Who can get us to the promise land? That is the only thing that matters.

I'm just sick of Alum/past cuse coach hires, Tumolo is up there for me tho. She has done really well at Army. But can she do it at a big time program.

Going from Army to beating UNC, NW, and BC is a very big jump. She went 13-4 this year but not against top level competition.

With Joe S., we know exactly what we are getting and has been a HC for a long time.

Also, Florida was absolutely blown out today by UNC and it wasn’t even remotely close.

If it was up to me, I would go with Joe S as I want someone who has run a solid program for a long time. I’m done with learning on the job for a while after the last run.

The jump from Wagner to Army was pretty big too and now army is a top 16-20 team. Pretty good for a program that didn’t exist 10 years ago.

To play devils advocate, joe spallina hasn’t beaten those teams either and his level of competition is pretty much equivalent to army. I would say the patriot league is better than whatever leagues stony brook competes in previously or currently. He may be in the mix, but his behavior towards Syracuse staff both publicly and privately in the past couple years won’t do him any favors.

I hear you on Joe S.. We’ll see where this goes but I just want to win, go to final fours, and be respectable again. Right now we are a long ways from that,

He’s never been to a final four even with multiple Tewarrton candidates good coach but not as proven as you would think
Does he get no credit for helping them become Tewaaraton candidates? Weren’t one or two pretty underrated recruits?

Spallina just feels like there’s too much going on for it to come together.

He’s an outspoken guy, he got in a fight with the administration last year, Joey almost left and his daughter decommitted…

I’ll disagree, we aren’t that far off from being back in the final four and respect will take a significant uptick no matter who is hired. Well almost no matter who is hired. There are a couple outliers that wouldn’t be super helpful. As long as the hire is strong and the previous coach doesn’t take key players, they should be back in final four contention almost immediately. A lot of teams not named UNC lose a lot of talent this year. There will be spots up for grabs in final four next year.

I hope you are right. Getting beat by BC 2-17 is a low spot in the programs history. UNC will clearly be a force for the next few years.

this boards obsession with alum hires is so strange to me lol. the best coach should be picked and that is without a doubt Spallina! the dude could absolutely out-coach Jenny Levy and AW-W, especially if he starts winning the recruiting battles and getting the top talent. If Joe had the athletes/roster that Kayla had, there's no question in my mind that he would be able to get more out of them then whatever mess we had to watch this year.

If Joe is actually still interested, as someone on here has stated, I really don't even know what the big debate here is. This should be a no brainer for Wildhack. Spallina is a proven winner, has won everywhere he has coached, at multiple levels, probably the best x's and o's coach in wlax, lives and breathes lacrosse, etc. Keep it simple, let's not mess this up for a second time.

The fact that people think Regy should be the next coach, why? just, why? He's never been a head coach at the D1 level. When he was here coaching with Gary, their defense was always the weakest link, which was why he was let go and moved onto the NLL where he was a head coach and failed miserably. Fired after the first year. No thanks!

No offense to the other 'cuse alum's Rowan-Thompson and Tumolo, but I'd much rather have Katrina Dowd over them as my #2 after Spallina.

SU beat UNC 20-5 last year look where they are now

Regy Thorpe was not let go he left on his own to be the head coach in the NLL and you ask any player on the women’s team who the voice in the locker room was it was Regy players adore him. He was part of multiple FF4 teams as a coach at SU. He has been to back to back FF4 with the Gators. Coached the Six Nations Arrows to a Minto Cup Women’s Team USA to a silver in sixes and Men’s USA to a silver in box USA’s highest finish ever want me to keep gong?

You can if you'd like...? My impression of the situation was Gary told him he was being let go, but let him leave on his accord without firing him. Gary was sick of losing and knew what change needed to be made, and he made the right call at the time.

You can continue beating the Regy drum on here till the cow's come home. I'm sure Regy is an amazing guy. The reality is he's still never been a head coach at the D1 level. And if Wildhack was smart, which I think he is, there is no way he is handing Thorpe the keys to a top 5 program in the sport. That would be such a huge gamble and set the program back.

If I am Wildhack, I am going with a proven winner as the next HC. I mean, are we trying to win a national championship or what? Just go back and watch Stony Brook play BC in the tourney. Spallina had his team playing way harder and better than we did when we played them, and did it all with a bunch of unranked kids. Now just imagine what he would be able to do here with our roster/top rated talent. It's really a no brainer.

UNC’s coach has been there 30 years , she’s been their only women’s lacrosse coach since they started the program. Neither their coach nor their program is a newcomer. They have won 3 NCAA championships, the latest one in 2022, her first was in 2013 - during the coach’s 2nd decade coaching there. She’s an excellent coach with decades of experience and an excellent overall record. I guess I don’t understand the point trying to be made with UNC regarding Traynor or our next possible coach in this thread. Am I just missing something and just being in my natural confused state? Thanks.

The point is all programs experience blow outs from time to time it doesn’t define the program since people want to fixate that a bunch of SU freshman got blown out by a bunch of BC 5th year players

Again what has Spallina won? He has never been to a final four to include the years with Kylie OhMiller who until very recently led the NCAA in career assists. Then continues to schedule a weak out of conference schedule and wonders why his team never is seeded. I think he is a fine coach but he is not proven anything as far bringing home a championship or even getting past the quarterfinals something Treanor did 2x in 4 years.

KT did that with Gary’s players. Once she had her own, the house collapsed.

Of note, the UNC freshman scored I believe 8 of their 18 points yesterday.

KT was a great player but great players don’t always make great coaches. We get it, you have endless support for KT but she isn’t flawless. Far from it actually.

This team was made up of almost all Freshman playing the number 1 SOS I don’t question Kayla’s ability to coach or recruit at all. I do however question her character which in turn sabotages her ability to to lead it very much appears Kayla prioritizes her wants and needs over the teams which creates a toxic culture
