Kelvin Sampson

People on this board, we had this exact conversation after the JG3 foul at the end of the VT game where he got hammered and everyone was clamoring for the team to rush the floor and fight the VT player. Some were claiming this team had no “fight” and no “courage” like the old big east teams. I believe a DC fight was brought up as proving those players had heart.
In my opinion, bully ball is far different than playing tough. Syracuse never played that crappy style of play, but the best Syracuse teams played tough.

Kelvin Sampson is my favorite coach in the NCAAs on other programs he's a better Ed Cooley.

Hope he wins it all this year he deserves the accolades K and Roy and those guys got. People wouldn't bat an eye at what he did at IU if it happened now.

Totally forgot Franny was playing a road game even though it didn't sound that loud Auburns fans are pretty overrated. Thought Murray and his boys would go off for him but it was brick after brick and zero D.
I got to meet Kelvin a few years ago, after attending a cougar's game with a former player who is still held in pretty high regard within the program. It was at midcourt after a victory and his post game interview, shook his hand and I thought he was very gracious. Also happy for his success and wish them well in the tournament, and who will ever forget Phi Slamma jamma. I find it easy to root for the cougars, they are a tight bunch. #25 is a beast

and crying about having to play in Albany as a 1 seed while the 3 seed Syracuse got to play a home game...

its like i am living in lala land. everytime i see his smug face, that is all that i remember. i cant believe its like no one recalls that. and the irony of them playing an away game vs a 9 seed. hahaahah

That’s funny and they had no chance of winning wherever the game was played but this place would burn to the ground if a number one seed Syracuse team had to play a three seed Oklahoma in, say, Tulsa.

yeah, I met Coach Cal in Hawaii after we lost to them in Hawaii. He couldn't have been nicer. Gives you an idea how much that means.

I couldn’t care less about Houston or Auburn but I find it egregious they would put the top seed on the road in round 2. How the heck do they let that happen. And they supposedly spend all this time combing over the bracket.

SU fans when our 2000 team as a 4 seed had to play 1 seed Michigan State in Auburn Hills: "this is an injustice and a travesty!"

SU fans when 1 seed Oklahoma had to play 3 seed SU in Albany: "suck it up, nerds!"

You’ve been reading my old posts or something.

I’m sorry, Sampson broke the rules—repeatedly. So did Miller and Wade and Self and the rest of them. It doesn’t matter one iota that the rules changed and you can now text or call players whenever you want or that players are now getting paid. These coaches broke the rules and gained an advantage that 80-90 percent of other coaches didn’t who were actually playing by the rules.

I can’t stand this excuse that I keep seeing out there about coaches committing infractions with actions that are now legal. The point is that vast majority of other coaches followed those rules and the rule breakers gained an unfair advantage over the other coaches they were recruiting against.

Fake news, right?

And then in 2005 we played an under-seeded Vermont team in Boston.

I believe Sampson was head of the coaches' ethics committee when he engaged in many code violations.

I also think he (along with K and JB) was critical of the Baylor assist coach who turned in a video of Dave Bliss trying to cover up a murder.

This from a dude who faces a home Final Four, if he can make it that far.
How is this analogous?
-The final 4 site is chosen years ahead of time.
-the committee has no discretion
-even then it’s a corporate atmosphere much more than a second round game in another teams backyard
-Houston is the #1 overall seed so if anyone deserves home court it would be them

As opposed to the committee having full discretion to not set up Auburn for a potential home game as early as round 2 as a 9 seed vs the overall 1. It’s asinine

Syracuse and Burlington, VT are actually pretty close to being equidistant from Worcester, but yes that definitely sucked.

SEC has all the money now and they decide what goes.

Is it just me or is Houston playing like they have never run an offensive set ? Why is 25 nowhere to be seen? He’s supposed to be a top 5 pick

Walker has TWO fg attempts !

Refs have taken over this game . Calling EVERYTHING
