Kadary “Swiss Army Knife” Richmond...

I thought the same. Something about it reminds me. He’s obviously no Pearl but like many great guards, he plays so smooth that he looks like he’s playing slower than he is. But he’s got another element that MCW didn’t in terms of his distribution skills.

MCW piled up quite a few assists.

His problem was the jump get caught in the air and pass turnover, and his handle could get ripped at times, especially when he was allowed to be bodied and mauled by defenders.

Kadary had that little in-n-out left handed dribble coming downhill at the top of the key to get in the lane (I think he got fouled?)... they showed it on a replay, it was so subtle & smooth it just creates space & keeps the defenders off balance, even when he looks like he’s at 50% speed. Great to have a guard who can get after it on the bounce, a much needed & complimentary skill set

edit: I may turn it into a gif an upload it here in a bit if I can find it
Well it took me forever to get this video splice/gif actually uploaded on this site... but here it is!

Thanks.

Yeah, that's nasty.

Also, I remember while watching the game he went at the hoop so fast it seemed like something was wrong. Like it was a dead ball and he was just screwing around.

Nope. Caught 'em napping.

If I recall, I was jumping up and down ranting like a crazy man after that.

I did that a lot this game. Felt good. Legitimately been almost a year since I was really fired up watching a Cuse game.

if we could get another crafty guard like kadary and a solid athletic big man who’s good around the rim. that would compliment kadary benny williams next year a lot. I feel we would be scary, people are sleeping on benny williams. he’s good

I don’t think any Cuse fans are sleeping on Benny, lol.

I agree, we are shaping up to have a monstrous team next year if we can find an adequate center.

sid and marek might be back. that's when playing time really shrinks for fringe players and the 7/8th ones as well.

i don't think edwards or braswell has a snowballs chance in hell of playing any meaningful minutes. i would bet money they leave with or without sid and mary staying

Honestly though...why should we care about this?

Bras shouldn’t play any meaningful minutes. And we’ve got 2 other centers on the roster who don’t play much yet either. Somebody’s gonna play center next year.

I'm not good at cutting and editing but at about the 29 second mark the dribble/drive by Kadary is a thing of beauty. He can do things that none of our other guards can do. Once this kid gets confident and gets going look out.

Man, rewatching the condensed highlights, up 3 in overtime with 3 mins left n the clock ticking down, KR breaks down his man n drives to the rack, kicks a cross court pass to a wide open QG for a huge 3!!! That was a dagger and gave us some much needed breathing room. What a play, kid is a stud.

And it’s the simple plays too. That soft lead bounce pass in perfect stride to QG for the and-1 for example.
KR has what i call the “Gretzky Gene”- the ability to anticipate and lead, before a player even starts to move. He does that several times a game, like he’s one step ahead of everyone else. Sky’s the limit for this kid.

I care if he starts. JGIII does not deserve to be starting over him. It matters.
jb will know when the time is right. just like he knew not to throw the freshman into the fire in the bryant game. he has a guard rotation he can trust & he will distribute the minutes game by game as necessary.

As board arbiter of nicknaming, I propose that a simplification to "Swiss" Richmond may ultimately be where the nickname lands, and what could work best.

Alternatively, he may prove himself worthy of Thickburger.

Not really. Pearls handle was as good as anyone who has ever played the game. Im not sure who Kadary reminds me of. Kid is smooth as silk. As his shot improves he is going to become a force.
I'd say Pearl only to the extent he favors the ball in his left hand when starting his penetration to the hoop and juke steps back to the right.
He reminds me of Rajin Rondo w his length and floor game

Believe it's been mentioned at least once in here, but in addition to Kadary's tipped passes, teams have recognized pretty early on that he's getting in the passing lanes and going for steals, even on inbounds from under the basket. This is causing the opposing teams to pass farther out away from the basket, disrupting their offensive flow, and eating up precious time on the shot clock.

That laissez-faire attitude on some of his simple passes needs to go away and soon, or we will see more of those stolen and dunked the other end like happened yesterday. His shooting will fall as his form is good, and his assertiveness will come over time. He's looking like a very complete player very early in his career. Love it.

It’s too bad the NCAA passed that rule preventing teams from playing young centers so they can develop.

You play guys to win games at this level, not to develop.

Would be nice if we had more “easy” games where guys like that could play more. But with a limited OOC schedule this year and a few games being way closer than we hoped...there’s just not many chances.

Given how much their cut and the Rutgers bigs were destroying us on the boards, are you positive playing a backup for 5 mins or so would have been that bad?

No. Not positive.

But I haven’t seen anything that makes me think “that guy needs to be in there, we’d be a better team!” either.

First, we should have smashed Bryant. Again, you rely on only one reality being available to us. Kadary should have played in the second half against Bryant.

But let's move on to "game by game".

We are 207th in 3PT%. This is mainly driven by Buddy and JGIII's terrible shooting from that range: Buddy under 26% this year and JGIII under 35%. Just so no one thinks I'm hiding AG's numbers, he's a smidge under 39%.

Buddy leads our team in FGA/game by almost a whole four shots per game (and this is over AG who has Dion Waiters' confidence).

Let's focus on who should be playing. I'm including PER, eFG% and TS%, which includes FTs, so Buddy and JGIII get the credit they deserve for their high FT%s.

Kadary:
PER: 21.6 (second best out of the 7 guys that play)
TS%: .579
eFG%: .500

Buddy:
PER: 12.1 (6th out of 7th)
TS%: .438
eFG: .402

JGIII:
PER: 11.8 (worst)
TS%: .469
eFG%: .428

Add in defense...

I'm all for riding the hot hand and I don't want anyone, Kadary or anyone else, playing almost 40 mpg, by any means. JGIII and especially Buddy are important to the team.

But right now we are seven games in. Let's start the most deserving players.

While we're at it, it may be a good idea for Buddy, who is averaging more FGA than PPG, to maybe be a little more discerning in his shot selection.

And just a shout out to Q who is first in PER (27.5), TS% and eFG% (over 71% in both). Maybe we should keep the guys in that pass him the ball.

Again, I want to be clear, we need Buddy and JGIII. I especially like Buddy. But, to me, this is no longer a "let's see who has it tonight" anymore. It's time to hand the keys to Kadary.

EDIT: I had Buddy's eFG% too *high*. It is actually lower. It is fixed now.
