my opinion.

Westbrook is 6’4 and 200+ pounds of muscle. Absolute specimen.

He is a good example of a guy whose college production wasn’t superstar level. And yes, he’s never been a great shooter. But he is an elite specimen and athlete.

I see Judah more as a potential Dennis Schroeder type player once he gets stronger and shoots it better? Westbrook is Westbrook - pretty much a one of a kind player.

Oh I agree, Judah has a great shot to play in the NBA. I just think he’ll go the two and done route. He’ll come back next season and be an all American/all-ACC, show scouts he can be an elite PG, shoot the 3, and get stronger. All of that will make him a solid first rounder next year and he’ll get a higher, guaranteed contact. That’s the smart play and it’s what I think he and his family are aiming for.

Westbrook made 2 Final Fours and was a stud defensively. Not a guy who just left 'on potential' because he was scared he had plateaued in college and needed to bolt.

Mintz who returns for his sophomore year stronger and improved probably deserves to be compared to Westbrook.

Flynn didn't leave as a freshman and he went top 6 thats a pretty good comp for Mintz.

Yeah….Flynn was strong as hell though. And a better outside shooter as a freshman.

I don’t necessarily disagree with that. But we’ll see. He’ll go through the pre draft stuff I’m sure.

But realize this, despite his frame, he strong as hell. Just ask his personal trainer, Moe Gibson of GPT (Gibson Performance Training) in the DMV. And he’s 182 now. A few more pound’s won’t hurt as long as it’s within the 185-188 range.
