No, this isn't happening, but just imagine if he was interested in transferring to SU. I know it is probably a violation of NCAA rules to talk to someone at another college, but this kid is unbelievable. If we were able to win faceoffs at the rate that he wins them we would be unstoppable. All I can say is WOW!!!!

He's only a sophomore. Have to think alot of top D-1 teams are going to put feelers out there this summer to see if he wants to transfer.

Not going to happen, he has a brother who is coming into the program next year and he apparently is a big fan of Pressler. Unless Pressler gets hired at a big time school he will likely finish his career at Bryant. Only potential way I see him transferring is if Bryant struggles next year and he wants one last shot at the tournament for his senior year.

I've never seen a team get schooled like on the Faceoff (I missed the Nova Game)...it was comical watching it in person. It was like a Varsity vs 7th-8th grade modified matchup. If Cuse had him they would be undefeated right now. I sure hope Desko is finding some HS kid out there to come in next year.

Apparently, Desko is blind to FOs being an issue. SU hasn't had a good FOGO guy in years. I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for Massa, I'm wondering if the rules committee won't be taking his "method" up for consideration. However, I don't think the men's committee meets until next summer. And, any changes would then take another year to take effect. So, he is probably going to be able to play out his career.

FWIW, they said he had a wrestling background, it's for sure he out toughed us at the X.

I wouldn't exactly say he's blind to FOs. He's recruited multiple FOGOs over the past few years but none of them have panned out for one reason or another. Off the top of my head

Brendan Conroy
Cal Paduda
Chris Daddio
Ricky Buhr
Gavin Jenkinson

He's also coached Chris Cercy (#1 all time at Cuse w/622 wins), Danny Brennan (#2 w/485 wins) and Chris Bickel (#3 w/437 wins).

Daddio was only the #1 FOGO recruit in the country several years ago (88% in HS).

The only Guy I thought SU should have been hot on years ago http://www.brownbears.com/sports/m-lacros/2012-13/bios/capone_tommy_j6c7

A Guy that has Played for and coached under Roy Simmons Jr/has 5 NC's Blind to FO's recruits ? :rolling:
So, what's your explanation? That he is simply unable to judge FO talent when he sees it? That could be it. Daddio has no other lacrosse skills. So, even if he does get it (rare), he can't get down the field or even get rid of the ball.

Let me remind you that it has been a looooong time since Brennan and the other guys were before him.

HS FOs very different then college. Especially with all the rule changes recently. We got guys who were highly thought of but like i said it didn't pan out for one reason or another. Also, can't discount wing play which is a huge part of winning percentage.

A couple quick things. Desko has not ignored or forgotten about faceoffs. Unfortunately what has happened is our recruiting efforts at the X have not panned out. Daddio and Buhr were top 5 faceoff specialists in high school and recruiting analysts were raving about Buhr. Needless to say Daddio has been mediocore at best and Buhr isnt even with the program. Desko tried to remedy the situation by brining in Paduda, Conroy and I believe one other this year but so far only Paduda has been a bright spot and even he isnt lighting the world on fire. Though I hold out some hope on Conroy if we can change his stance.

I believe there was a third person who was brought in who can faceoff, not sure if they are redshirting or I am mistaken. As far as next year, I am not sure if SU is bringing in anyone who can compete for the spot. I am fairly certain we are not bringing in a specialist who is currently committed, perhaps WoodyUK or someone else close to the program can comment on that. I wouldnt be surprised if Desko tried to find a late bloomer or an under the radar guy again this offseason like he did with Paduda.

Daddio and Paduda have better winning percentages than Capone.

Capone 82-186 .441
Daddio 109-236 .462
Paduda 36-74 .486

(Paduda obviously a much smaller sample size.)
Your right Paduda shouldn't count......, Capone a Jr/Wrestler Plus I said Years ago and he would have added to the mix

Exactly as Jeremycuse has stated, top flight guys didn't pan out. Not to mention Conor Penquigney (top 6 recruit last year) ended up at Towson after committing to SU and next years faceoff recruit Connor Russell from penfield could not get medically cleared due to multiple concussions. It is not from a lack of effort, it just hasn't happened with the guys they brought in. In addition, as stated many times the wing play is massive. Arguably our best faceoff guy in the last 20 years was Chris Cercy. He was mediocre as a freshman, decent as a sophomore (55-60% range) and awesome his last two years (70% range). That big jump coincided with the arrival of Sam Bassett, a GB machine. Pretty sure Bassett has some GB records at SU, a lot of that has to do with his stellar play on the wing.

Any insight as to potential replacements for Russell, was not aware of his concussion issues, his arrival certainly would have helped. Are we looking at anyone else? OCC?

Lets see Donahue /Rogers/Simmons 3rd/ The tree of Roy Simmons/Messere and 1000's of SU Lax players think Desko and his staff are not smart enough to see they are lacking at the FO Circle? They have over 100 years (Together) Rogers/Simmons /Donahue/Desko.Coaching experience. Are they just putting in their time for retirement? These Guys know what they're doing.......

One other thing to consider, teams normally bring in one faceoff guy and one goalie a year. When they don't pan out that year is a bust. With all the other positions there are multiple plays coming in, so if the top guy doesn't pan out, maybe the second or third guy will. Four years ago Joe Fazio was a top ten recruit. He has been a nice player and a good leader for the team. I don't think he has lived up to recruiting expectations, however Brian Megill was the 74th recruit in that class and will end up as multiple time All-American. Just an example.

All that said, our faceoff crew (not individual), Should be better than what we are witnessing.

Sorry to ask again but are you aware of any other incoming guys who can play the X? I checked laxpower but nothing jumps out at me. Did we redshirt someone this year or have anyone lined up to replace the recruit who could not get cleared medically?

I am not aware of any faceoff recruits. Unless you are RG Keenan, They normally don't draw attention like Evans, Staats, et al. I do not know if any of the current midfielders can also faceoff. Based on the results this year, I would not be suprised if that added a guy or two. I think they just keep throwing everything against the wall until they find something that sticks.

I am confused, are you stating they are not smart enough to know there is an issue or that they are putting in time waiting on retirement?

Nothing on the horizon as of now.
