Knicks like MCW and Southerland?

I really thought southerland had a shot in the nba a few weeks ago. He was sort of exposed in the ncaa's though. He basically was shut down by defenses that keyed on him. he cant get his shot off over anyone within three inches of his height. he is strictly catch and shoot and whose going to let him do that in the NBA when he poses no other threat?

I hear ya but it can work, look at james jones, novak, bonner, battier, Ryan anderson, the list goes on

I love James, but compare his shooting prowess to Hancock. As much as I dislike him for no good reason that kid was draining contested threes on a regular basis.

One advantage JS has is that in the NBA defenses would rarely "key on him" - as he would not be a top option on any team. He's the guy they kick it out to when the "star" or gets doubled. I'm still not sold on him making it, but if he found the right situation, he could latch on as a "specialist" role player off the bench.

Exactly he will never be keyed on in the NBA because he will be surounded by guys who can score and create on their own.

The Knicks recent history of player evaluation leaves much to be desired

You're telling me. I'm still scarred from the fact that for most if not all of the 00's, we could have had Marcus Camby AND Nene in the same frontcourt.

I'm not ashamed to admit I cried as a teenager on Draft day 2002 when the Knicks sent Camby to the Nuggets.

I hate saying it, but I agree with you on James' NBA potential. He has some athleticism, he's got length, he has a great shot, but to put it all together, he would need a decent handle and he hasn't proven that he has one.

I think there's a pipe dream that he could be a Novak-like player, but Novak is one of the best pure shooters of the past decade. Though James is a great shooter, I don't think he is an elite shooter which is what he'd need to be to make it with his current skill set.

All that considered, here's to hoping that he gets drafted and develops nicely.

The isiah era has been over for a while...under Grunwald they have one 1st (Shumpert) and a slew of players that were cut or not even in the league that they picked up (Lin, Novak, Copeland) I would say of late they have done very well. Especially considering how much some of the above mentioned have been leaned on due to injuries.

There's a lot of better shooters than James that are proven adequate defenders and can put the ball on the floor. I would love to see him on a roster next season but it just won't happen. I mean look at Nichols he was much better, still is much better, than James and he can't get a roster spot. Keep in mind James is 23 years old, not exactly a 19 year old with crazy potential. Unfortunately, I think what we saw from James this season is what he is as a finished basketball player. And I did not see anything close to an NBA player.

I remember a guy named Scotty Thurmond for Arkansas who was a much, much better player than James...also a long, lanky athlete who could shoot..and he did not make it in the NBA. Just dont see how James could..having said that..chris quin. so i really know nothing.

The only guy on that list that James might be a comparable shooter to is Battier, and while Battier isn't quite as good a defender as he used to be, he's still really good.

james i think will have a nice career overseas. he was a nice player for us with his ability to stretch the floor and find his spots on the floor. unless he reinvents himself to have a good handle i think he will struggle as he is just not consistant enough to be an nba specialist. With a handle though- anything is possible because he has ridiculous hops.

Right, Shane Battier was an all time college player, dude is a plus plus on the floor at all times. Novak is one of the best shooters on the planet.

MCW will be long gone when the Knicks draft & I can't see them taking James when they are stuck w Novak for two more years. The Knicks needs are:

1. Young PG who can be an understudy for Felton & Kidd & Priggs.

2. Biggest need might end up being a high scoring 2G, if they can't re-sign JR.

3. Bigs......

The NBA and college basketball are very different from one another in rules and style of play more so now than in any point in history IMO. I believe James game is better suited for the NBA than it was in college. That said I think his biggest issue at the next level will be mental and physical toughness. On the offensive end he will be able to spot up shoot at the NBA level (most of his 3s were from NBA range away) but if he is not guarding another 3pt shooter he will have to play more physical than shown.

Rautins is a better shooter, is a decent ball handler, and has a much higher basketball IQ then James... I actually see Andy making an NBA team next year while James will probably be overseas.
