You are what your numbers say you are. Can he improve, sure and I think he will eventually but right now, it's not good. He’s better than that. I’d rather he shoot than George or JJ. He will gain some confidence if he knocks a few down.
I think that's a critical point. Do you want a freshman like Kiyan to be extra aggressive? Normally, no. But we are missing our top scorer and our other guards have really struggled to be a consistent scoring threat - which in turn limits everyone else on the court. To my eye, Kiyan seems the most likely out of all of them to go out and score 15+ pts. We are going to have to take the good with the bad. With Freeman out and all the issues with Nait George and Starling, I'm fine with him looking to score
His one horrible turnover in the first half was bad, but his reaction after turning it over was worse. He watched and made ZERO effort to run the guy down. He should never have gotten back on the floor for the remainder of the game. It was one of the most blatant lack of effort I’ve ever seen.I think we're good with our current line up. Kiyan hasn't looked all that good aside from 4 games maybe. He will continue to improve, no doubt, but he has a lot of stuff he needs to improve on this level. George did a lot of good things tonight. I wish he was further along, but I think he will serve us well late season in the pg role.
You'd take Frosh Kiyan over Frosh Dion? On this team?Kiyan will be fine. We're all programmed to think that because his last name is Anthony he's going to be a superstar right out of the gate. He has all the raw skills to be an excellent 2-3 year player for us. He's already ahead of where say Dion Waiters was at this point in his freshman year.
I remember Dion being extremely rough around the edges and unreliable for much of his freshman year (similar to Warrick), and then obviously he just exploded his soph year and became a star. You'd take Frosh Kiyan over Frosh Dion? On this team?
Literally nobody thought that, except maybe you. We're all programmed to think that because his last name is Anthony he's going to be a superstar right out of the gate.
Dion wasn’t anything special his freshman year. He showed flashes. Kiyan has shown flashes.I like Kiyan and think he'll be crafty good, but his lack of athleticism is an issue. He's nowhere near as talented or good as Dion was his freshman year. Dion was the number four pick. IMO, Kiyan will be lucky to get drafted due to his athletic limitations.
I agree w/ a lot of this. Team composition plays a big role here. Dion was on a stacked team his freshman year (sophomore year too), and JB served him a big slice of humble pie, which was the best thing for Dion and he came to appreciate years later.Dion wasn’t anything special his freshman year. Dion’s exceptional trait was being built like a brick …house. Kiyan needs to bulk up a bit over the next couple years, but otherwise has enough athleticism and skill with the ball to make it, imo. Dion had excellent ballhandling and couldn’t be stopped with a full head of steam; he was never a ‘twitchy’ or ‘springy’ type athlete, though. If his vert was measured, it probably wouldn’t be anything eye catching; he used his craftiness and strength to beat defenders more so than speed or quickness (not to say he was below average in either).

People forget Dion was a disaster as a freshman and so was Fab Melo. Both were out of shape. They had two of the biggest freshman to sophomore jumps of anybody I can think of. Its not a fair competition because its early in the year and Kiyan's numbers are going to go down but right now I bet he averages close to double the points Waiters had as a freshman.

He wasn't the number 4 pick after his freshman year. Dion was way more athletic than Kiyan as a freshman. He improved a lot, but more importantly, matured a lot from freshman to sophomore year.I like Kiyan and think he'll be crafty good, but his lack of athleticism is an issue. Yep, he was picked fourth after his sophomore year and significant growth/maturity like you said. I think Kiyan can be very good but has a much lower ceiling than Dion and because of that won't be a lottery pick let alone picked fourth after next year IMO.He wasn't the number 4 pick after his freshman year. Fair enough. I dont like to put ceilings on 18 year olds, because they still have so much potential for development.Yep, he was picked fourth after his sophomore year and significant growth/maturity like you said.
