Since nobody else has said it (at least I don’t think), I will: what happened with Kiyan today? I understand Red said it was a coach’s decision, but the timing after Melo’s comment just seems interesting. I’m also aware that Kiyan hasn’t been good, but he’s still our leading scorer off of the bench.

If he didn’t think he was good enough, could have done this a while ago. This late in the season is strange.

I mentioned in the game thread…..he had his full warmups on the entire game. Almost as if he knew he wasn’t going to get in. And on top of that, he didn’t even come out to warmup before the 2nd half. Something seemed predetermined…..
He either knew or was making a statement on his own

Oh boy… liked by kiyananthony

We've got issues and it isn't too pleasant for a longtime Syracuse fan (when I was a teenager my neighbor would let us slide through the turnstiles gratis at Manley Field house without a ticket) to watch these games. But we'll be back. We have some great assets: the dome, our history and a conference we can get noticed in if we play well. Of course, now money plays a significant role so the ground has shifted.

I don't know if it's my untrained eye or what, but I watched 73 year-old Rick Pitino-led St. John's fiercely battle #2 Connecticut (22-1) yesterday. And what a battle it was. That game was played at such a high level of intensity. I don't know if I've seen that from the Orange this year. St. John's beat Connecticut at Madison Square Garden where we used to dominate and call our home away from home. It'll be curious to see if we can (as the Beatles would say) get back to where we once belonged.

Still think if we win that Houston game, everything is different.

Melo could have added a lot of weight to any discussion about canning Autry last year. In many of my posts near the end of last year, I expressed horror at what could happen if Kiyan was on the team and camp Melo realized that Red is completely incapable. It would be really unfortunate if a rift is created between Melo and the program.

If Melo stood up during the search process and said "Gerry is the guy, and I'm helping with NIL and marketing"...

I would still be pretty skeptical. But I could talk myself into being excited again.

The worst decision made was taking Kiyan out of the starting lineup immediately when JJ returned. You either let Kiyan lose the job or make JJ earn it back.
Freshmen all over the nation are dominating the game. Many physically look like freshmen. Why aren’t ours?

Nah, look at us after the Tennessee win, which wasn’t as big as Houston would have been but was pretty big, then we lose to Hofstra. this team with Red as coach was/is doomed

Still 3 losses going into that game. So at that point we are really 1-3 because our 4 games before that weren’t exactly against 96 kentucky

Eh, seemed like something someone spiteful would do. Play Zephyr early just to hammer the point home to Melo that we won't stand for 'SMH!'

Hurt people hurt.

That being said, Red seems to also have zero idea on who to sub, and when, and may just have forgotten to sub him in. He doesn't seem like a very good coach.

Who knows!

Agree

I love Melo, and it's true Autry is not a stellar coach, but 41% from the field, 23% from three-point land and Matador defense are not the statistics of a top 30 player. Perhaps the fault lies not in our coach but in our player. This should've been more of a storybook narrative with the prodigal son returning to Syracuse so to speak. Kiyan is too skinny and wouldn't have been able to hang with anyone in that St. John's Connecticut game yesterday. I do wish Kiyan the best wherever he finishes his career. Maybe he can resurrect himself But dad needs to tell him to look in the mirror.
Buddy Boehrim got the most out of his slow-twitch body. Great shooter, great court awareness, head in the game. Even the occasional assist. It ain't happening right now with Kiyan and I hope his dad is letting him know that some of his fault lies with him and his prep.

At the end of the day, he’s a bench player here this year. But too often, when he’s in, he’s dominated the ball like he’s a top scoring option. His rope, if anything, has been gracious.

Ideally, he’d have been shown the bench periodically when that occurred. It hasn’t happened…with anyone.

Total benching seems like an over reaction…and timed with Melo’s tweet…eh.

But can we be frank here? Melo’s tweet was absolute BS helicopter parenting. He can’t do that.
