Kofi Cockburn

It depends on what he is looking for. I hear you but there are lots of good coaches. If walks in and wants to be a leader, help a team win and move up the draft rankings then yeah it's a no brainer. If he wants to be the anything and everything for a team so he ensures that the NBA is looking at him as a first round pick, then he should follow Orlando to UK. I'm not saying you turn down the player, just if all he is doing is trying to find a better program to be his agent then it's possible the one year rental backfires. You always take the player of that caliber without question.. It certainly can work against you though.

He’s a dinosaur. He isn’t making the NBA. I also think his numbers and minutes are going to suffer if he goes to UK as he won’t get the minutes he expects.

I agree. Admitting that Cockburn would be an upgrade does not mean one dislikes Jesse or Frank. I like them both, a lot. But, Cockburn is a great college center. He would be an upgrade this year.

Agreed. Lots of rationalization to suggest otherwise.

Cockburn would be a massive upgrade, especially with what he brings to the table offensively. With him, we'd be a top 10 team.

And this is coming from the biggest Jesse proponent on the board. Huge fan of that kid's upside, talent, and athleticism.

Yeah I think there are semantics here that people feel are getting caught up in. No one is disagreeing with him being super talented and on paper what he does for our team in a hypothetical. There is a reason we recruited him hard for a while. In this case a rental can always backfire , but it's not a case you ever say no to. Ever.

He obviously wants to be in the NBA and needs a situation to feature him in great detail or be at say UK where just being a starter raises your draft stock. As noted - he just doesn't project well at the next level. 20 yrs ago dude is a lotto pick.

The hypothetical here is Kofi would come, Jesse plays very little and transfers. Maybe even Frank too and you hope you get Flip because otherwise you have zero size/depth to pair with the best class in years. Do you risk that for getting a rental with possible major plus side? Yeah every day. Just recognizing it can have a downside is all the other side of the coin points at.

Oh and then another 30 threads about bad roster management losing all our bigs next summer too lol

It would be fascinating to try to make that work. It definitely could work. If a shooter can't get free coming off a double screen from those mammoths, then there is an issue.
I suppose, but they must have knock down shooters which they didn't have last year.

Or Kofi would be a first or second team all-American big that the staff could actually use to recruit future bigs because one of our own was an all-American and shuts the narrative we don’t use our bigs offensively.
One of year Cockburn likely makes us a NC contender.
If we a NC contender then I am okay with losing a decent player who can’t wait.
When we have played guys marathon minutes who aren’t close to as dominant as Cockburn.

Cockburn will be a preseason first team all-American those don’t go on trees.

I’ll place a bet with you he ends up in the NBA.

I think he makes it also, but I don't think he will be as successful in this era as he would have been in the past.

Means absolutely nothing and its what all the cool kids do on social media but JG3 commented on Kofi's IG post about withdrawing from the draft. Just wanted to share so we can all freak out and imagine all the fun possibilities :)

I think that the only thing left to do is decide what number to give him. Frank is now officially a 4. Discuss...

Oh, and a good nickname. Maybe Joe Clap?

Give him #44 and tell him all the lucrative deals he's going to have with the scrap metal business/elephant and the dove and many others. Kofi burgers at Dinosaur BBQ and the Cockburn special at Paradise Found. So many opportunities here for this young man!

Sure. If he comes and we lose all our bigs with no replacement and I see a roster management complaint from you I'm bumping this bad boy..

And 100 pct for fun to bust your chops not to argue.

Ehhh he may make a roster lol. I doubt he ever sees significant time. The big thing is these bigs are dinosaurs at that level. No doubt you can win with them in college.

Of course they are, but almost every team has one of these dinosaurs, whether they play or not.

Very effective low post scorer in the college game. This kid also averaged 0.2 apg. On a team that scored 81 ppg, that's pretty crazy. If he got the ball, he was looking to score. Clearly he was effective at it, but wow.

he wants to feature his mid range shooting and passing for NBA scouts.

Is that something he could/would do at SU?
