Kris Curtis might be out

In the abstract sure everyplay could be a TD if the defense is unsound and you get a guy in a position with the ball that if he beats one guy he's gone sure. But that's not reality. Plenty of pass plays are designed to find the soft spot in a zone in order to get a first down or achieve a positive down and distance for the next play. If the defender slips and it goes for a TD, that's gravy. But it wasn't "designed" for a TD.

When the primary read on a pass play is a 12 year comeback, is that designed to go for a TD?

Run and Shoot is designed to score on every passing play. Pretty sure my high school coach said the same thing about every play designed to score. He was no Paul Brown.

I have never heard a coach say that. run and shoot sure has a lot of plays that are not more than 10- yds down the field so i dont know how that can be designed for a td.. you also dont know what the D will be doing.. if they are in a 3 deep other than throwing a deep pass what plays can be designed for a TD. the rest rely on the D messing up.

Curtis isn't as good as you guys think. Probably wasn't going to play this year. Robinson is much better then you guys think he is. many assume he isn't ready because he's local and didn't have a lot of offers. It's just not true, expect him and Trudo to be on the field.

And just how would you know this?

Run and Shoot has six basic pass plays with multiple options off those basic plays and if you make the right choice you score. We ran it in high school and we scored every time. Maybe not. That was a long time ago.
But it is an offense designed to match up against every possible defense and exploit it for a score on every play. And yes it depends on exploiting a D failure somewhere.

But we digress.

If Nick can get it done, that's great, and he would be ahead of schedule from what could reasonably have been expected. Fact is that the level of competition and coaching that he received is not comparable to other kids coming in. It's not a knock, just reality.

He's wasn't 100% last fall and missed time, and he was thrown in the deep end in the spring.

Word was from multiple sources was that Curtis was the best of the freshmen OL last year and might have played before being injured.

And I wouldn't expect your likely source(s) to be 100% objective. And that's not a knock either.

This is the funniest thing I saw on here in a while.

Foster and Kobena were true freshman last year. Chances are, they'd be more ready to contribute this year.

I expect Kobena to be a very good player this season for us.

I wonder if Foster will be a medical RS and have a chance at 6 years?

A VERY good source, that's how.
I hope you're right! Nick is a very good athlete and maybe that has allowed him to close the gap on others that grew-up in better FB playing regions of the country.

Yeah, I'm not sure why everyone has said they've seen nothing out of Kobena. I thought he showed good burst (straight=line I guess) returning kicks at times last season and he was a true frosh. I'm not sure what people thought he was going to show but I wouldn't rule out his becoming some sort of a factor for as at some point in his career, if not as soon as this season.

Well, Adam Harris in the flat almost certainly wasn't designed to be a touchdown.;)
As much as I'm not a fan of how we use our fullbacks, I actually would have liked to have seen more passes to them and rush attempts so that they have to be recognized as at least some threat to advance the ball.

I like using the fullback but I don't love using them all the time on 3rd-and-short and 4th-and-short. I love the idea of a fullback quick-hitter on first down from time to time. I also don't mind the FB in the flat, but I think you need an FB that can catch and turn and run and you need to call it at the right times against the right defenses. I'm not at all trying to knock Harris but he didn't look terribly dangerous with the ball.

You're preaching to the choir. I've been stumped that our modestly talented fullbacks have seen the field so much, but if they're going to be out there let's have them be something other than a 6th olineman.

Otherwise, if we want a 6th olineman, lets put a 6th olineman out there.

With the way our line has played maybe we should actually just put 8 OL out there. Or three. I'm not sure which way to go on that.

He played in 7 games as a true frosh in 2011. He can RS in 2012, and have 2013-2015 left.

I'm open to either.

What I heard is that Curtis could be more motivated.

He'd better get his a$$ motivated, then--because we need him to help offset Pugh's absence. Because right now, we're walking into the season with two unproven commodities at both OT positions.

I hope you are right about Nick Robinson--that would really help to bolster depth.

I guess I don't know, 12 years is a long time for a play to develop, especially given our O-line.;)

I like Robinson a lot and think he has a.ton of potential. But if both are healthy, Curtis would play over Robinson.
