Kris was PISSED at Dion at the end of the game

Good points in this thread.
Dion is a terrific finisher -- AND he will be better when he uses his teammates on the break to supplement what he does. I'd cut him some slack (those decisions are a lot easier to make with 20-20 hindsight), but there is a lesson there.
We have to rebound better. We got killed by Pitt's offensive rebounds. Pitt isn't all that good inside this year, they aren't tall, yet they just killed us.
We knew going in to the season that rebounding and 3 point shooting would be the issues -- they still are.

Kris should try giving half the effort Dion does. Joseph is a big part of our rebounding problems.
All well and good, but doesn't address what the OP said at all. And the OP was right.

Joseph should get over it. Do we really need to start counting the times he decides he's going to get his and picks up charges?

Waiters has been unbelievable in transition this year finishing, so he made a bad choice boohoo.

If we're talking about the bad flip layup attempt when you watch the replay KJo took a bad angle to trail and there was a defender there. At least Dion was trying to draw a foul.

KJo def was pissed, and it was b/c Waiters didn't pass the ball witha minute left. But how can ppl assume that was on waiters being selfish and not exactly what the coach (who was standing behind him) ordered him to do...?

And its convinient that nobody mentioned how waiters went up to KJO after and tapped him on the chest with a big smile to make sure everything was ok.

And I find it funny that yesterday ppl were praising DIon's attitude and posting tweets of how he is listening to the coach... and then today its all about him and he's reading the headlines, etc etc.

There is an awful lot of body language reading and jumping to conclusions from afar considering the Orange finally got a win over Pitt and improved to 20-0.

This is not the first game during which Waiters has shown tunnel vision taking the ball to the hoop. I don't see how Joseph or another teammate taking Waiters aside and advising him about looking for the open man is a big deal.

i agree...dion was standing right next to boeheim when that happened so jb might very well have told him to hold the ball.

on the break, dion should have dumped it to joseph who was trailing but he didn't - you'd like to see him make the pass but i sure wouldn't lose any sleep over it. it's only one play and dion's a pretty good team player this season.

dion held the ball on a break in the first half to and I think the trailer was Fair who didn't seem happy about that either but whatever. after Fair had his highlight dunk he could've cared less.

It isn't. Competitive juices are a good thing, KJ wants the ball, good for him.

Joseph did get out of his lane and take a bad angle; in live action, I was dumbfounded that Dion didn't pass. On replay, it looks like it would've been a difficult pass.

Still, a couple of the other points are valid - if this had been the first time Dion ignored a trailer in favor of a force, it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But he's been good for a couple of these per game for some time now. He's better than that; we don't want to leave any points out there.

You need your different personalities and styles. That's what makes this team great.

My son said that Dion should have given it up on that Play, I thought that the defender (on kris the Trailer) was in position to steal the Ball or foul KJ.
A matter of perspective.

There is no way Dion made the wrong decision there. That was a tough pass...as I recall Kris was coming from the left and Dion from the right (so it would have been an awkward pass with little angle). Dion made the right play (and got mugged).

Watching in 'real time' I was pretty ticked off that Dion didn't pass back to Kris, but when they showed the replay it did look like it would have been an extremely difficult pass, so I agree that Dion did the right thing on that break. I thought it was more that the Pitt defender made a really nice play than Kris took a bad angle.

KJo has never been a fan of going against physical teams. He really was not interested in mixing it up down low tonight...even moreso than usual. He likes others doing the dirty work, as he starts to run out on the break with the guards before we secure the board.

Syracuse, as a whole, doesn't like going against physical teams, or tough-nose-2009/10-Butler-like defenses. Cuse got eaten alive on the boards, and will struggle against the OSUs, KYs, FSUs come March, or any decent team who slows it down and protects the ball (and makes a FT now n then). Even on FTs, we struggled to box out and rebound. That's just unacceptable. That, and our ineptitude running any sort of half-court offense will cost us a Title.

Let's be real, Pitt sucks, were missing a key starter, and would've taken the game to the wire if not for the missed layups n FTs, not to mention, SU shot their wad at the line too. I would've thought of any game, being Big Monday, students back, ESPN, JB goin to for 4th place tie in wins, and a chance to annihilate a team that has handed it to us for years... and we DID start like we were going for the jugular, then played an average performance. A win is a win, but I expected more given the opponent.

Put me in the camp that thinks this is no big deal. Stuff like this happens every game.

But, while we're on the topic of fast-breaks and dump-offs, Triche had an excellent one that didn't result in points. I believe it was 2-on-2 with Dion behind him (first half) and Triche draws both defenders (I thought he might try an uber-aggressive circus shot) and dishes it off to DW. Unfortunately, someone came in and knocked it out of bounds before DW went up with it, but it was a heady, unselfish play nonetheless.

Scoop gave up a fast-break of his own and I'd be remiss to not mention that. The announcers really loved and appreciated it.

I think people are talking about different plays.

It's not about being a one-time thing; it's about how you play going forward. I think we've gotten to a point where Dion is spending too much time dribbling in the halfcourt offense and not moving the ball quickly to the open man.

We also see that he isn't willing to give up the ball on the break, and has started going one-on-two or three again. Not good habits. We could lose a big game because of this kind of lack of judgment.

We're not a good enough team offensively to ignore players who are open and not pass them the ball.

A couple games ago Dion has 7 assists. Last night, he only had 1 in 24 minutes. That's not good for the team.

I love how everyone here is like "looking at the replay, blah blah blah i would have done blah blah blah".

Everyone here does realize that this is in the middle of a fastbreak, running almost full speed. It requires very quick decisions, sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. Get over it.

What would people say if he instead, dished it over his right shoulder to KJo but because his angle Kris couldn't handle the pass? Give credit to the defender for making a tough play for our guys.

And that one was the biggest basket of the game.

"We've gotten to a point" and you're basing this off of 1 game? "We also see that he isn't willing to give up the ball on the break" I can show you many times this season he has dished the ball off on the break. Sometimes when you're driving it's better to take it strong then to make a circus pass behind you to a trailing guy and how do you know he even saw him?

I could care less about Kris getting his panties in a bunch over a fast break. If it hadn't been for Waiters on those outings when Kris puts up 0 to 7 points we would have losted several games. I just find it funny the thread is titled Kris is Pissed at Dion when Kris has played way under par this season for a Senior leader who is labeled the go to guy coming into the season. While Waiters has been awesome yet he still gets pop shots on message boards like poor Scoop does. People really need to start thanking the Philly cousins because without those two we wouldn't be a top 10 team this year, even with the deep bench. Claim what you may but before you bash ask your self this who do you want to take the last shot? If you say Joseph you are lying to yourself.

All the guards except Scoop were guilty of that last night. The zone befuddled them. Dion got the ball, stood there, then passed to Scoop up top and then worked it around to KJ who got the ball, stood there, then passed to Scoop up top. Same thing occurred when Triche was in the game.

Scoop was the only one who attacked with the screen to penetrate and go. He was the only guard playing worth a crap against the zone. And with Scoop penetrating so much, Dion didn't seem to attack off the dribble as much.

I think a lot of people are looking for reasons to see the Dion from last year and it brings up feelings when he isn't always unselfish. I would almost guarantee he is given a leash like KJ is to try and get his at times. I don't remember many forced shots besides the one break where he got hammered.

I have a different concern with Dion, and it seems to be he is hanging out on the perimeter more. He isn't dribble driving, which doesn't give him the opportunity for the assists. I want to see him attack zones and he seemed to sit back against both Providence and Pitt.
