SU beat UNC 20-5 last year look where they are now
UNC’s coach has been there 30 years , she’s been their only women’s lacrosse coach since they started the program. Neither their coach nor their program is a newcomer. They have won 3 NCAA championships, the latest one in 2022, her first was in 2013 - during the coach’s 2nd decade coaching there. She’s an excellent coach with decades of experience and an excellent overall record. I guess I don’t understand the point trying to be made with UNC regarding Traynor or our next possible coach in this thread. Am I just missing something and just being in my natural confused state? Thanks.

The point is all programs experience blow outs from time to time it doesn’t define the program since people want to fixate that a bunch of SU freshman got blown out by a bunch of BC 5th year players

You can if you'd like...? My impression of the situation was Gary told him he was being let go, but let him leave on his accord without firing him. Gary was sick of losing and knew what change needed to be made, and he made the right call at the time.

You can continue beating the Regy drum on here till the cow's come home. I'm sure Regy is an amazing guy. The reality is he's still never been a head coach at the D1 level. And if Wildhack was smart, which I think he is, there is no way he is handing Thorpe the keys to a top 5 program in the sport. That would be such a huge gamble and set the program back.

If I am Wildhack, I am going with a proven winner as the next HC. I mean, are we trying to win a national championship or what? Just go back and watch Stony Brook play BC in the tourney. Spallina had his team playing way harder and better than we did when we played them, and did it all with a bunch of unranked kids. Now just imagine what he would be able to do here with our roster/top rated talent. It's really a no brainer.
Again what has Spallina won? He has never been to a final four to include the years with Kylie OhMiller who until very recently led the NCAA in career assists. Then continues to schedule a weak out of conference schedule and wonders why his team never is seeded. I think he is a fine coach but he is not proven anything as far bringing home a championship or even getting past the quarterfinals something Treanor did 2x in 4 years.

KT did that with Gary’s players. Once she had her own, the house collapsed.

Of note, the UNC freshman scored I believe 8 of their 18 points yesterday.

KT was a great player but great players don’t always make great coaches. We get it, you have endless support for KT but she isn’t flawless. Far from it actually.

This team was made up of almost all Freshman playing the number 1 SOS I don’t question Kayla’s ability to coach or recruit at all. I do however question her character which in turn sabotages her ability to to lead it very much appears Kayla prioritizes her wants and needs over the teams which creates a toxic culture

You keep making this comparison as if it's an apples to apples comparison. I don't think many people expect a school like Stony Brook to have the success of a power conference program. When you hire a coach from a mid-major conference, I think most people try to consider what this coach would be able to do if they had the resources of a power conference school and if they were able to recruit to a famous name school.

I don't think you're trying very hard to understand this for whatever reason, as you seem like a smart person.

Now if you don't like Spallina for other reasons, that's fine. Or if you don't think his success would translate to a school like Syracuse, that's fine. But to keep making the comparison between Stony Brook and Syracuse is becoming rather tiresome imho.

I like Spallina I just don’t see him being a head and shoulders front runner in his post
game presser after losing to Syracuse in the second round he was talking about making hard decisions for his family implying his time at SB was coming to an end. There have been many rumors about him going to Clemson as an assistant allowing him to have more free time for endeavors like the PLL and is now the General Manager of the Redwoods. The PLL is a demanding league I’m not sure a head coach would be able to comit I’m not sure Wildhack would even go for it.

WEST POINT
Tumolo
In 2013, Tumolo was hired to serve on Amanda O’Leary's coaching staff at the University of Florida.[10] During two seasons with Florida, Tumolo helped coach the offense. In 2014, the Gators would lead the NCAA in scoring and goals scored.[11] Tumolo was also a mentor to Shannon Gilroy, who would become the first Gators player to log 100 points in a season.

On August 27, 2015, Tumolo returned to Syracuse as an assistant coach on Gait's staff.

Tumolo began a coaching career for the University of Oregon on July 5, 2016. Coaching alongside head coach Katrina Dowd, Tumolo assisted in coordinating the Ducks' offense.[12]

In July 2018, Tumolo was named head coach for Wagner College's women's lacrosse team.[13]

On June 28, 2021, Tumolo was named the Noto Family Head Coach of the Army Black Knights women's lacrosse team at the United States Military Academy.[14] Tumolo takes over for Kristen Skiera, who was hired away by Virginia Tech earlier the same month.[15] Tumolo led Army to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023 as the Black Knights posted a 15-4 overall record including four wins over ranked opponents.

I do think Katrina Dowd will and should be offered and interview. Marie McCool would be another interesting name

So many here know much more about lacrosse than I do, I vote for the Women’s Lax equivalent of Fran Brown, if there is one!

Yes McCool is a great last name but she shouldn’t be mentioned anywhere near the Syracuse coaching search. She has been an assistant for 3 years ( I’m not counting her two years as a volunteer assistant) on an established program with the greatest collection of talent in decades. Not enough experience for a program of Syracuse’s stature. They should be looking a head coaches looking to get to the pinnacle, not an assistant coach with limited experience.

Immediately. hurry up and announce Spallina already, my patience is wearing thin haha!

Ok so what coach is available with championship experience as a head coach Levy never happening Reese never happening Walker- Weinstein never happening Amonte Hiller no chance so that leaves you with the head coach of JMU or Cindy Timchal

In the past 20 years, only 5 coaches have won a NC...

And you've already eliminated 4 of them.

I believe as Julie Myers would come out of retirement to coach Syracuse. I kid.

I think you may have misread my post. I want a coach with experience that WANTS to get to the pinnacle. I’m not arrogant enough to think that SU can lure a champion head coach but I also don’t think they should be looking at the second assistant of a top team with less that 5 years of coaching experience. I think head coaching experience should be one of the top criteria, the only assistants I’d want to them to consider are those with significant track records (a Jen Kent, Caitlin Defelise, Reg Thorpe type track record).

Personally, I’d try to interview Dowd, Tumolo, Jen Adams and Joe Spallina.

Surprised there isn’t more chatter for Jen Adams. Perhaps she wouldn’t be interested, but that would be an absolute home run hire imo

She quietly goes about her job and produces outstanding results basically every year. That said, I would highly doubt she is looking to leave Loyola at this time. I know that others have tried to pry her loose and they haven’t been successful. She and Dana Dobbie are probably the best coaching duo that haven’t won a title.

She had a fairy underachieving season this year to include losing to Syracuse at home and SB in the first round with one of the most talented players in program history. Possible she could take the next step at SU she does have a good relationship with Gary and definitely a big name in the sport
