Kadari and the 3

Why should the staff trust a dude to shoot 3’s who is missing them in practice and hitting at 13% when left open in games. The evidence shows that he improved his shooting under the coaching staffs strategy.
Fair enough. But here’s where i believe JB lost touch. He’s never been a touchy-feely type but maybe a bit of reassurance might’ve worked wonders. The kid needed to know he had his HC’s trust, but sitting him when he should be playing, quick hook when he did play, plus watching another player screwing up mightily but seemingly operating under a double standard, probably drove him away. Speculation yes, but that’s what i bet happened.

I may be wrong but I think this is considered coaching which again I think is JB’s role. Perhaps he knew that Kadary brought way more value as a driver/finisher/passer and wanted him to do that.
Driving ability is lessened if it is known that is all you will do. A guard has to show an outside shot. A big doesn't. The restriction made life harder. It strains credulity to think that he was terrible in practice and 3/3 in the tourney.

I bet you’re wrong.

I am just as upset as many others in losing three key players -Kadary, Braswell and Woody - but that is water over the dam. We need to stop beating this dead horse to death. Bobby was a different situation and gave us three solid years, though faced some leg problems during this time that could easily pop up again at anytime. Kadary and Woody seemed to have different views on playing than did coach Boeheim. End of season, generous transfer opportunities galore this year, take the grass is greener option. Basketball is a team sport best played when all players are on the same game plan as the coaching staff and want to execute the game plan. Let's focus on next season and stop regurgitating what happened last year.

Have you met us?

Could be. But at some point I’d love to learn the full story. Seems like there’s a lot more to this then what we now know.
I would more likely bet Kadary wanted (demanded) at least more playing time if not starting. When he didn't get a firm yes, he was done. Given more freedom to shoot is probably a lot lower on the list.

Very astute.

If he didn’t trust him, why did he leave Kadary in to close out several games? If that didn’t tell Kadary everything, he wasn’t listening or didn’t want to listen.

Or there was more to it.

Ego on the kid’s part, maybe some bridges started smoking, or too little too late? Who can say? I raised 3 teenagers- they can be stubborn, self-centered, & immature- that’s a given. Reports are that one assistant coach was very upset how things went down. Rather than blame the 18 year old, i lay it at the feet of the adults who let it get that far.
The transfer rule this year gave KR an out, and rather than waiting to see what would happen, he bounced.
If Kadary didn’t feel the love earlier in the year, perhaps it made no difference what JB did later on.
Anyway, I tire of this subject- it definitely needs to be put to bed. It is what it is...or was.

Is this a Seton Hall board ?
If you think people aren’t going to still talk about Kadary, you’re sorely mistaken. He’s a player and subject of interest, even if he’s no longer on the team. The best you can hope is that Joe and Symir step up and play well and improve a lot with Gmac’s coaching in the summer, and that’ll lessen the sting of Kadary leaving.

So well put. This is what I’ve been saying and I think it’s pretty much what happened with Kadary.

It would benefit JB to adjust his coaching and explain his reasoning on major decisions. Kids need reassurance and they need to trust their coach. That requires strong relationships (I know that was harder to do this season with Covid isolation). The old ways don’t work as well anymore, and I actually think he’s worse than he was 10 years ago (Hop was a really positive influence in getting JB to soften up a bit and connect with his players). If you listen to his interview with Axe when he called in to his show last week, you can see defensiveness and what a know-it-all he can be. Can you imagine being an assistant coach or player trying to discuss a point with him? He never gives any ground and will spin his reality until you relent.

Older folks are always super open to changing what they do...especially if what they do has been successful in the past. It ain’t gonna happen.

I actually think for Benny types, we are the perfect school and JB is the perfect coach assuming he plays the mins ala Ennis or Mali.

I don’t think projects or freshman that are looking for NBA but need to be multi year players work fantastic for Jim in the current climate.

but maybe it means we can get great portal pickups based on leaning on experience as he does. We’ll see...but I wouldnt expect any change in his coaching.

If you make them in Practice JB let’s you take them in a game.

Kadary did go 3/3 from Deep in the tournament- it seemed like any “restrictions” may have been lifted

I believe all 3 were with the games out of reach (2 late vs SDS but there were so many 3's in the last 2 min its hard to remember straight and the 1 vs houston - SDS still to the best day, the best over hit in the history of sports - not talked about enough. something like 7 straight 3 point makes and like 30+ points in less than 3 minutes to cover by 1).

you take those meaningless 3/3 away and hes like 25% with a restriction of only shooting WIDE OPEN 3's... his shot just isnt there. he had some bad clanks this season...

granted, jg3 got away with crossover step back turnaround 30 footers but there is no comparing jg3 and kadary shot. jg3 can shoot. kadary could not this season.

agree with this.

If you take away the shots he made, he sucked. I agree.

Joe is shooting career 39% 2 point range and 32.8% from 3.
How does that qualify him as a good shooter?

He can make shots but he misses a lot more. I don’t consider him a good shooter he is okay.
I don’t want Joe having a green light.

i dont want joe having a green light to do my quoted crossover spin move step back turn around contested 3 which he does FAR FAR too often.

but hes a good shooter.

7/21 aint great when no one picks you up outside of 10 feet. He literally was getting the Zion treatment.

4/18 (prior to garbage time 3/3) is even worse. kadary could not shoot this season. thats not a question. everyone saw it amd anyone that disagrees with that is seeing weird hindsight non sensical BS. he probably had 4 misses that were off the backboard or airballs this season.

Scoop Jardine shot the ball way better than Joe and I don’t consider him a good shooter.

Joe has a reputation as a good shooter and I really don’t believe it.

He is a high volume scorer who can make shots.

He is a SG on most teams or a 3rd guard on good teams.

We have him playing out of position and it doesn’t help him.
