Kadary “Swiss Army Knife” Richmond...

...better EAT into JG3’s minutes moving forward. This guy is dripping with tools and is getting better by leaps and bounds each game.

Girard on the bench in crunch time was so satisfying

Kadary taking the reigns and playing with confidence down the stretch was really what was satisfying to me. That drive and kick to Griffin for the 3 in the corner was a heck of a play and a huge play. Loved the way he started the fast break and looked up the court to Q for that 3 point play too. Lot of guys would’ve walked it up there.

No. Not positive.

But I haven’t seen anything that makes me think “that guy needs to be in there, we’d be a better team!” either.
But this the issue... we probably won’t be a better team now if we force feed minutes to our young bigs. But what about in Februay? In March? Next season? Yes, JB has won a lot of games, but how many more titles or deep runs would he have if he took a few Ls early to develop players?

I just don’t think that’s how it works.

If it was, why wouldn’t Buddy be Ray Allen by now? All kinds of minutes to “develop” right? Lol.

Strangely enough, despite his only being a frosh, Kadary seems to be our most consistent guard. He does not force things, he sees the floor very well, he knows how to create, and he plays very good D. He does need to improve his shooting, but that may well come. As for Buddy and Joe, it is rare when they are both hot simultaneously. Jimmy needs to figure out between the two of them who is hot and who is not and get Kadary in there ASAP each game.

Because Buddy doesn’t have the athleticism or skills to be ray allen. He has maxed the potential his body has given him... good for him, a lot of dudes don’t do that. More time on the court won’t really change that.

The young bigs haven’t come close to maxing out their potential.. they could get better with more run but we will never know. I haven’t been to practice so maybe more minutes won‘r help.

Was kind of surprising he wasn't put in at the end for his free throw shooting. Guess it wasn't that close at the end that we needed him.

I disagree. Buddy does have limited athleticism, but as he gets stronger and more physically mature he is learning and becoming more adept at getting shots closer to the hoop. No, he will never be a superstar, but I do not see any reason why he cant continue to gradually improve and build on his game.

First, we should have smashed Bryant. Again, you rely on only one reality being available to us. Kadary should have played in the second half against Bryant.

But let's move on to "game by game".

We are 207th in 3PT%. This is mainly driven by Buddy and JGIII's terrible shooting from that range: Buddy under 26% this year and JGIII under 35%. Just so no one thinks I'm hiding AG's numbers, he's a smidge under 39%.

Buddy leads our team in FGA/game by almost a whole four shots per game (and this is over AG who has Dion Waiters' confidence).

Let's focus on who should be playing. I'm including PER, eFG% and TS%, which includes FTs, so Buddy and JGIII get the credit they deserve for their high FT%s.

Kadary:
PER: 21.6 (second best out of the 7 guys that play)
TS%: .579
eFG%: .500

Buddy:
PER: 12.1 (6th out of 7th)
TS%: .438
eFG: .402

JGIII:
PER: 11.8 (worst)
TS%: .469
eFG%: .428

Add in defense...

I'm all for riding the hot hand and I don't want anyone, Kadary or anyone else, playing almost 40 mpg, by any means. JGIII and especially Buddy are important to the team.

But right now we are seven games in. Let's start the most deserving players.

While we're at it, it may be a good idea for Buddy, who is averaging more FGA than PPG, to maybe be a little more discerning in his shot selection.

And just a shout out to Q who is first in PER (27.5), TS% and eFG% (over 71% in both). Maybe we should keep the guys in that pass him the ball.

Again, I want to be clear, we need Buddy and JGIII. I especially like Buddy. But, to me, this is no longer a "let's see who has it tonight" anymore. It's time to hand the keys to Kadary.

EDIT: I had Buddy's eFG% too *high*. It is actually lower. It is fixed now.
The prosecution rests.

Sure... but he’s not going to become ray allen. He definitely has room to progress through his current level... I’m skeptical he can level up. The young bigs could definitely level up... we just don’t know.

So why do we act like guys who don’t play will automatically “develop” if you put them in the game more? Why didn’t Jalen Carey “develop”?

Easy to assume they’re all high potential guys. Backup QB syndrome.

My point is you don’t know till you try. If they do nothing don’t play them.

Zero points on one shot attempt for Andre Jackson today. Boy did we get lucky with his decision and the dominoes that followed.
I think Jackson is very talented. This is on Hurley, who again is showing he is in over his head and has little idea how to coach.

In this day and age, getting kids to come by making playing time promises you can’t keep is foolish. Andre is going to transfer and go to a better situation where he has a coach who will tell him the truth and help him become a better player.

Bouknight is one hell of a player and uconn is lucky he came there. He will be Hurleys claim to fame for the draft and he will try selling that to recruits like look what I developed and he's a first rounder etc...BUT Hurley still sucks and will have absolutely nothing to do with it.. Also its still great watching uconn lose!

Let’s face it- these First World problems of who plays when/how much, are a welcome diversion especially after the last couple of years.
I have absolute faith that JG3 will bounce back strong and it’s up to JB to figure out how to balance the combo of Kadary & JG3, in relation to Buddy.
I fully expected Griff to play 2guard this year, so I’m a little surprised he’s strictly at the 3.
A lineup of: KR/AG/WOODY/QG/Marek would be long, versatile, athletic, and lethal- especially on offense.
It would also involve JB having to sit Buddy/JG. Don’t know if he’s got the patience to pull that off.

Why do they call him Kooks? Because of his hair before he got here?

If that's his given nickname, that works for me. Easy to type. Biggest upside of typing his last name though is that it auto capitalizes and spell checks for you.

A lot of buddys drives are always one direction, would like to see him learn a one dribble low crossover with an explosive change of direction to pull up in the long run. Once he learns that can be a better passer to. The behind the back move has no shake and bake. That's the one thing Dolezaj has on him.
