Kyle McCord: Drafted by Eagles / Rd 6 Pk 181

Just happy that Kyle didn't go to Cleveland. That team has a very crowded QB room.

It's also where QBs go to die.

Happy he didn't end up there, as well.

What a mess in that QB room. They are still paying Deshaun Watson -- who's been a flop and who they mortgaged away several years worth of draft picks to acquire -- on a guaranteed contract. Even though it is restructured, they have a ton of $$$ that they still owe this guy. And he's injured, and slated to miss the entire year.

They also signed Pickett, who started in Pittsburgh and played for Philly last year. Overall, he hasn't lived up to the first round draft status, but is still young. He's gunning to prove that he is a viable starter, and a franchise QB.

Then, they brought in Joe Flacco. He's on the wrong side of 40, but was the comeback player of the year in Cleveland two years ago, and led them to the playoffs. Proven commodity, and maybe the "best" option, but a short time solution to their messy QB situation, at best.

Then the draft mess. The took Dillon Gabriel -- the QB from the college team that spent most of the year ranked #1 -- in the 4th round. He has some ability, but is flawed [small physical stature], but a winner who was successful at multiple colleges.

And to further muddy the waters, they then drafted Sanders in the fifth round, despite already drafting Gabriel, signing up for the off-field circus that comes along with him.

None of the players listed above are a sure thing, and the whole mixture seems dysfunctional, at best.

Factor in that they've started 42 different QBs since returning to the league in 1999 [and passing on Donovan McNabb to draft all time bust Tim Couch instead], and it just doesn't seem like an environment where any QB can be successful.

They probably just need to limp through this year, shed themselves eventually of the albatross that is the failed Deshaun Watson contract, and see what they have in Pickett and / or the rookie QBs.

And they'll probably still be looking for a franchise QB next season -- which is the most Cleveland Browns thing of all.

I’m thrilled to have my favorite college team’s QB get drafted by my favorite pro team!

Check out who was drafted with the picks involved on draft day to make it all happen… OG for Kyle.

I'm happy for the 'Cuse guys of course. But the draft process seems to get more inscrutable every year. Considering KM's body of work, to think he: 1) slipped to the 6th round after Shough (big arm but accuracy issues), Milroe (struggles with passes of all types) and a 5-10 guy from Oregon State; and 2) got traded in a package deal along with APR (one of the best pass rushers in the ACC) for OG, it's hard to process. I get that teams draft on best available for specific "needs". But they are so infatuated with "mobile" QB's that IMHO they overlooked one of the best pure passers in the draft. I can't wait until they see Kyle pick apart a defense and realize how stupid their evaluations were.

Fit wise, would have made perfect sense.

No idea why they waited until the 6th round, when they had numerous picks in earlier rounds.

Dumb.
Have to think at least 1 or 2 Steeler scouts were in the building when we played at Pitt. Maybe that was enough to take him off their board. Water. Bridge.

You sound like everyone I know in the state of Ohio that is not a Browns fan! I felt sorry for the fans when they moved to Baltimore as they have some of the most passionate fans in sports. But I went to college with too many Browns fans and have lived in Ohio for too long not to realize they for the most part a bunch of tools! I went to the Bengals game in Cleveland last year and it was a classic Browns game. Deshaun Watson started the game 15/17. Fans were starting to whisper "is he back?" "are we finally going to get something for that money?" "we could be good!" Then Deshaun goes down with an Achilles, DTR comes in and looks adequate, and then I go get another beer, come back and Jameis Winston is in because DTR got hurt.
I don't think there is any question the Browns are drafting a QB next year near the top of the draft.

The inverse used to be true when it was thought mobile guys couldn't pass well enough. Body of work is meaningless in the draft. It's about how they think skills will translate and then gambling how far they think a guy will fall so they can maximize value.

Kyle showed a bunch of NFL ready skills but not physical ability that jumps off the screen, and he also showed an occasional penchant for throwing it to the other team. 34/12 td/int ratio is ok but not elite, and scouts surely saw the same plays we did where a number of passes hit defenders squarely in the hands and were dropped. If he cleans that up he'll get his chance to make everyone forget where he was drafted.

That did not happen dude. I don’t recall him defenders in the hands then being dropped. You made that up

Ok. I'm not the only one that mentioned it during and after the season. Go back and watch the games. There were 2 or 3 where it happened.

This article / writer REALLY liked McCord [scroll down]:

Cool article.
Not great that every SU player drafted was, in his estimation, picked later than their talent warranted but still, nice to read.

BTW, he gave at least an ‘A-‘ to 22 of the 32 teams. Talk about an easy grader.

Just read an article that McCord was also prank called like sanders. Not that it matters. Just found it interesting. That kid is a loser

Not a chance man his ball placement is amazing

Never said he didn't but he also takes chances and sometimes got tunnel vision.

Post 3 of the above thread posted by one of the most respected posters on the board mentioned one. It took a 10 sec search to find it. I'm not looking up anymore to prove a point to someone that's wearing blinders.

Just because I'm objective does not mean I dislike McCord.
