Just blow it up

You've been telling me you're a genius since you were seventeen
In all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean
The weekend at the college didn't turn out like you planned
The things that pass for knowledge I can't understand
Are you rakin‘ in the leaves?
Fans are definitely storing up the tears…

What if we’re a team that won a couple of close ones and lost 3 close ones and that means we’re like on the bad side of mediocre

There is actual context out there for this stuff and it matches what our eyeballs have seen, but this kind of “people don’t understand“ posts are weird

Who is claiming we’re good? Are people out there saying we’re the same 1-12 team from last season? No. We’re in between all that and we did what mediocre, flawed teams do. Won and lost some really close games.
With a young team you are going to lose more of those close games than you win. I do think that can give hope going forward.

The problem is we need to go 4-6 next season vs P5 teams. When Dino has gone 2-7, 2-7, 7-3, 2-7, 1-9, 2-7 here it is hard to have faith in him achieving 4-6.

BTW the UConn game I expect to be close next season. We will have no tape on them, it is on the road, and their HC is superior X and O. I still think we win due to talent. Maybe a 2016 like game.

I know it’s a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but Dino taking a delay of game instead of calling timeout when you had two to use is proof of how incompetent he is as an in-game coach. Inexcusable and not the first time something like that has happened.
People like Stephen Bailey, mark larson, Dan tortora, and Nate Mink are all very good guys. But it amazes me how general their questions always are. It’s mostly “tell me about the positives you take away from today?”

Blows my mind no one asked about that play you mentioned.

Barring a mass exodus of portal seekers we will bury UConn.

Actually, now that I'm in NJ, there has been some leaf raking. No tears, though, because my interest in this program has waned to the point where I no longer go to games and I expect a loss almost every Saturday. Dino should have been canned last year. It's been obvious for three seasons now that he isn't up to the task.

And yet we won 5 this year? Winning one or two more games isn’t that much of stretch to me?

Yes, we will lack depth and seemingly never have a legit good OL. I’m not expecting those things to change. But I do think Shrader should be improved in his second full year as a starter….because he has the raw tools and some of his weaknesses can be improved as he becomes a veteran starter. Dual threat QB is always the ticket to success at SU and covers for a lot of sins.

Jackson is starting to emerge at WR, and Alford would seem to be a young guy with tools who can become an impact player.
I appreciate the optimism though next year's schedule screams 3-9 or 4-8.

OOC of Purdue, ND, Wagner and @UCONN. 2-2 there.

ACC Home of FSU, UVA, Louisville and NC St. 1-3 at best (maybe FSU)?

ACC away of Clemson, BC, Pitt, and WF. 1-3 at best (maybe BC)?

I know Purdue was pretty good this year, but they’re usually mediocre or even bad. Not writing off a home game against them as an L. This was their first winning season in a long time.

I agree with all that. But we already had a “we were practically 7-5” post. And yes, we could have been 7-5. We also could have been 3-9. I was just commenting that if one is going to play the “could’ve” game then you gotta play it in both directions.

Your going by this years strength , some outstanding QBs are likely gone from conference, silly to analyze because there will be ebb and flow of strength.

I’ll go to the Dome when I feel like it regardless of who the coach is. Hate that dramatic stuff. Sometimes going to the Dome is the best thing to do around here that weekend. Enjoy watching high level football in ideal tenperatures while cracking a few blue light cans, hearing the band, seeing campus, etc. Just enjoy the scene every now and then. We’ve sucked for much of 20 years but NOW it’s a deal breaker? Come on. We usually suck. It is what it is, who cares?

This is the attitude I need. I do love going to the games but I care about winning/losing to much and its beginning to lessen my experience I think. The consistent losing is bringing more negativity into it than it should I guess.

I've had the opportunity to be a 40 year fan of Syracuse football and have seen alot of ups and downs and its been a good ride with lots of great times with friends and family.

As far as retaining Dino, I think he should be dismissed. He's just not a good enough football coach at this level. That's become apparent this season. He probably is a great man and mentor but thats not his primary objective as the football coach. Its time for a change.

Last night as I was saying my good byes to my ticket section mates I said I may not see them next year as I felt I had finally seen enough (the failure to use the TO before halftime really tweaked me). They said, rightfully so, you'll be back, you're always here, we'll get to a bowl next season. They're right.

And so the cycle continues.

Gotta win your home games. We were bad at home this year going 1-4 vs the P5. We should at worst have gone 3-2. Can’t lose to mediocre teams at home. We were a 7-5 team that went 5-7.

Given the schedule we are a 6-6 team next year. We could be a better team but record won’t show it.

I don’t expect to beat ND or Clemson. Rest of the P5 home games we need 3-2 and rest of the road 1-2. That gets us to a Bowl. I have no faith that Dino can achieve this.

Ok and those programs losing QBs have a decent history of replacing them, along with good coaching. I've seen enough of SU the past 18 years (wow I can't believe it's been that long) to gauge how this will go. I'm not happy about it though would love to be wrong.

I agree that we should be 6-6, I just can't see us getting there right now.

Dino will be back so we really need to hope he can achieve it.

We had a golden opportunity to go bowling this year, similar to the other 5-7 season and it was blown. So I don't really have any faith in this head coach being able to go bowling in a season with an even more difficult schedule next season.

Yep the difference between 2019 and this year were preseason expectations. They choked away the positive momentum from 2018 in 2019 starting with Maryland and this year they pissed away 6-6 early on against Rutgers. Our home record was atrocious this year, that did us in

Yes definitely two different paths to the same record, but both seasons were impacted by Dino's regression in decision making. I honestly don't know what happened to that guy after the 2018 season. It's just bizarre.

Sorry , this is not like Grob, no way. You can make good arguments for replacing coach, but this is not Grob like.
Some ways it is worse, Dino’s buyout is millions more then Grob.

He isn’t the guy we hired. Too comfortable after being extended? I have no idea

No it’s not worse, or even close. I went to the dome to have a couple beers because there was 0 hope of victory Grobs last couple years. We had extremely competitive games until last night.
