Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

I’ve heard nothing but the opposite. That’s his eligibility has run out. But if I’m following the money here, I think the safest payday is seeking a 6th year.

NFL contracts aren’t guaranteed, and unlike others, I’m not convinced he’s going to get guaranteed $ in the NFL next year.

So it would not surprise me if we/he sought a waiver. It would not surprise me if it’s already been denied. It would not surprise me if he/we are seeking an appeal of some sort.

And it would not surprise me it’s currently a dead issue. Just don’t know.
He’s not seeking a 6th year, it would be a 5th. He appeared in 5 games his true freshman year.

There an equity argument that but for a late mop up appearance his freshman year this wouldn’t be an issue.

I don’t think it’s dead but I would agree with Jake that it’s climbing up an icy hill based on our track record with the NCAA. But then again there is a dude who has been playing for a decade so we will have to wait and see.
Do you have inside sources or are you just speculating

Again, Kyle is out of eligibility.

I believe he applied for the extra year when he first arrived at Syracuse in the spring.

I would assume, as none of us heard anything, that he was denied.

I know you guys want to make it true that Kyle will be back, but you’re beating a dead horse at this point
Agreed.

Even if he got another year, he'd have to want to use it. He doesn't. He wants to pursue his dream in the NFL and frankly, right now is the best time to do it. The QB class is the weakest it's going to be this year and his best shot at getting drafted is now.

Agreed. Between his strong year and a very weak qb draft, if someone is looking for a Brock Purdy type under the draft radar, he may be a great gamble

Could we pay him more next season than he would get as a late round or undrafted rookie?

With no insider info or any idea of what will happen, I will say that if Kyle was granted another year, it very well may be an intriguing option if Syracuse puts together a $1 million NIL package for him.

Allows him to improve his skill-set, become a millionaire before leaving college, then pursue his NFL dreams a year later having already become a very wealthy young man from playing football.

In the end, I want whatever's best for Kyle as he's already given us so much.

This was an SAT question.

A QB leaves OSU after 3 years and takes a flight to Syracuse to play QB and is there for one year but asks for an extra year because a Day in OSU is 4 losses to a Wolverine. How many years will that QB play for Syracuse?

Do we know when the decision would be made by the NCAA? I’d think with the portal being open they’d have to respond in a reasonable timeframe

I think Oldpinepoint is hinting that the QB he heard was, in fact, McCord.

Everyone always stops beating the horse once it dies. Who knows, maybe it's possible to beat a horse back to life. Like a wild version of CPR. I'm all for a good research project.

Kyle hadn’t played in four weeks since going into his fourth game against Indiana. He gets sent in, goes 4-8 for 17 yards with an INT.

This is why he is out of eligibility…. I will see Ryan Day in hell

You do realize that Kyle’s *friends* are saying things right?

I’m not sure if it is real or not but not sure why they would be stirring the pot if there wasn’t some smoke.

Not to mention Fran himself is stirring the pot. People who think Kyle won't get another year are stating it as a fact when it's really just their opinion.

Yeah it’s not like we are reaching. Fran said exactly that.

Kyle played in 5 games for OSU in 2021. The last game being a month after his last appearance. If he’d only played 4, he’d be eligible. The only game he had double digit attempts and completions was the Akron game. 2021 game stats below.

Even in his 2nd year - 2022 where he played in 7 games, he still only played very negligible spot time. He had even less passing attempts his sophomore year. The most passing attempts in any game was 7 and the most attempts in the remaining 6 games was 4 passing attempts with a total of 20 attempts total for the entire year.

It may all be a moot point but it’s sad how some players careers can be affected.
So what we’re saying here is Rutgers is to blame.

Just play him. What’s the ncaa gonna do about it. Let’s go all William Wallace braveheart and attack them at their own game. Who’s with me. Hold the line!
I am a descendant of someone that was there, so I...will offer you moral support.

Ryan Day is a moron. And what’s up with that fake too dark hair dye looking beard? He looks like a guy back in the 1970s wearing a (now) politically incorrect “bum” costume on Halloween

Assuming McCord does play in the Holiday bowl it's an opportunity for McCord to put some school records way out of reach. If he had a 500 yard game for example he would finish in the top 25 all-time in single season passing yardage.

Bananas.

I don't think "My Poopy-headed coach at Ohio State played me in too many games" is a legit reason for a waiver.

Stranger things have happened.
Stranger things...Didn't Justin Fields get to transfer to OSU with immediate eligibility because opponent fans called him a poopy head
