The whole family went to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl, and accidentally left Kevin Kyle behind.
Shenanigans ensue.

In a search for Kyle Fran winds up on a bus tour with John Candy.

I don't think "My Poopy-headed coach at Ohio State played me in too many games" is a legit reason for a waiver.

Stranger things have happened.

I think the legit argument is that he is a high NIL potential player and effectively, at no fault of his own, a short-sighted coach robbed him of a year of prime earning potential.

And I think that has pretty good footing for the legal route if he isn't granted the extra year.

20 years ago it wouldn't matter but this is such a different environment now with real-time financial consequences to decisions like this.

The critical thing is that he really didn't have a choice - if he insists on not going in it could have soured the relationship and maybe he gets perma benched. Who knows but he wasn't in a position of power to direct that decision properly to preserve his redshirt.

I like using multiple personalities...that wasn't Kyle, that was Bart McCord, his malevolent other half. The same Bart that showed up for the Pitt game.

We never had luck with anything to do with the NCAA so I don't know if I can allow myself to get excited about the possibility. When it comes to Syracuse dealing with NCAA I just expect the worst.

This one would make up for a lot of past harms they’ve done. If he gets that waiver, I’ll be making sure I put up a few hundred and hopefully whoever else can do the same does to entice him to stay

Purdy good? I am huge fan McCord, probably my second favorite Syracuse QB behind McNabb and i hope he has a long NFL career, but I don't think he is ready to be a NFL starter, especially a top 15 NFL starter. Hopefully I am wrong.

Compare him to Purdy coming out of college. Not the guy you saw play with a ton of weapons for the 49 er's. Kyle matches up well with that guy.

True but never underestimate the power of precedence. They deny McCord, they will have to in the near future if the same scenario arises for a high level NIL athlete.

This is the NCAA we’re talking about - different sets of rules depending on how powerful or valuable they feel a given program is.

Their precedence is screwing over less powerful programs and bowing down for more powerful programs.

I think Fran meant Kyle’s is second in command of the decision around the team behind only Fran himself.

I’ve heard nothing but the opposite. That’s his eligibility has run out. But if I’m following the money here, I think the safest payday is seeking a 6th year.

NFL contracts aren’t guaranteed, and unlike others, I’m not convinced he’s going to get guaranteed $ in the NFL next year.

So it would not surprise me if we/he sought a waiver. It would not surprise me if it’s already been denied. It would not surprise me if he/we are seeking an appeal of some sort.

And it would not surprise me it’s currently a dead issue. Just don’t know.

Kyle played in 5 games for OSU in 2021. The last game being a month after his last appearance. If he’d only played 4, he’d be eligible. The only game he had double digit attempts and completions was the Akron game. 2021 game stats below.

Even in his 2nd year - 2022 where he played in 7 games, he still only played very negligible spot time. He had even less passing attempts his sophomore year. The most passing attempts in any game was 7 and the most attempts in the remaining 6 games was 4 passing attempts with a total of 20 attempts total for the entire year.

It may all be a moot point but it’s sad how some players careers can be affected.

It's definitely a bit of a pipe dream for sure and if it doesn't happen I don't think it's some huge conspiracy theory of the NCAA vs Syracuse either. It's pretty cut and dry when you look at it but hey worth a shot

I’m not saying anything. (as usual ). Just showing how very little playing time he got his first 2 years. His first year why wasn’t he played in 4 games instead of 5 to preserve his eligibility? It certainly wasn’t to prepare him for more time his sophomore year. Rather sad don’t you think? If it doesn’t matter to Kyle to have the extra year, it doesn’t matter to me regardless. If it does matter to him then it’s sad. His choices may be limited because of it.

I found it. Tell the NCAA he is transferring back to OSU or Michigan or Alabama. They’ll approve the waiver in 30 seconds and then he can transfer back to Syracuse.

The info I presented about the school trying to get Kyle an extra year, Fran mentioned to a player about a week ago they are still waiting on the NCAA decision. So I don’t think not hearing anything automatically means it was denied already.
