Just blow it up

I am just relieved the season is over. No more frustration, disappointment, anger on Saturdays until August 2022. It will be bad enough dealing with the basketball team twice a week from now to March. I wanted a win last night and a bowl but now I am glad no more anguish on a gameday.

I appreciate the optimism though next year's schedule screams 3-9 or 4-8.

OOC of Purdue, ND, Wagner and @UCONN. 2-2 there.

ACC Home of FSU, UVA, Louisville and NC St. 1-3 at best (maybe FSU)?

ACC away of Clemson, BC, Pitt, and WF. 1-3 at best (maybe BC)?
I think he will be back and the results you have spelled out is spot on. Wildhack will have to fire him after next year and eat the last 2 years on his contract.

No it’s not worse, or even close. I went to the dome to have a couple beers because there was 0 hope of victory Grobs last couple years. We had extremely competitive games until last night.

I mean not only is that not right but the least competitive game all year was coming off a bye with a Bowl Game on the line. That’s just lol bad.

But big picture I agree this is better than GERRGG which honestly is hardly a ringing endorsement.

We already had a reference to 7-5, so we’re halfway there!

Could have been isn’t there same as actually. And as you acknowledged, 7-5 isn’t 9-3.

Eh, we’re also a couple plays away from three wins.
Yes, but they're a couple of l
No. Stop it. Just stop it. We absolutely failed to make adjustments after the bye. Put another way, we ran a gimmick, teams adjusted to it, and we failed to evolve in light of their adjustments.

Also, we can’t mathematically be one play away from 7 wins. We only won 5 games.
We lost to three teams that were supposed to beat us - they were better than we were.

If you truly expected to beat Louisville, NC State and Pitt you were probably fooling yourself.

After six years, a reasonable person could decide to make a change given Babers' overall W-L record.

And, the number of players entering the portal during the season - I think up to ten - is very disconcerting. If the HC has lost much of the team, that's a big problem.

Otherwise, my perspective is this: (1) the best players on the team are very young - that tells me recruiting is getting better; (2) a number of Babers recruits have made it to the NFL or will soon make it to the NFL - that tells me that he sees talent or develops talent; (3) we lost two or three games we could very well have won; (4) in my opinion, the coaches did make a number of adjustments this season; (5) I really like the DC and OL coach and and (6) I think this Program needs stability in the coaching staff to truly solidify our recruiting base.

2022 will be no different in fact it may be worse and attendance will be abysmal. We were asked to have faith, belief without evidence and the evidence has proved to be daming.

If Dino is retained, at the minimum JW needs to restructure his contract ala Scott Frost, whereby the buyout comes down a ton after next year.
Would dino accept that?

Would dino accept that?
Other coaches have at other places. If that is the option offered and he wants to stay as coach, he would. If not, we know he is happy to move on and we should be prepared to do the same. He was fine with the big pay increase after his one big year, isn't it fair for it to go both ways?

If you follow closely you will notice my post refers to going to our games….. as in games at the dome .

SU fans attend games that are not at home too

We're at the bottom of the ACC recruiting ranking every year. Until that changes we aren't going to win conference games. Dino isn't getting it done. So a change has to to be made. I don't know if anyone they hire can do better (since they won't attract or afford someone with a pedigree) but you at least have to try.

Recruiting is the bottom line. There‘s no impact players in next years class. I’m not sure who were even involved with at the moment.

I kind of like this as a strategy. Let's see how committed he is to the rebuild. If I knew that he was putting his whole ass into it, I'd have no problem with giving this thing another year. Not sure of that. The recent player decisions too make me wonder about the coaches' commitment to this place.

We all like Dino and wanted him to succeed. The cold hard truth is that he has not done so. I'm sure some will point to fluffy metrics (which are not metrics at all) or talk about what he "might" do going forward as though it has already been accomplished, or other types of pretzel logic made up to defend him but his record speaks for itself:

One winning season out of six. Fail
One bowl out of six. A corollary to the above.
One winning season out of six in ACC competition. Fail
A dreadful overall winning percentage. Fail
A dreadful overall ACC winning percentage. Fail
A dreadful overall P5 winning percentage. Fail

I had really thought that he was going to win one of the last three and put the whole issue to bed but he didn't. We didn't even come close and that both surprises and saddens me.

I can only assume that if he is retained that it is because we can't or won't buy out his contract. It will not be because of what any P5 school would consider acceptable performance.

Counter
-Only coach since P to get 10 wins. No other got even 9.
-Huge uplifting wins over ranked VaTech and Clemson. Two more heart breaking losses against the ACC s best.
-As mentioned 3 last second losses , two losses this year attribute to awful officiating.
-Class act that has represented us with dignity.
-Shrader said he is beloved by players , if he is gone we’re going back to square one , do not collect 200.dollars, in fact lose several million.

To my core I thought we’d make a bowl game this year. The fact we didn’t sealed the deal for me and we’ll be worse off next year. I have zero hope for any success next year with the roster make up as it stands currently. My way to early guess says 2-10 / 3-9.

Unfortunately we are in year 6 and quite frankly being expected to lose to a 6-6 Louisville team that just got plowed by Kentucky is pretty pathetic. And we didn’t just lose, and we weren’t just expected to lose, we embarrassingly got our asses handed to us.

When you’re closely beating or closely losing to generally bad teams, what does that tell you? You are the company you keep. When you get plowed by a .500 team what’s that tell you?

No he’s right.

Dino rolled the dice with the qb switch and the team played at a high level but didn’t close for three games.

This last three games is a combination of multiple OL injuries, tape, and the fact that they have a TE playing QB.

At this point I really don’t care. This teams record should be one, two, maybe three wins better. That it isn’t is on the coach.
The irony is that, if the ref throws the flag against FSU, we win that game, are 6-6 and are going bowling.

But that is also precisely the problem.

We had a good five game stretch with Bergeron, Bleich, Servais, Davis and Vettorello.

Record was only 2-3 (3-2 if the ref throws the flag) but averaged 29 pts, 273 yds rushing, 160 passing and only gave up 2 sacks per game and 5 TFLs.

Vettorello gets hurt vs BC and it completely crushed the season. I am not saying we win any of those games but, after reshuffling the line for those last three games, we averaged 11 points, 76 yards rushing, 142 passing and gave up an average of 5 sacks per game and 11 TFLs. We would have at least competed with our oline intact.

But a program cannot let an injury to a single offensive lineman completely torpedo an offense. The oline issues have crushed this program three seasons in a row. I feel we have enough in other areas to win enough games to get to a bowl but we have to get the oline right and get some oline depth as injuries are inevitable.

You can’t say that penalty cost us a win against Florida State.

That penalty cost us a chance to win in OT.
The game was tied.

Put that context in there. That game goes to OT and it’s 50/50 we win.

I thought we were the better team that day. I thought it would have been better than 50/50 that we win.

But, you are correct, OT can be a crapshoot.
