Justin Barron: Senior Bowl

Geez, stretch out a little. Be 6-4. This kids weight from what I know has yinge yanged from 224 to 236 in a matter of weeks. Eat a few pizzas before weigh in.

His size and ability to cover should get him drafted. With that frame he probably can bulk up a little to help him in the run game.
I've been reluctant to say this because I don't want people to think I'm saying he'll be anywhere near as good, but maybe like a poor man's Brian Urlacher.

the only thing was Urlacher was about 260 which made him a beast vs the run. 225 is pretty light for an NFL LB to take on those offensive lineman and even RB’s. JB is pretty lean. He certainly has the frame to bulk up though.

I was thinking Urlacher was lighter in college and added weight as a pro. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Not nearly as muscular as I would expect 225 lbs to be. Looks like he could carry another 15.
easily. maybe he kept his weight low to play the star position but his frame can easily add that weight.

You’re probably right about Urlacher too. I’m not sure what he played at in college.

I mean he was a safety up until this year so it makes sense. I feel like he could bulk up more and be an OLB.

I hope he sticks somewhere. He's tough enough. But will he be big & strong enough?
I think he's going to have to go the FA route.
Remember folks, Sean Tucker didn't get drafted. A lot of really good guys don't get drafted.

You want to talk about good linebackers, gentlemen? Look no further than your own 7th round draft pick by the Colts in 2018. Some great information about him follows:

Zaire Franklin is a captain of the Indianapolis Colts. He was named a team captain in 2020 and has been a leader on the field and in the community.

How Franklin became a captain:

Franklin was drafted by the Colts in the seventh round in 2018

He started his career on special teams and became a captain shortly after

He's a five-time team captain

Franklin's accomplishments

In 2024, Franklin was named an All-Pro and selected for his first Pro Bowl

He led the NFL in tackles in 2024

He broke the Colts' tackle record twice, in 2022 and 2023

He's also known for his ability to force turnovers

Other contributions

Franklin is involved in the community and focuses on underserved areas

He's a vocal leader on defense, offense, and special teams

He's an example of how hard work can lead to success

6’ 0” 235, 4.62 40, 10’ 2”/ 38” VJ /122” BJ, 10’ 2”

On March 16, 2022, Franklin signed a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Colts.[11] In the 2022 season, Franklin had three sacks, 167 total tackles (102 solo), six passes defended, and two forced fumbles in 17 starts.

In 2023, Franklin finished the season second in the league with a career-high 179 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and six passes defensed through 16 starts.[13][14] Franklin was ranked 100th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2024.

On March 11, 2024, with Franklin beginning the last year of his contract, the Colts signed him to a three-year extension worth up to $31.3 million :)

But didn't Sean Tucker have a heart valve issue that created uncertainty right at the worst time (in the 1-2 months before the draft)? I'm not saying JB is a guaranteed draft pick, just not sure ST is analogous.

He's about 20 pounds shy of that. But he is a tough SOB.

I didn't remember that. That would explain a lot. But, generally, would you agree that a lot of talented players at SU never got drafted? I think it's true for most teams.

For sure. I wasn't trying to parse your post, just pointing out that the ST situation was unique. In fact, I normally defer to you on talent evaluation and believe that your background and contributions in this area are under appreciated by this board.

Thanks, that's very nice of you. I have some opinions, that's for sure. LOL
